American Inn, Independence

I stayed on a great rate discounted for medical personnel. I am a travel nurse working at a local hospital. Everything was okay at first,(I chose to overlook the cigarette burns in my blanket nastiness of the rug and difficulty controlling the h2o temp)all for a great rate. However, I accidentally booked 4 nights instead of 5. I was called in my room at 3pm and advised that I owed a day. I explained to the clerk that I am a day time sleeper who will be checking out for the week in two hours for one more 7p to 7a shift then a long drive home. I asked if I could pay that one more day in two hours when I check out. The rude hotel clerk told me I either had to leave immediately or walk to the desk immediately and pay. I walked across the lot in my pajamas, cutting into much needed sleep,to pay a hotel clerk who already had my credit-card number. According to her and the manager they were not capable of making a judgment call that I was not scheming to leave without paying. I was planning on using this hotel thru until the end of February but no discount is worth the rudeness and inflexibility of this staff. I have one thing to say to this staff. When your by grandma's bedside in the hospital and they say visiting hours are over, I will give you a pillow and blanket to spend the night. Its called common decency, look it up.

I felt like I was in a horror movie. Bugs, filth, broken furniture, rude staff that lies. WE were offered a discount because of the room being so bad, and when we were ready to check out the clerk told us no,wouldnt give her name or reciept back.

Was: Cloquet, MN last sat night, ground floor room, bugs, in bathroom, baby cockroaches even? front desk said rest assured!! Quit night guaranteed, who was she kidding... alarm went off at 4:45, then to top it off she gave me a 5:00am wake up call!!! I reminded her she promised I could sleep, having worked 2 peoples shifts for 7 days a week for 6 weeks, she said, oops sorry wrong room.. by then I was up, couldn't go back to sleep.. sad place to stay.. went home.

Found after check in that air conditioning did not function. Asked for maintenence to check it out and they sent an off duty Independence police officer up to check it. He verified that it did not work. Asked for anothe room and was told "we are full". Asked for refund and was told "we don't give refunds once you sign the paper at check in." Then asked for discount and still no go. Asked to go to another American Inn nearby and was told "we don't do transfers". The counter person said "there's nothing that I can do about it." Spoke to manager in the morning, Don White - he was rude and condescending, and called the Police on me when I demanded a refund! He said that the reason the AC did not work was because we had the selector knob set to HEAT. This not only contradicts what I relayed to him, but what his own Maintenance man had written... The AC/Heat unit did not even turn on, period. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!

This is what I paid $54.99 (plus an ungodly hotel tax) for. The rooms were run down and in general disrepair, the person working the front desk (he said he the company V.P. although I wouldn't expect an executive to act like that) acted like he didn't care one way or the other whether or not her got any business, the rooms smelled funny, and last but not least, loud music from the bar all night until it closed at 1:30. I can't believe that I paid almost $63 for a room they should've paid ME to stay in.

rude staff and management, dirty rooms they quote different prices

room didn't "feel" clean, sheets had old cig burns on them even though they were "clean", blanket too thin, pillows too flat, shower didn't work right and water kept going from too hot to too cold during entire shower. room smelled musty and rug was "gross" to walk on, paint was peeling, there were holes in walls, door didn't feel secure because of loose knob and no bolt. Outside the walkways were crumbling, The entire place was very outdated in style and entire place needs an overhaul. The only good thing about hotel was front desk clerk is a doll and I was sooooooooo tired I almost didn't care avout anything more than falling asleep.
