Gulf Hills Hotel & Conference Center, Ocean Springs

Just spent two nights there, May 19th and 20th. The staff treated us like family. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Pool area was beautiful. Loved the secluded feel of the place and water views from pool area. Room rate was very reasonable. Rooms were all non-smoking which is fabulous. It's secluded, yet near great shopping and restaurants. If you hate smoke filled, loud casino hotels or cookie cutter motels like Holiday Inn Express, etc., then this is your place. I saw the staff preparing for a wedding and interacting with the guests checking in for that event and all seemed happy and pleased. Can't wait to go back!

The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. I cannot say the same about the cleaning staff. There was a pamphlet on the floor in same place for three days and candy wrappers were on the bed after it was made up. Rudy's Grill was unsanitary, the lady who was cooking was also managing the money and never washed her hands or used gloves. She was also coughing over the food.

My daughter had her miraculous wedding reception at Gulf Hills last night--people had fun: decorated beautifully by Chez Charles Florist, delicious food prepared and served by F&B Catering, and great music by band Barbara & Co. Miraculous in that Manager Donna Brown, and Banquet person Becky somebody managed to not all of a sudden decide to change the date of the wedding, or forget my daughter and now son-in-law had a room, alter the contract AGAIN, and the latest...I just unpacked all our things we brought for the reception and was missing the champagne glasses my daughter bought and I'd given to Becky yesterday afternoon. I called Gulf Hills front dest (whos personnel by the way, this past wednesday, responded to my question of "When can my daughter and the bridesmaids check in on friday?" with, "Well someone's in there right now." WHAT?!?!) So the genious front desk staff person 2 hours ago asked me to describe the glasses--I did so and she said, "Oh, here they are, right here. We cleaned them and the gold ribbon bow's still on them." I said I'd come get them now (as I've learned not to trust these people). I drive 20 minutes and the front desk person says to me, "Oh, I called Donna (the manager) and she said you didn't bring glasses and these up here are ours. I would've called you but I didn't have your number." ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Just the end of an endless stream of lies and deceit by these people and yes, I have a long list that will be shared with the owner. The reception was miracle. If you value honesty, integrity, forthrightness, grace, and peace PLEASE DO NOT SCHEDULE YOUR EVENT HERE!!!!!!! They even gave my father a hard time about a late checkout this morning--he had to get up, get dressed (he's handicapped and this is hard for him), go to the lobby office and talk to 2 different people before he got a 1:00 checkout. The two other ocean springs hotels housing guests for this wedding did not have any problem with late checkout's by the way: Country Inn & Suites--very wonderful and Holiday Inn Express--also wonderful and Mary Jo, their room blocking coordinator was exceptionally helpful.

My daughter (age 20) and I (her mom) stayed here 3 nights while we were in the area preparing for a wedding.We enjoyed the hotel and grounds very much. We felt very safe and the staff was exceptionally helpful. This hotel definately has a more intimate and personal feel than a typical chain hotel. I kept thinking about Elvis staying there. It was a lovely place and the golf course was beautiful. Would definately stay there again.In fact, my other daughter who is getting married next spring, booked their honeymoon night there when she and her fiance saw the place!

My friend and I went a year after the hurriance hit we stay at the Gulf Hills Hotel we stay three days our church took our youth to youth camp in that area. We decided to go and stay at the Gulf Hills Hotel. The people were still trying to get there live back in order. This was the first hotel that I have ever stay at that I did not have to use my cleaning supplies. The room was super clean. The people at the hotel treated us like family. They even came to our hotel room to make sure everything meet out standards. My friend and I was sating in the big white rocking chairs talking when the manager of the hotel came out and let us look at the history album of the hotel and took the time to tell the story. Never got in the door. Rooms not ready when promised. No parking spaces to be found. Plenty of room for golf carts. If you don't play golf or drive golf carts, this is not the place for you. Can't walk around for the carts everywhere. There are very few eating places around. Not impressed.

The staff works hard to make you feel like family, and you do. I have never stayed at a Hotel that places so much emphasis on really caring for your every need. You are known, and greeted always by your name, which makes you feel special. The rooms are beautiful, comforatable, and impecably clean. The term "Southern Hospitality," holds true for Gulf Hills and we cannot wait to return.

What's not to like. The staff is friendly and helpful in every way. It's off the beaten path - you can actually see the stars at night. Friendly little bar and great hamburgers at the snack bar. I don't play golf, but the greens are beautiful. And, boys, keep the trees. If I ever relocate to the area, Ocean Springs folks will become my neighbors. MAA
