Worst Motel Experience of my Life
Being extremely tired from driving for hours I stopped at the Holiday Inn Meridian at 10:30 pm and booked a room in Nov. 05. I was told the price was $105, and it was the last room w/no micro or frig. I immediately went to bed planning to leave next day mid-morning. I noticed on the door, the posted room rate -- which was $95 so naturally I assumed the $110 included taxes.Posted on the wall was a guarantee that if I wasn't 100% satisfied, Holiday Inn would either fix the problem, or I wouldn't have to pay for that part of the stay. I awoke early-- about 5AM, very hungry, and decided to take a relaxing bath and then order breakfast from room service. Well, to my astonishment my room had no running water!!! I couldn't make coffee, brush my teeth, take a bath or shower, and could not even flush the toilet!!! In fact I had used the toilet during the night and now there was no water in the bowl. I immediately called room service and they informed me matter of factly that the entire motel had lost water service around 1 pm and they had no idea how long it would be before it was fixed - probably later in the afternoon. I then remembered their "guarantee" and stated that I felt very unsatisfied and would like to receive at least a partial refund. I was told to talk to the manager. The manager very coldly informed me that they were not giving any credit whatsoever for the water problem, as it was not their fault. I responded that it wasn't my fault either, but I had paid for a room that included running water and didn't get it, and they should honor their guarantee. He was unbelievably rude and ordered me out of his motel, in front of several other people. Being a woman traveling alone I was flabbergasted and humiliated. Also, they were price gouging everybody because the room rate on the door was $95 but I was charged $105 PLUS tax. The motel was full of Hurricane Katrina workers & displaced people from the Hurricane. I asked to return to the room so I could take a copy of the rates, and he refused to let me return. I left stating that I would never again stay at a Holiday Inn for the rest of my life. I reported this to the parent company and they sent me an apology and said they hoped the Meridian Holiday would do something, but nobody did anything to compensate me for this horrible, embarrassing experience.
