Wonderful experience
By Bea, 2/8/07
This was our first visit to the Colonial Inn. We were very pleased with the gracious atmosphere of the 150 year old building and grounds. You could just feel yourself transported to a different time when life was simpler and at a slower pace. Our room was equiped with a fireplace and on the chilly evenings in the fall, it was a welcome feature. While there, they were re-decorationg the rooms with new granite in the bathrooms, new bed coverings and draperies in the rooms. (it looked like the bedcoverings at the new Holiday Inn I had stayed at a few nights before.) Very nice. The grounds were very well maintained and great for an evening stroll. The owner and his staff were very personable and professional.I will most definately return to the Colonial Inn, it was a great experience!

Filthy
By lisa w, 1/24/07
Extremely old, filthy rooms. In desperate need of renovation. We've stayed twice now, and even though we love the neighborhood, we can't go back...It's just too gross, now. But owner and staff are pleasant.

DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
By MeghanM, 6/28/05
The previous poster it completely correct, this place is an utter dump! It is very rundown and shabby. It is a shame, since there are not a lot of other options for hotels in the area, you have to go to the next town over, or rent a home. This place is way over priced, and the owner is very rude and and full of himself. Obviously he didn't receive the proper management training or schooling in how guests should be treated! This motel is dirty and grimy, and no one seems to care. Next time I will go elsewhere, even if it is 20 minutes away. Why would I want to pay money to stay at this awful place, and put money in to the pocket of such a first rate jerk?!!

Travelers Beware!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/20/04
My husband, son and I stayed at the Colonial Inn in Harbor Springs, MI. ItÂ’s was one of the worst experiences and places that we've ever stayed at. The owner/manager Tim Brown has allowed this once beautiful place to turn into a real dump. We are experienced travelers but this really tested our patience. The rooms were not clean; the mini blinds did not work and were dusty. There were cobwebs on the lampshades; the old pedestal TV in our room was broken and very dusty. The walls in the bathroom had dirty smudges, the water pressure in the bathroom shower was terrible and went from cold to hot and hot to cold. The bath towels were thread bare and worn; there was no soap and no extra toilet paper. The complimentary breakfast consisted of stale store bought muffins and frozen concentrated orange juice. When we approached Mr. Brown regarding the situation he just blew us off, he had our money and was more interested in selling vacation time-shares. He further insulted us by name-dropping a wealthy family that stays there every summer and loves it. He also stated to us that the Colonial Inn is only open 12 weeks a year and maybe you would have been happier at a "Fairfield Inn." (In this case WE WOULD HAVE!) My husband and I are both hard working professionals who are lucky enough to travel and vacation at least 4 times a year; we did NOT appreciate his snobby and very condescending behavior. I can't believe that "Conde Nast" would allow him to keep using their recommendation that they gave this place over 20 years ago. CCONSIDER THIS DUMP A "NO RED STAR RATING", IF YOU VALUE YOUR VACATIONS, AVOID THIS DUMP AT ALL COST!!!!!
