Buyer beware. You get what you pay for.
By H, 9/23/10
Honestly, we stayed at the Lord Wakefield because it was the cheapest. It’s centrally located, near public transportation and it’s in a beautiful city. That’s it though. Let me tell you about our week there We arrived on a Monday afternoon and the first thing to hit you is the dank, musky odor of the carpeting on the first floor. It is a bad smell and the fresh flowers they have in the lobby, just makes it worse. We stayed on the second floor and the smell was light to tolerable. When turning down the bed the first night, I discovered stains that were either blood or some other bodily function fluid. I immediately called the front desk and was told nothing could be done until the morning because she didn’t have access to housekeeping. The bedspread stayed on the floor during the night and we checked the entire bed before we turned in. The next evening, after a day out, a cleaner bedspread was awaiting us. I think my complaint fell of deaf ears. Emergency exits are left unlocked. This is so the folks who live in the hotel don’t have to walk to the main entrance. Anyone can enter through these doors. There are families living in rooms there. I am far from a prude, but let’s just say there were some very unsavory characters hanging around. We triple locked our door at night and took our valuables with us on our day trips. Lastly, if you park in the handicapped spot just left of the main entrance, like we did, you will awake to find you car was parked under a tree full of starlings that left you hundreds of presents, all over your car. We will not go with the cheapest hotel next time. We will listen to reviews. We will not encourage anyone to stay there. The bodily fluid stained bedspread was deplorable.

Disappointing stay
By barbara, 10/2/07
Room was basic and comfortable. Reception staff were not welcoming or very helpful initially which was off-putting. No assistance to take heavy luggage upstairs to room left us with a negative first impression of our stay. This hotel is located in a business area and the restaurant was not suitable for family dining but the breakfast (included) was quite satisfactory.

definitely not home away from home
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/30/07
having read the other reviews, i'm thinking maybe those people were staying in a different hotel! the building, inside and out, are in need of serious upgrades, especially the bathrooms. there was always a musty smell throughout, but it was really bad in our room itself. what sort of brand-name hotel in the year 2007 does not have a small refrig/microwave in the room? true, it's location is ideal for day trips to boston/salem/lexington, concord and even to the plimoth plantation, but after long days sight-seeing and fighting city crowds, it would be nice to lay your head down in a room where you don't see ants crawling across the ceiling (yes, i did say ants on the ceiling)and then fall right into your bed, which, by the way, is pressed right up against the wall so you can't get out without disturbing your sleeping partner. the pool is located near the garbage storage area of the hotel, not a nice odor during the hot days of summer. the geese would be cute, if you didn't have to walk through all their droppings on the way to the pool. we were very very disappointed in this hotel, i'm sorry to say.

Clean & Convenient
By carolyns, 7/31/06
Hotel is in a great location to visiting areas around MA and other states. People are friendly and helpful in the town. The area itself seems quite family oriented and safe. The hotel is old, the lobby and hallways are not air conditioned and have a stray odor. The room was exceptionally clean and good in size, the bed on the other hand was rock hard. The sceneray behind the hotel is beatiful, there was candian geese and ducks on the lake.

A very good suburban hotel away from all the city hassles
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/19/06
It would have been much enjoyable with a fridge in the room. There was ample parking, friendly front desk staff, music in the reataurant/lounge, and very good and sightly view.
