Le Richelieu in the French Quarter, New Orleans

This hotel is very cozy and has a great location. We were there for three nights and were able to walk to every place we wanted to see. Meeting the Owner Mr Frank who's in his 80's made it that much more special with all of his stories. Paul McCartney lived in this hotel for a while back in the 70's! This is one of the best!

Great location and easy to walk around town. A big benefit is the free parking. Staff was very nice but I was disappointed coffee was not provided in the rooms. It is very quiet at night and the room was adequate with just a touch of old world charm. We tried the small cafe for breakfast but found the staff to be slow and not at all attentive. They seemed to be more interested in the locals stopping by then the guests in the hotel. I would stay again but opt for a balcony on the next visit.

We have always loved the location and have stayed many times at Le Richelieu over the past 20 years. Our last trip was for Mardi Gras. We went to bed early our first night there (my husband is recovering from lung cancer surgery) and were awakened about 10:30 by the room phone. It was someone at the front desk telling us that our window was open. I told him that I knew it because I had opened it since the air conditioning didn't work and the room was hot and stuffy. He hung up. We went back to sleep and were awakened AGAIN about 30 minutes later by someone banging on our door. It was a security guard who told us that our window was open. We told him that we knew it was since we had opened it. He said we had to close it due to security reasons and because it was raining. We were paying for the room and chose to open the window but were not allowed to keep it open. (We were on the 4th floor with no balcony, it was a tiny window and the rain was not coming in the window). I called the front desk to complain and was told that the owner had gone outside and seen the open window and was afraid it might rain in and ruin the carpet. I was told that someone would be sent up the next day to fix the heat/air conditioning. The following morning I stopped by the front desk to see when someone would be up to fix the air conditioning and was told this time that the owner had it set so only the fan would work and there was no way to fix the heat or air conditioning. We received no apologies for being disturbed or for the heat and air not working. We left a day early since my husband became ill but they would not refund our money for the night we didn't stay. I would not recommend this hotel at all!! It used to be wonderful but it has deteriorated in service and quality recently. Save your money and stay somewhere else

Spent two nights there, June 07, and there are no serious complaints from me. Free parking is the big plus because it cost $25 a day at the other hotels. There is also free wireless internet access. The hotel provides the log-in information. Definitely, the quiet side of town. Easy to get to from I-10 via the Esplanade. Our room overlooked the parking lot, and we had a little balcony to step out on. The ice box is all the way down by the pool. There isn't one on every floor. Room furniture is old.

I loved the old hotel feeling you should experience in New Orleans. The location was great being away from the main party streets, but not that far away neither. Easy access to the trolley and many good restaurants one block from the back of the hotel. French market was only 2 blocks down too. The only problem was when checking out, was the woman at the desk would not let us use the suitcase cart on our own, like we were allowed to use when we checked in. She didn't know how to bill my credit card properly neither. She was overbilling it and didn't understand why it was being denied. I had to spend time on my cell phone with my credit card company and then let her speak to them, so she was able to understand what she was doing wrong. Very small restaurant in this hotel. Overall though, I would stay here again for the location.

My family and I have been staying at this hotel for 25+ years and always enjoy it! Herman and the rest of the staff treats us well and always makes sure we are taken care of completely. From the Parlor Suites to the regular rooms, it's old New Orleans hospitality at it's finest! I highly recommend a stay at this fine establishment.

The overall design of the place was beautiful but inside the hotel it smelled of mildew. It was in a great location and the staff was friendly but the security personnel in the parking lot or at the main parking entrance were awful. Prepare to be furstrated.

We stayed here a few years ago during a convention and enjoyed the homey and relaxed feel to it. It is close to everything lively in the quarter yet in a quiet and pretty part. A real find. We will be staying there again in June for a return vacation. Free parking, but you dont need a car because you're close to it all.

This hotel is in a quiet spot in the Quarter. Its easy to walk to everything from here. Cool rooms, some with kitchens
