French Market Inn, New Orleans

Small rooms with very little place to unpack. GREAT LOCATION!!! We stayed in a courtyard room and street noise was very quiet. A couple of drunks, but nothing we didn't expect. They offer a free drink at close bar, but we only got it one day. Very limited choice (9 oz bud or bud light or well drink that was weak) but if you want the bud, it's ok.

I stayed at this hotel this past weekend, and was glad to find a place at a good price and that close to Jackson Square at the beginning of Jazzfest, however, positives ended there. Our room was right on their courtyard, which meant a lot of noise all night from other guests. This is too be expected, but the the staff also dragged garbage cans and carts across the cobblestones outside our door starting at 7am, which was even louder. Many hotels don't use fitted sheets, but this one uses ones on the bed that are so small, they come off the mattress just by pulling back the top sheet. By morning each day, my movement while sleeping meant that I was sleeping on a bare mattress (mine even had a nice cigarette burn next to my face.) Finally, they double-billed one of my traveling companions for his stay. They denied it when he asked about it on checkout and blamed Orbits, however, when he got home he was able to confirm that it was the hotel. Bottom line: If you're looking for a central location in the French Quarter to pass out for a few hours each night, this location is well placed and priced for it. If you are looking for a comfortable place to stay and enjoy an adult vacation, you're better off checking another location.

Where should I start? The first room that we were put in was so small it barely fit the two full size beds, The bathroom faucet constantly leaked a good bit, the carpet and bedspreads were filthy and disgusting and most of all the top latch for secure locking the door was broken! I walked straight back to the desk to request a better room and was moved as requested. Okay, after hauling all of our luggage to the second room it was a little bigger not much cleaner and when we arrived back later that night to shower the shower faucet was broken and only had scalding hot water so NO bathes for us!!!! I refused to move a third time so when we checked out i asked for a room credit and was offered a $9.00 credit. What a dissappoint the whole hotel experience was not to mention I had a small child with me and this was very, very, dissatisfying! NEVER AGAIN!

i stayed in this hotel on 3-5-10 to 3-6-10. I have to say that the hotel staff was very helpful with anything i needed which was good because i had never been to new orleans before. We i asked for directions they gave very good directions. Also my room was very clean and the beds were nice. There was no rodent problems. I did not see any roaches or rats like some of the other people stated in previous reviews. I would diffently stay at this hotel again if ever i was to return to new orleans. Also i was attending a concert that evening and the hotel staff stood outside for 20 minutes to get a cab for me and my guests since i did not know how to get to my location because i am not from new orleans. I couldn't believe this the gentleman stood outside and did not complain one time and was very encouraging when i was getting dissappointed because we could not find a taxi and said one will pass wait and see. I was four blocks from bourbon st and in walking distance of most times in the french quarter. My review of this hotel is four stars even though they are not rated as this. I mean it is not the plaza and if that is what you want then go there. The hotel was the best i have ever stayed at and i have been to a bunch.

The people at the front desk were very rude upon arrival. Their answer to everything we asked was "nope" or "sorry". I am claustrophobic and our room was a dark dungeon about 8 X 8 with an exposed brick wall, musty and damp, the a/c didn't work, no window, filthy bedspread that looked 100 years old. The one chair in our room was so stained that I was scared to sit on it. No towels in the room. They would not move us to another room w/a window because we booked through expedia. They said it was for paying guests. The front desk just didn't seem to care much about anything. There are lots of stairs there and the elevator didn't work. Lots of roaches and rats everywhere in the courtyard. I am sure you can find a better place to stay in New Orleans for the same price. Look elsewhere!!!

I prepaid when I booked through hotels.com, but was presented with a bill for an additional $100 + upon check out. At no point were we pre-warned that the parking amenity would cost us an additional $30, plus tax per day. Also, we were charged $4.95, plus tax for something called "communication access," even though we did not use the phones or internet. Rooms were small, kind of dingy. Not the kind of dirty that happens when the staff is neglectful, but the kind of dingy when the owner refuses to spend money to upkeep the property. There was a roach in the lobby, lightbulbs out in our room, and a shower faucet that screamed and pulled away from the wall each time we used it. Walking in my socks on the carpet left them black from the filth- as though I walked around the block in my socks. G R O S S! Next time, I'll find a hotel in the business/downtown area and walk the tiny downtown blocks to get to the French Quarter.

Well, I got this hotel on hotwire for $54 before taxes. My boyfriend and I usually don't go for the cheapo option, but in this case we did. After the name of the hotel was revealed after booking, I was nervous about the reviews. Thanks to the bad reviews, I had very low expectations. The hotel had a charming courtyard with a run down feel. The pool was empty and damaged. The receptionist was friendly but entertaining her friends while helping me. The room was small but serviceable. There was a flat panel TV mounted on the wall. The cable wires were hanging out under the TV with the converter in a haphazard and jury rigged way. The room had a charming chandelier and a nice beamed ceiling. The bathroom was updated and in good working order. There were many toothpaste drippings on the sink cabinet. The water pressure was strong. The furnishings were attractive. This room (#107) faced the street on the ground level. I could hear people talking as they walked by. I could also hear the neighbors in the next room talking the next morning. This hotel is a good value for the right price. I feel $68 with tax was ok and with that it was a great location. If I had to pay over $100 I think I would have been unhappy. It needs some investment for it to be a luxury hotel. As it stands, I might stay there again for the right rate.

If you require friendly desk help, courteous staff, or even a smile when you walk in, French Market isn't for you. Rudest people EVER. Good luck pulling the desk manager away from her cell phone; she talks to her friends more than customers.

THIS PLACE HAD RATS NO HOT WATER.THE PLACE HAS A GREAT LOCATION.FOR THE PRICE A PERSON CAN PAY 30 MORE DOLLARS , TO STAY IN A NICE HOTEL .

Oh, where to start? Was is the rude front desk manager, that when I asked if I would be able to check in an hour early he replied "well make it quick", or the breakneck winding stair case? Maybe it was the remote control for the TV that didn't work, but i guess that goes well with the phone that doesn't work either. I bet the phone is broke from people throwing it across the room from the look of the wallpaper that's peeling off all the walls. The parking price is ridiculous, with the thug, valet and the fact that its $25+tax....even though across the street its $20... Main reason I went with this hotel was because it was on Decatur, a main street in the French Quarter, but is in no way near the actual French Market which is 6 blocks away, there that's the nicest thing I could say.....I live in New Orleans and enjoy going to local French Quarter hotels for the experience, and boy was this place an experience...saying never gain to the Historic French Market Inn is an understatement
