Terrible Value - Beware Business Traveller
By Big LeBowlski, 2/6/08
For $190 an evening (discounted), this hotel is a terrible value. I was given a "European" room (ridiculously small) - the first of which was over the central venting area and looking directly across at windows staring into my room. To make matters worse they were painting the pool and the fumes filled the room. I requested and moved to another room that overlooked the street, less fumes but still some. The room itself was the tiniest I ever stayed in. The bed is only a full or double. There are not enough outlets to plug in your PC without disconnecting something else or having to move the TV and dresser. The bath only has a shower, no tub. No chair or desk is in the room. You have to sit on the bed, and move the coffee maker (which is also unplugged - if you want to use you have to unplug the lamp or the internet service)to place your PC on the small stand where it would sit. The staff is wonderful, but the accomodations are archaic and terrible value.

Ditry and Noisy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/10/08
Hotel is dirty, old, noisy. Hotel heating systems were making noise, and couldn't get any sleep. Hotel bathrooms were ditry and soaps were made in China. Small bathrooms with no room to move.

Excellent Customer Service and Care!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/19/07
I checked into the motel in the late afternoon and mentioned that I was on a get away that was all about me. :) The gal at the desk picked up on that and later sent me cookies and milk! The room was beautiful, comfortable, had a great view and was quiet, so I got a great night's rest! I will be going there for a retreat every year before school begins! Thanks much Hotel Savery! darci

Weekend break Awesome
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/7/07
Totally loved all of it. There was construction everywhere but yet we were able to locate the hotel easily. We were very close to the "happening" part of town and yet we could not hear a thing. The thing I loved the most was two bathrooms in one room it was awesome. Great time, very relaxing and Im looking to book again in a couple months.

LOVE IT!!!!
By RTsKSgirl, 3/18/07
I absolutely loved this hotel. We booked via priceline name your own price and paid only $50 a night. The room we were in was a Deluxe King. The room itself was decent-sized. There was a pull-out sofa and a nice chair and ottoman as well as a desk and coffee table. There were two decent sized bathrooms both with a tub and shower. The bed was incredible, extremely comfortable. We only had one complaint. There was not enough room to spread out our toiletries in the bathroom. One thing that it is important to know is that this is an all non-smoking hotel. Also, the hotel offers valet parking for $15 a day but we used the parking garage right across the street at 4th and Grand. It is free on weekends. There is a restaurant only about 2-3 blocks away (about 2nd and Court) called Spaghetti Works. I am not normally a fan of Italian style restaurants but it was very good and was a decent price. I would definitely stay here again.

awful
By corn, 8/15/06
I'm a business traveler and this is one of the worst hotels that I have stayed in as of late. I found urine on the toilet. The shower was very small. The closet had a big access hole in it that I could peer into some great unknown labyrinth. The water and shower from the room next door could be heard very loudly. There was an insanely loud (think jet engine) building air handling unit outside the window that literally gave me a headache (staff could not provide a resolution or even earplugs). The room was smaller for a double bed room. The valet parking was full when I arrived so the only parking left was in the public pay lot. I asked for a one hour later checkout and was denied (I'm two nights from Marriot Gold member!!!). All for a premium price. ...there has got to be a better option than this place in downtown Des Moines!

My Favorite Hotel!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/10/06
This Hotel is beautiful with fabulous service from hotel staff. The workout equipment is great with a variety of things to do. The only bad thing about the hotel is the parking, You can valet for $15 though.

Yuck
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/2/06
This hotel had major problems when we were there. The pool was being drained and cleaned of glass after an out-of-control party the night before, and the whirlpool was gross. (To be fair, they were shuttling guests to the Marriott to swim but that was not appealing to me.) Our room was nice, with two bathrooms, but the vents made a clanging/sloshing sound that was really loud. I asked to be transfered to another room. While I was waiting the desk clerk was obviously having similar problems with other guests (she was on the phone asking "Do you want us to send up some spray for that odor or just change rooms?"). Our next room had a crib in it and smelled like baby wipes. We pushed the crib out of the room and it remained in the hall all night. It had one bathroom without even a tub, just a shower with the paint peeling in it. Very disappointing. The carpets in the halls were stained and dirty. My companion bought some fruit in the restaurant the next morning and that too was below mediocre. On the plus side, the valet parking was cheap ($12) and the toiletries were nice.

Can't wait to visit again
By Nee, 5/16/05
That was my first visit to a Renaissance Hotel. I plan to stay at Renaissance in the future if I can find a location wherever I travel to. The staff was extremely pleasant making sure all of our needs were met. When we checked in our rooms weren't quite ready but the gentleman at guest services apologized and gave us some different options. The rooms were clean and comfortable. I really can't wait until I get another chance to visit. Thanks
