STAY AWAY!
By ,
The only thing I liked is that it had availability at 11PM when I was on the road with an infant screaming bloody murder. What did I dislike? EVERYTHING ELSE. The hotel was booked for a huge party until midnight so the first hour we heard thumping music from the parlor even though we were on the 4th floor in the corner. I will say after the party ended the night was very quiet. FITHY ROOM - Our "non-smoking" room smelled of old cigarette smoke, sweat, and God knows what else. The bathroom was inexcusably disgusting so we refused to even shower there. The toilet had recently been used for someone's #2 business and hadn't been cleaned. The carpet, lamp shades, comforters, and curtains were all very stained, old, dingy, and gross. The sheets on the bed looked almost like they had been slept in already (or used for an hour...). I didn't feel comfortable with my baby sleeping on the sheets so I placed one of our blankets down for the baby. The continental breakfast in the morning wasn't too bad to be honest. The service by one woman in particular was very gracious; however, we were disappointed to hear she had lost her job to a young woman who spoke no English. This poor American older woman who should have been retired happily by now was still doing her job wonderfully, cheerfully, and dutifully despite losing her job to an illegal citizen who couldn't understand me when I aksed where the hot water was for the oatmeal. Basically, it was a move of desperation for my husband and I to sleep at this place and for that reason only we didn't walk right back out when we saw the condition of the room.

Just Simply Don't Come Here.
By ,
Hotel is in very very bad area. Has potential to be nice but staff is unbeleivably rude and unconcerned about anything but putting in their 8 hours. Went to breakfast at 8:45 on July 4th which is one of the busiest days in hotel industry. Girls in front of me simply asked if there was more food coming out. Which was my question too. There was no food there. Not roll, muffin or even fruit. Decided coffee was good even. (What hotel doesn't have coffee in the rooms in 2011). Then listened to the girls be cursed out by the employee working the conitinental. Then she yelled at the front desk that the two woman where harassing her. Said it was their fault that they were late for breakfast. Again 8:45 is not late in my book when it's open 'til 9:00. Thought that was bad then listened to the same woman chew out a 7 year old girl because she simply wanted a waffle. She told her to eat the one someone burned in the waffle maker earlier. I have done the same job at a hotel in my home town. To make waffle mix you simply mix it with water. But that was too much trouble for her to go to. Just no reason to treat paying customers that way. She must forget without guests she won't have a job. Don't bother calling the desk for anything they never answer home, the simpliest of question of question you ask is just too much trouble for them to deal with. And just so you know how bad the neighborhood is the first day here wittnessed a shooting 4 blocks away. To the owners all I can say is you should come and stay at your own hotel like undercover boss. I think most of the staff would be out of work. With a little work your hotel has potential even in this neighborhood. But dump the staff and start over.

nice stay
By ,
It's an old property but very clean and secure. Affordable prices for new and sexixting guests. Front Desk very helpful and always smiling. While I was a guest in this hotel I was listening to another guest complaining about the room but I can honestly say that all rooms are clean. I strongly recommend this hotel.

Won't Be Going Back - Pretty Awful.
By ,
1-24-11 Okay, be afraid. This was a huge, run-down hotel that made me want to wear one of those full-body hazmat suits. And being armed with a taser might not hurt either. I don’t even know where to start. The most noticeable aspects were doors missing trim, a bustling long-term rental clientele, and bugs – both dead and alive – in the bathroom. Our room was across from the ice machine – which was missing the bottom grate and leaking all over – so we got to enjoy that noise on and off all night. I was shocked to see people walking down the grimy halls in their bare feet. I was glad we were still full from our lunch at Gino’s because I really didn’t want to leave our room. The couple of times I did (to get hot water for tea) I could smell cigar smoke throughout the hallway. As it got closer to our room, I wanted to complain, but I also wanted to live to see morning. There was an incredibly diverse cultural mix, some of whom were friendly, some who weren’t. I believe the people to our right included an elderly woman and her son because I could hear him yelling to her like she was hard of hearing. This hotel was inexpensive and allowed our dog but it’s not for the faint of heart, that’s for certain!

Don't stay here
By ,
This hotel was not in a great part of town. Hammond has a horrible stench to it.The hotel parking lot was a few feet away from the main road. It was called the Quality Inn, and the first thing we noticed was most of the lights on the letters of the sign were burned out. We walked in and the hotel concierges were flirting and fraternizing with some guy at the front desk. They were very friendly and helpful, but as soon as we checked in they continued carrying on. On the walk to the room, the hallway carpets were very dirty. The ice machine was broken and had towels all over it oversoaked with all the water. We got in our room, and it looked nice and clean, but when we went to lock the door, the swing arm lock was missing. We looked through the courtesy hotel book and it was filled with drug, violence, and gang graffiti drawings on each page. We booked this hotel for the reason that they had a shuttle that went to the casino, as we were there to see Bill Cosby, and when we asked about it, we found out that it wasn't a shuttle, it was just some 'driver' who took you in his car to the place, but he didn't make trips after 10pm. Our showtime was 9pm. It was rediculous. Then the next morning we went to the continental breakfast, and the attendant was verbally berating these children for making too many waffles, telling them she knows they won't eat all those and they can't have anymore. We weren't impressed at all. Also, the free WiFi was non-existant in our room. We couldn't even detect a signal.

TOTAL DUMP
By ,
reserved a room for NOVEMBER 2nd.walked in lobby it seemed nice enough, got up stairs it was a different story. the hallways were dim & seemed like the government housing projects. One word (GHETTO!) went in the room all the appliances were unplugged guess they were saving on electric! the wires were hanging out of the heater & when we went to leave our door wouldn't lock it looked as if it had been kicked in. needless to say we left in a hurry & went to the RAMADA. it was wonderful & worth the extra money. nothing QUALITY about the quality inn! i guess u get what u pay for.

Glad we stayed there!!!!
By ,
I had to be in Chicago for a 3 day IRS Nationwide Tax Forum - and the room in Chicago was $198 a night plus $48 a night to park (our bargain price)!!! I would have had to raise my tax preparation rates to pay that!! We knew there were 3 casinos in the Hammond /Gary area that my husband could go to during the long days I was at the Forum. We had been dissapointed with the condition of the Majestic Star hotel the last time we stayed there and looked for a new place that he could drive me to downtown Chicago each morning & pick me up each night (about a 35-40 minute drive). After reading the negative reviews, we were VERY apprehensive about this facility. I called and talked with some employees about my concerns and I felt they were honestly addressed. Even though, we did not make a reservation - we decided to go there - ask to see what would be our room - and then make the decision. We have no complaints. The staff was wonderful, our room was clean and comfortable, the location was great for us, the breakfast was better than we anticipated, there were nearby reasonable restaurants, and the price was an exceptional value for what we received! It is an older facility - everything was clean - but if you cannot tolerate a little reality (a few scrapes in paint, maybe a chip in plaster, and maybe a stain in the carpet) - this may not be the place for you. I really appreciated the computer in the lounge so I could access my e-mail. A few maintenance issues came up while we were there (such as the electronic key door opener at the back door all of a sudden did not work) and each time the maintenance staff was promptly dispatched and took care of the problem. The area the facility is located in is not very attractive - however there is a park by a small lake about a mile north that has a nice walking path, childrens play area, and picnic tables. about a mile to the south is a Walgreens. There is an assortment of other businesses in between. And there is easy access highways. We had a great stay and look forward to returning there when we need to be in that area again.
