The only redeeming factor of this hotel is its location and the nice door man. I am BEYOND disappointed in my stay at Affinia Chicago and I would never recommend this hotel. My boyfriend booked a stay-cation for my birthday this past weekend at Affinia Chicago. It was my first stay-cation and I was ecstatic. We stayed Saturday July 3rd through Tuesday July 5th. Upon arrival were greeted by the friendly door man and made our way to our room on the 14th floor. The suite was cute, nothing to write home about. I'd say the comfy bed was the highlight of the room. Here's where the trouble began. I started to write in detail what made my stay at Affinia Chicago so horrible but I had to stop when the summary turned into a short novel. Instead, I will list what happened. Sunday July 3rd - My Birthday 1. No ice machines. Called the front desk for ice, waited an hour before it arrived and by that time we were leaving for the night. 2. The elevators are painfully slow. 3. That evening attempted to go to C-View. The outdoor deck was closed even though it was early on a holiday weekend. The inside portion of the bar was dark and dingy so we left right away. 4. My boyfriend had arranged to have rose petals on the bed as part of my bday surprise. We returned to our room and there were no roses to be had. The kicker? He had already been charged for it. Monday - July 4th 1. Before leaving for the day I put my presents, cards and my bday dinner champagne cork (signed by all my friends) proudly on display on the desk. I returned later that day to find all of my gifts and cards haphazardly shoved into a pile on the corner of the desk by the cleaning staff. What was even worse was that they threw away my signed champagne cork. I was so unbelievably crushed. Oh but the empty Starbucks cup on the coffee table? That was still there. 2. Our towels were fraying and shedding all over us and our clothing. 3. That evening we had a few drinks at C-View outside on the roof and the service was horrible. They were slow and kept on getting our orders wrong. Not to mention everything was extremely overpriced. 4. The Grand Finale: My boyfriend had talked to the front desk about how the flowers he had arranged for the night prior were never delivered despite him being charged. The front desk promised it would be fixed that night. The flowers were never delivered. What a truly disappointing experience. It put a damper on my whole birthday.

The room was absolutely gorgeous, and was very clean. The staff was extra helpful with every need that we had, and I would definitely stay there again when we come back to Chicago. They were always happy to bring up extra towels, or exchange one of the pillows that were provided in the room with one of their six different styles of pillows that they offered complimentary. Plus, I'm a sucker for free in-room robes to wear for a few days. :-) However, there were a few of the little things that prevent me from giving this 5 stars: 1. Only two elevators go to rooms on floors 8-29, and they are a step above service elevator speed (aka not very fast at all) Not only that, but because there is a rooftop bar on the 29th floor, we had to compete with bar patrons heading to the top. We actually had to wait in line for about 10 minutes to get to our room on the 17th floor! Just something to watch out for. 2. Honestly, no ice machines on any of the floors? We had to call the front desk to bring us up some, and, while they were more than helpful with that, the fact that we can't go get it ourselves was something that I didn't care for. 3. The mini fridge in the room doubled as a mini bar. We had to actually take some of the drinks out of the fridge to put some of our own food and drinks in there. Why couldn't only a certain number of items be put in there by the hotel, not the whole thing? While these might bother me, they might not be as big for any of you out there. Regardless, the room was extra nice and the staff works very hard to keep you happy. With a great location on the corner of Superior and St. Clair and right next to Gino's East, the value is unbeatable!

The renovation of this hotel is fantastic. Fairly large comfortable rooms, gorgeous bathrooms, Aveda toiletries. They took everything into consideration. Just walking in the front door, you feel as if you are walking into a spa. Restaurant is not fully open yet, but the bar is great for unwinding.

This hotel has been completely renovated since my stay a year ago. The restaurant is not complete, but everything else is top quality and gorgeous.

I booked the Affinia at the suggestion of a friend. Looking at the web site, it appeared to be a charming hotel. This proved to be quite the opposite. Now, I have spent the better part of the last twenty years traveling around, and with the exception of a few third world countries, this has got to be the worst. From the moment we walked in, you could see the place was not clean or well maintained. The carpet throughout the hotel was filthy and badly stained. The carpet in our room was worse. It was infested with ants. I have never felt compelled to wear my shoes in a room before, but in this place I had no choice. The carpet was that dirty. The bathroom was badly mildewed. Nice black mold around the edges of the tile. When I went to the front desk to voice my concerns about the bugs, I was handed a can of Raid. No joke. My wife and I were absolutely appalled. I cannot believe I had to spray my room for bugs. In the morning, I went to make coffee, and found the countertop by the sink area covered in sticky stuff. I looked at the coffee cups, and they were greasy and had a considerable amount of lipstick on them. And don't get me going on the white stains on the couch. Who knows what kind of bodily fluids ended up on it? Just walking around the hotel, you could see that the culture of the staff was poor. You can see there is a total lack of pride in this place. For that, I blame the managment. Smears and stains on the walls, filthy elevators, empty drink glasses in the bar sitting on tables etc. Normally in any decent hotel, you can see staff cleaning and shining up the place. Not here. The only nice thing I have to say about this place is the bed was amazingly comfortable. My rating, zero stars.

We had 2 suites and both were spacious, nicely furnished, and came with small refrigerators - perfect for the left-overs from the generous portions we enjoyed almost everywhere we went. The beds were wonderfully comfortable too. And the staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. It is convenient to the John Hancock Building, Rosebud on Rush, and all of the Magnificent Mile shopping. Apparently the hotel's name has changed a couple of times recently, so it is helpful to memorize its address and remember it used to be called the Fitzpatrick when dealing with cab drivers - none of ours knew where it was when I would say to take us to the Affinia. Neither the interior nor the views I saw would make your jaw drop, but then neither would the prices. If you like your accomodations ornate, this may not be the place for you. Personally I liked the furnishings and decor which had a homey, comfortable feel. When we go back to Chicago, this is where we plan to stay.

This is a beautiful, quaint gem of a hotel tucked away just off Michigan Avenue. In fact, the lobby feels more like an inn, especially when the front desk staff greets you with authentic Irish accents! Our room was unique by hotel standards -- huge, actually -- spacious and elegant. Aside from the very stiff valet parking charge, our stay was without blemish and highly recommended.

I am the pickiest person when it comes to hotels and the FitzPatrick wins my vote everytime we go to Chicago. The rooms are lush and wonderful, especially the suites. Wonderfully decorated and quick room service. The Breakfast Buffet is great if you get up early. If you won't make it until the last half hour though skip it. Ask the conceirge for a breakfast place and they will point you a couple blocks down to this awesome breakfast diner joint. The location of this hotel can not be beat. It is a shoppers sanctuary. The Miracle Mile is less than 200 feet from the front door. Put on your walking shoes, and head for the stores! Also, the downstairs bar can't be beat for quick lunch and wonderful nightcaps.

this was a great hotel to stay at, especially with children. It was close walking distance (2-3 blocks) from all the action. I loved the quaint "neighborhood" fell it had, yet was very service oriented. The staff was very friendly.
