Sweden House Lodge, Rockford

The price was the only good thing. when i got to the hotel they first tried to tell me that i was going to be charged for three rooms because i changed my arrival date 3x, they said that i should have canceled the reservation then made another. I told them on the website it gives you the option to modify your reservation so i did just that and on top of that they started speaking in spanish which i thought was very rude. once that was cleared up i went to the room it had a funny smell and the towels were dirty. I would've left if there were any other hotels with openings every hotel was booked for the wrestling tournament that was in town, which i was attending, luckily i brought towels with me i sprayed the room down and we had to make due. the following morning we were going downstairs for the so-called continental breakfast which was only orange juice and coffee. After being gone the whole day we return that night and opened the door to be hit with the smell of mildew, or like it was something rotting in the room, it was terrible. i had paid for the room until the next day but this was unbearable so we left. I dont see how this place is still open it needs to be shut down

The receptionist was friendly. The reception area was stinky. That should have given us a clue. The room smelled of mustiness. Towels linen & were very dingy & yellow. The mattress was so hard; my spouse thought about sleeping on the floor; but the floor was stinky & filthy. The breakfast is a joke. The coffee was good , but it wasn't hot. The soap fell apart when I opened the package. On the positive side, the place has a nice setup. They just need to close the place down for a few weeks, do a thorough cleaning of everything including carpeting &heat/airconditiong units, do upgrades on some things, purchase new mattresses, pillows, towels & linens. Add some fresh fruit, yogurt & 100% juices to the continental breakfast bar. Possibly an evening Happy Hour. These changes would make a huge difference. Otherwise, I wouldn't stay there again ever.

For the past twenty years, I have always stayed at the Sweden House when visiting family in Rockford. Things have changed, but the cleanliness and the service of this lodging has not. It may not have the luster or name of some of the chain hotels, being older, but it is a place where they make you feel that you are at home. I would not hesitate to recommend this to a business traveler or to a family on vacation.

My husband and I visit family in Rockford and typically stayed at the Sweden House Lodge, however, this time around our experience was even more unique as the hotel has been completely renovated and the current management has restored its physical condition. Great place with excellent service. Will definitely go back again.

Well lets start out by saying that I was one full week without heat in the stuga apt. In the biggest snow storm of the year about 12 inches of snow. Not to mention that the snow was not shoveled either. Oh yeh, also should throw in here that it was warmer outside than it was in the apt. I literally walked through the snow to get to my vehicle every day before I left for work. I was staying here locally just for work,for around 8 months prior to this incedent. My job requires traveling for long periods of time. So the next time I travel to Rockford I will not stay in this facilty again. Up until this happened I was treated fairly well.

I stayed here on business for 9 months and their house keeping and management skills were terrible. The maids didnt come weekly to clean and the management was nonresponsive to our requests. When the heat broke it took a week to fix in 30 degree weather. These are only a few of the things that went wrong.

Also very secure and lots of extra stuff like a pool and the internet. The breakfast is not worth eating. I would stay there again.

We blocked 20 rooms at this place for a wedding. Not one reservation was correct. They didn't put reservations against the block. They wanted to charge $30.00 more for paying cash. It's not very clean. They had guarnateed reservations which meant nothing. The front desk people seemed as though they had no concept of what a hotel does. I have never seen anything like it. We (my family) left after seeing our room. Dirty walls, carpet, their was mildew around the tub. It was disgusting. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone ever. It's a shame too, years ago before the current owners it was a great place.

I booked a guest and her two children in a kitchenette suite for a week. Their suite price was one of the highest in Rockford and it was convenient to her work location. It was a horrendous mistake. The facility is dirty and not secure, the washing machines didn't work and weren't repaired despite bringing it to the attention of management, the air conditioning system didn't work, management was unresponsive. Within the limits of their authority the staff was helpful, unfortunately the management was not nearly as service oriented as the staff. I run a business in Rockford and will never book a guest there as long as the current management is in place, the facility fails to be made secure and clean, and there is a lack of service orientation.
