lost and found
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/15/06
My son had forgotten his gameboy plugged in in one of the outlet Sunday and I remembered there were some employees in that room and there's no way they didn't see the gameboy. So I called the hotel and I was transferred to security but it was answering machine so I left a message saying to call me back right away and if it was turned in. I didn't get a call back. The next day I called again and the front desk lady said she'll leave a note for the security person to call me back. No call again!I get a call 3 days later and of course he said no gameboy was found and no employee turned in anything. I was really disappointed in their service and lack of honesty.

Needs Assistance
By mary, 08/04/06
The hotel was fairly clean and location was great, but the service desk and no manager on site caused us much difficulty. Also our room had no a/c in 90 degree weather and no towel.

Home away from home
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/13/06
I stayed in June of 2006. It's an old building but when I checked-in and got inside. The hotel facilities were clean and homey. Staff were so friendly and extends extra mile in all our needs. Lobby area is decent and enjoyed our complimentary coffee at the lobby while I was checking on my e-mail. Great place! I will definitely come back for my next trip.

Worst Hotel I ever stayed at
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/01/06
NO SECURITY!!!! I was traveling alone and quite frankly I did not feel safe. A majority of the staff do not speak or understand english. People roaming the halls at all hours of the night. They put me in a room near the elevator (which has not been inspected since 2001) and it was extremely noisy since everyone stood outside my door to wait on the elevator. The first room they gave me the headboard fell off the wall when I sat on the bed. When they changed my room the key did not work and I needed to go down to the lobby a dozen times to get the key so it would work. The sheets and towels were suppose to be clean (at least I think they were) but very thin and grayish in color (I guess they don't have bleach). I would not take off my shoes to walk on the rug. Cleanliness was not one of their prioities. I asked them to schedule a cab for me for airport pickup and I was told to call for one myself even though they seemed to be parked out front. I would advise everyone to go elsewhere and get a better room for $125.00 per night.

Clean and Friendly Hotel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/24/06
When I first got into the hotel it already gave me a friendly and homey atmosphere. Front Desk were courteous and my room was clean and perfect for my weekend break. I tried to use my in-house movie it was not working, but the hotel staff came in right away to fix the problem. I tried room service and the food was great and was delivered on time. I will try it again for my spring break vacation.

not as bad as some have said
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/11/06
While this is certainly not a 5-Star hotel, the price is certainly very reasonable. Our accomodations were perfectly acceptable, the staff was responsive and friendly, we *did* have enough towels, the bed was comfortable enough, and the room was clean. We also found that service in the ETC's casual dining establishment to be fast enough that our one hour lunch break was very easily accomodated. The hot tub was therapeutic as well.

Believe the Bad Reviews
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/11/05
Made my reservation 3 months in advance to attend a college function. I read the bad reviews so confirmed my weekend reservation by phone on Monday prior. Arrived - and no reservation. While talking to the clerk another couple, who used a different online reservation service, complained about the same problem. Another lady came by the desk complaining that they had reserved two rooms, but were only booked for one. One other person had a complaint about the condition of the bed in her room. All of this in the 30 minutes it took me to cancel my credit card charge and get out!!!! Believe the bad reviews.

THis place is great
By d, 10/06/05
What a great hotel and value! This place is perfectly located on the North side, clean and the staff is great. They have a great bar and the restaraunt food is really good. Did not see any evidence of past complaints but they did say new managment took over in September. Would highly recommend.

A great little gem
By eric, 10/05/05
The Purple Hotel was a great find in Chicago. I was a little concerned reading some other reviews but when we got there is was like a breath of fresh air. The location was great, the staff friendly and the facility clean if not brand new. We travel to Chicago often and have paid over $150 for similar hotels in the area. I was told that new managment have taken over in July and the changes have been great. Give the Purple Hotel a try you will not be dissappointed. PS The entire lobby is a internet hotspot. No trouble connecting with my laptop.
