Marion Illinois' Not-So-Good Inn
When we arrived Thanksgiving weekend 2007, the desk clerk could not find our room reservation. He finally found it written on a Post-it note. When we entered the room, it was not a non-smoking room as requested. When we entered a new room, it was severely short of towels. In the morning, I returned to the front office for more towels and the continental breakfast. The morning clerk met me with disdain and rudeness.
Here's the kicker. A month later when I received my credit card statement, I noticed that the hotel had charged me more for the Thanksgiving stay than we had originally agreed upon, PLUS two more equivilent charges in December, days when we were safely back in our hometown.
Upon contacting the manager about the issue, he said he would check into the issue but never called me back. Four days later, I sent my father who lives in Marion to chat with the manager. My father received a good cussin' and threats to have him physically removed from the premises by the police. Unfortunately for him, my father knows the Marion chief of police. :)
It wasn't until we wrote letters to the corporate offices, Marion Chamber of Commerce and the local tourism bureau that the manager reluctantly moved into action. I finally received a credit to my credit card but still $20 short of what it should have been. I'm calling the hotel to politely inform them of their shortage. Gee, I wonder what sort of reception I'll receive.
