Just what we were looking for
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/02/09
For our trip to Hawaii, we wanted a place that was close to the beach and had some sort of kitchen so we could at least make breakfast rather than eat out. We didn't want to be paying 5 star prices. The Waikiki Banyan looked perfect from what we could read from their website and other Internet reviews. Is it new? Nope Is it 5 star? Nope Is it showing its age? Absolutely That said, our room 2212 in Tower 2 had a decent view of the ocean, a queen bed and a hide-a-bed sofa, dishes to feed 6. Everything was clean. The furniture was worn - couch cushions had to be flipped the right way or worn through patches showed and the sliding bathroom door needed aligning - it couldn't be closed completely. The mattress on the queen bed was very firm - at home, I use a medium soft pillow top mattress so I noticed the difference but my wife didn't - we both slept well - something about full days in Hawaii leaving you ready to sleep I guess. We had great service from all the staff - cleaning, counter staff, at the coffee shop - everywhere. But then we didn't ask for much so were likely easy to accomodate. Overall, I would strongly recommend this hotel. Its a very good mid-level hotel with in-room kitchens. It was clean, it was quiet, it was close to everything. We would definitely stay there again.

Nice room. Great views.
By JL G, 08/15/08
My husband and I and our two teenage boys stayed in room 3213 for two nights in August 2008. We had a great view of Diamond Head, Koko Head, Kapiolani Park and the ocean on the lanai side, and an even better ocean view from the small kitchen window. We enjoyed watching the surfers from the kitchen. The room was similar to a large one bedroom apartment. It was clean, quiet and had no bugs. It's pretty high up, so those with a fear of heights may want to avoid looking down. We enjoyed being able to close a sliding door and have a separate bedroom. The kids used the pullout sofa and a rollaway in the living room. The laundry room was next door, which was convenient and wasn't a noise problem. The beach is an easy 5 minute walk away. In Waikiki, oceanviews don't necessarily mean beachfront. The service was simply excellent.

Good Hotel
By ret47, 02/04/08
It was pleasant and convenient to everything. The tour desk was very helpful and we arranged out island hopping events at the desk. Nothing fancy but good service and a nice room.

First time in Hawaii
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/07/07
Did not know what to expect when we arrived. We expected to have to pay for a cot, the front desk agent says no need for one as you have plenty of room. Sure enough we had 2 doubles, and sofa bed. Rooms were dated but clean. Close to beach, bus stop right out front. Would stay there again. In fact my wife and her mother are going this coming February.

Good value for families
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/03/07
Found out that each room are individually owned and only managed by ResortQuest. Most owners live outside of Hawaii which is why some rooms are decorated in the 1970s style while others are more updated. Resort Quest make repairs when needed but cannot update furniture etc, without the owner's consent. I was told that they will be forcing the owners to comply but only time will tell. I hope ResortQuest can get all of the units up to the same level then the ratings would be similar - rather than all over the board. All in all, this was an ok place to stay and a good value for the money.

Motel 6 is better
By Mat, 09/24/07
Two bedrooms means 1 bedroom and a pull out sofa. Restrooms are old, tiny, dirty. Queen size beds means full size and very hard. Carpet is dirty and old. No bar or restaurant at the swimming pool. Hotel is 2 blocks from the beach. There are coin operated bbq grills.

Annual trip to our oasis
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/09/07
The complex is amazing! 1 easy block to the ocean, pool, laundry and PARKING! (you know how tough it is in Waikiki for your car) Been coming annually for 6 years and have never had a problem, sub-standard units or difficulties. LOVE IT!

expectations not reached
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/24/07
Did not like the cockroaches.Need to keep the bug off the beds. The view from the hotel was good when you enter the hotel room in the night you see roaches. It's not what we want to see or live with.

Look ELSEWHERE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/05/07
We stayed at the Banyan this past May and it was awful from the moment we checked in to the time we checked out. We had reserved four rooms and only one room was ready on time. The remaining three rooms had us waiting in the lobby for over an hour an a half , then to be given the wrong room! I had asked for a King Size bed and was given a room with twin beds. I was then "Accomodated" by having staff place twin beds together, would of been great except the twin beds were of different HEIGHTS! No way I could of had my toddler sleep that way! The bed sheets were literally falling apart, although I must say the Kitchen was very clean. Unfortunately, it took for ever for the elevator to get to your floor. We were in the 21st floor and we usually had to wait an average of 5minutes for elevator to get us down! In addition, the room next to us was getting some type of work done, so we heard hammering and drills as early as 8am! The pool was nice, and luckily we had no rodents in 3 of the 4 rooms. Hotel definitely not a 3 star hotel, but more like one star!
