Beautiful location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/05/09
My husband and I stayed at Turtle Bay for three weeks in November. We had a 5th floor room with an absolutely beautiful view of the ocean, pools, palm trees, and mountains. The lobby of the hotel is the most beautiful I've ever seen, with sweeping views of the ocean. Walking around the grounds was such a pleasure. Turtle Bay is more low-key and quieter than the hotels in Waikiki. The hotel restaurants are overpriced and the food wasn't worth the price. ($42 per person for an unimpressive buffet dinner). Even though we paid for parking, we had to scramble for a parking spot every night, especially on the weekends when non-guests visited the resort for various reasons. There is valet service, but we chose to park our own rental car. We felt safe walking in the well-lit parking lot at night. The Internet service (which we also paid for) was practically non-existent--1/2 minute on, 1/2 minute off, constantly. Don't expect to upload your pictures on the Internet at Turtle Bay. The resort is clean, the rooms are clean and spacious, the beds are very clean, and the mattresses and pillows are very, very comfortable. The closets are large. We had a room with two queen-sized beds. I highly recommend Turtle Bay for a wedding. The wedding chapel is beautiful and faces the ocean. One more note: Kahuku can be very, very windy much of the time, and the temperature is a lot cooler than Waikiki Beach. For really good food, go to Ted's Bakery on Kam Highway in Sunset Beach. For souveniers, go to the Aloha Flea Market in Aiea.

Nice view wouldn't go back
By vavi, 07/11/09
I definetly agree with the review that says the rooms are a little run down for a luxury hotel. I was also upset about this for a day or two I spent extra money to have a luxurious adventure the marriott would have been better. The beach is beautiful but the beach all around the hotel has a lot of rocks so it's not very good for swimming. Very nice pools though with slides they had arcades and nice restaurants. When we checked in they wanted to hold $450 for 10 days or we had to deposit 100 in cash. Long drive from the airport but nice view most of the way there. I had an average time but would not stay there again. The villa's seemed really nice though but if you are just staying in a room I wouldn't recommend it.

Stay out of your room
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/09/09
The rooms were run down and not updated to a typical luxury hotel standard. It took a while to get over it and enjoy the beauty outside of the room. The beaches and trails were miles long. The view was incredible as you woke up to a brilliant sunrise. My husband enjoyed the golf courses which were in good condition and almost had a hole in one. Ate quite a bit at the Palm Terrace and at the pool. Went to the Waikiki Beach and ate at the Hula Grill before going to the resort. As a family, we were there for only four days so one day we went to the Polynesian Culture Center and one day went to the Waimea falls (wear bathing suit!) and Haleiwa for shaved ice and Mexican food. The other days were for golf and relaxing around the beach and pool. We probably could have used another two days to go to the spa, horseback riding and the Dole plantation.

Not Good for Romance. Too Many Unsupervised Kids
By TX Aggie Lady, 04/16/09
I sent a letter to the manager on my return. He replied immediately. He stated that people liked the green walls and they were going to upgrade the roms. He also stated he would train his employees to supervise the kids. The fruit flies come standard with breakfast. This is the meat of the letter I sent him. The items for improvement. The walls were a sick green color which was not pleasant, the carpet had tears in it and it appeared that furniture was lacking or missing. In other words it would have been nice to have something other than the floor to put our suitcases on. There was only one suitcase stand in the closet but we had two bags. We liked the in-room fridge. We had problems with the wireless internet. My husband had issues with the head of your IT department but he said the IT technician was very nice…his boss wasn’t. There needs to be more clarity on setting the internet up with the business office for in-room internet service. The staff was very friendly and we really liked Joe Pack and most of the guys at the golf shop. However, we were a little put off because we booked two rounds of golf for ourselves on-line and decided to play a third round. The young man who booked us a tee time for the third round should have informed us that booking at the shop were going to cost 30% more than booking on-line. Had we known that we would have booked the third round on line from our room. My husband tried to show him our receipt from the previous day to show what we paid but he didn’t seem to care (he was the same fellow when we checked in that booked the reservation at the shop). The older Hawaiian lady (Janet?) at the beach stand was awesome and friendly. She was the nicest person of everyone at the hotel. She made us feel welcome. I would add that the buffet for breakfast was OK for food selection (one day the bread was stale and the lychee type fruit was not cut open). I had to get the omelet chef to cut some open for me. There were too many flies at the fruit table. The unsupervised children running up and down while we were eating as well as crying babies made breakfast buffet an unpleasant event each morning. In fact I was dismayed at the number of children playing on the elevators and running up and down the halls of the hotel and in the lobby. On one occasion a naked baby was running at the pool level with no parent in site. I did not understand why hotel staff did not intervene and notify the parents that this behavior is unacceptable. The towel kids just sat around while this unsupervised baby is running around. It is very unacceptable for the amount of money people are paying. When I brought this whole problem of the noise / lack of supervision problem to their attention, the front desk staff shrugged it off. I figure it will take a missing or a drowned child on-site until the hotel realizes that unsupervised children in the hotel is something the staff needs to address with the parents. In fact we stayed at the Hilton Hawaiian Village for the third time the four days prior to Turtle Bay. We have also stayed at the Marriott in Waikiki. There are kids at both places but they were much better behaved as the families were much smaller. We paid $143/night at the Hilton and I think it was a much better room with nicer amenities at a much better value than your hotell. We were in Hawaii for our 20th anniversary as a romantic holiday. The Hilton made us feel like we were there for our 20th anniversary and it was quieter. Because of the large number of unsupervised children running around and the yelling and crying in the restaurant and lobby and hallways, Turtle Bay was not the romantic place as pictured in the brochures. In fact this hotel reminded me of Disneyland.

True Hawaii - Perfect place to vacation
By Joe, 01/10/09
Everything about Turtle Bay resort was perfect. Beautiful view from our room, lots of things to do and enjoy. Nice little towns to visit without having to deal with the crowd or traffic from Honolulu. Horseback riding, helicopter tours, surfing, tennis, golf, diving.....all available at the resort. Lots of open beach to enjoy and private as well. Doesnt get any better then Turtle Bay. My wife and I honeymooned here in 06. 2nd trip to Hawaii....1st trip we stayed in Honolulu in 05. Too crowded. Turtle bay was perfect in our eyes. We cant wait to go back

Overpriced! Ridiculous resort fee!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/08/08
Even though I had prepaid through hotels.com they added a $20 per day resort fee to my bill. They said it was for tennis, internet access, and parking. We did not play tennis or use the internet and we had only one car but both rooms were charged the $20 per day fee. The food at Leilei restaurant was poor and way overpriced. Ola restuarant which is on the property but not run by Turtle Bay was good food at a reasonable price for a resort. The room was great, the view was great, the pool was OK, the bay was nice and quiet for swimming, and the snorkeling about 15 minutes away at Shark's Cove was wonderful. Our maid left a delicious macaroon on our bed. I guess I paid $20 for the macaroon. It is a wonderful resort but I just think it is overpriced. Jim

CHECK YOUR RESERVATIONS
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/29/08
WE WENT HERE AND THE HOTEL STAFF INFORMED US EVERYTHING WAS OKAY AND PAID FOR THROUGH OUR ONLINE TRAVEL COMPANY THEY EVEN HAD OUR INTINERARY AND INFO FROM THE COMPANY AND WHEN WE LEFT THEY TOLD US THE SAME THING. TURNS OUT THEY HAD NO IDEA WHAT THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT AND THE ONLINE COMPANY DID NOT PAY FOR IT. THEY CALLED US 3 DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS 3MONTHS AFTER OUR STAY ASKING FOR THE MONEY. I THINK IT COULD HAVE BEEN HANDLE DURING OUR 10 DAY STAY OR AT LEAST SOMETIME SHORTLY THERE AFTER. SIDE NOTE HOUSEKEEPING WALKED IN ON US MORE THAN ONE OCCASION. NICE HOTEL PROBABLY WOULD NOT GO BACK THOUGH BECAUSE OF THE WAY MANAGEMENT TREATED US.
