7 Years visiting Maui Vista
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/27/07
There are three buildings, each has a pool and tennis courts. I have stayed there for seven years during the month of February and it is the best value for only $100-$110 per night. I book through Maui Suncoast Realty and they have one and two bedroom units, some with ocean views and some with mountain views. See you Feb 2008 if you decide to come!!

Would highly NOT recommend it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/3/07
The room we got assigned to was not worth the money we had to pay for it. It was very outdated - I was under the impression that renovations had taken place in 2001. The stove was ancient and the switches were so worn out that we couldn't tell how high/low we had the stove on. It didn't work consistently either - it would work one day and not the next, the tub facet leaked, the security on the door wasn't adeqaute, the cleanliness of the wall/doors/closet/floor was questionable.... overall condition of the unit was very poor and poorly kept. Our flight arrived after the office closed, which would have been fine if the 1-800 number we were given was correct. We heard some people really liked their units...guess it is a gamble and we definitely lost - big time. We don't know about the rest of you, but we like to know what we paid for...and we definitely did not get what we paid for.

Cheap but beware
When I made this reservation I was not told the office is open from 9a-3pm (local). Our plane didnt arrive until after 5pm. When we got to the hotel we were horrified to find the office closed. We came across some folks in the parking lot that stated there were workers "up there". We circled and circled and couldn't find anybody. We then found an 800 number to call. We called and were given a 'code' to enter to get a room key. The next shock came when we found out there is no daily room/maid service. I believe its thursday and monday. The water pressure was awesome though. The a/c was a puny wall unit that ran 24/7 and couldn't keep up. Our bedroom had slatted windows. The kind that crank open and slightly close. Well needless to say every ounce of noise from the outside comes in... to include the next door neighbors night time activities to the birds waking up at the crack of dawn. Overall, not too bad of a room, but not knowing the limited hours and lack of maid service was troubling. Definitely one of those you get what you pay for...

Couldn't Breathe!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/19/05
Pros: Friendly staff, large rooms, convenient location, great price! Cons: When booking our reservation, we clearly requested a non-smoking room. Upon check in, when we double-checked on the non-smoking status of the room, the front desk clerk asked us to give him back our room key. He then told us that our room would be ready in about 20 minutes. As soon as we entered our room, we were hit with an extremely potent dose of air freshener mixed with strong tobacco smoke. All the windows were shut tight, so the effect felt like a fumigation was occuring. It was so strong even a smoker may have balked. We were told that there were no other rooms available. We opened all windows and the glass door and informed the staff that we would have to let the room air out for a few hours. We had to take our luggage back to our car because the room was not secure with the glass door open. When we returned, the room still smelled unpleasant, but not as toxic as it smelled upon our initial entry. The entire room had an unclean smell, look, and feel to it. We are not snobs and often stay in modestly priced accommodations. We understand that you get what you pay for, but the overspraying of the air freshener and the lack of cleaning gave the room the creepy feel of a seedy roadside truckstop motel. Never been to one of those, but that's what I imagine! We were told that the room was supposed to be non-smoking, but that they couldn't control every guest's actions. Fair enough, but we would have appreciated and respected honesty at the front desk. If they had explained that there had been smoking in our room, we could have waited a few hours while they aired out our room, perhaps with a few of those industrial fans. They could have cleaned it too! It would have spared us from having to lug our bags and from having to breathe the very strong toxic smell. The staff members were pleasant and apologized for our inconvenience, but management was unresponsive and unapologetic to our VERY POLITE post-stay phone calls. We had planned to spend a lot of our vacation relaxing in our room. Instead, we spent most of our vaction sightseeing to avoid the room... We did see more of Maui than we've ever seen before!!! Maui was BEAUTIFUL as always!!!

Inconsistent, but can be OK
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/15/04
The ratings I used may not apply to the Maui Vista "resort" itself, as we rent directly from an owner who lives in their unit part of the year so they keep it in good condition. With a direct rental, we have almost no contact with the front desk and pay a lower price than people who bought a vacation package or went through a resort company or management company. We also rent for a month which keeps our per day rate down. Maui Vista is a good "value" condo but you do take a chance on getting a nice unit. If you like to cook out, the barbecue grills on the ground are spotless and well maintained. Walt, one of the maintenance men is friendly and helpful. You can be on Kam 1(nice beach/nice views)in a leisurely 5-6 minute walk and there is a little bakery with great cinnamon rolls just down the street. It is quieter in West Maui but you pay more to stay there.

Marc Maui Vista
By fred, 3/8/04
One of our primary requirements for a room near the beach on Maui is air conditioning. We've tried doing without it the past, but between the heat and the noise flowing in from the open windows, we found it almost impossible to sleep.

Months before our trip, we book an air-conditioned room at the Maui Vista Resort. When we arrived, we found that the primary air conditioner did not work. According to the note attached to it, a second air conditioner located in the bedroom was intentionally disabled. At the desk, we were informed that it is Marc's policy to have all bedroom air conditioners disabled (this is not documented on their website or anywhere else). We were, however, permitted to use the phone in the room to make other arrangements. After two phone calls, the phone battery went dead. Other than poor maintenance, a worn out phone, and a badly stained carpet, we weren't in the room long enough to adequately review it.
