Horrible experience - staff stold items from me!
By ,
The worst part wasn't that this hotel is a total dump, but the customer service is the worst I have ever encountered. The staff is not only un-professional, but rude. After a wonderful stay in a fabulous resort in Kaanapali, my 84-year old mother fell and was taken to the hospital up the street from the Maui Beach Hotel. The hospital social worker was kind enough to suggest this hotel, which was close to the hospital. I was not sure how many nights I would need the hotel, but from the hospital, called each day before 11:00 a.m. (their check-out deadline) to reserve the room for another night. By late in the evening, each night when returning to the hotel, I learned that my room was no longer available and I would have to relocate. This happened 3 times! Each time the hotel front-desk staff was rude and discourteous. Since the hospital food was not very good, I had purchased and stored a few items in the refrigerator in my room to take to my Mother, which were stolen by the housekeeping staff! When I complained, no apology or restitution was offered and the Manager would not return my calls. As a single woman, I never felt safe staying there. The parking lot was dimly lit and frequently occupied by people loitering late in the evening. The rooms were tacky and dirty. The bed was uncomfortable, the air-conditioner barely functioned and was noisy. The room smelled of mildew and the hallways reeked of cigarette smoke. I have never been more disappointed and disgusted with a stay in my life! I would not recommend this hotel to anyone - I had a horrible experience!

Good Leaving Hawaii Hotel & Smoker's Oasis!
By ,
Very Good Hotel for your last few days on the island after hectic earlier days. Very Close to Airport and close to the best shopping in Kahului Area. Breakfast is ivery good considering it is included. Fine for Non-Smokers but nice that they have a few isolated Smoking Rooms which is convenient and practically non-existent on the island otherwise! There is also a nice little beach to sit on in back of hotel with a bench where you can reflect on your trip! Staff was quite friendly and helpful...

The Maui Beach Hotel--like New Jersey, only warm
By ,
I cannot believe a place like this is allowed to exist in Hawaii. Let's start with the smell. First, they allow smoking on the premises. Even if you're in a nonsmoking room, you get the fumes. When you're not choking on the smoke, you're inhaling the aroma of mildew. The street noise is loud, but you can drown it out to some degree by cranking up the antique room air conditioner. And the pool closes at 5:30 pm! Heaven forbid you might want to take a nighttime swim. Oh, it's a beach hotel all right. But the beach is part of an industrial waterfront. If you like Hoboken, you'll probably enjoy the Maui Beach Hotel.

No beach to be found
By ,
After a long day fighting the airlines and being rerouted all over we ended up spending a night here thinking a night in Maui would be better than getting into our final destination incredibly late. We couldn't have been been more wrong. The up side of the hotel has to be the friendliness of the staff and proximity to the airport. Aside from that there isn't much to recommend. The rooms are very small and not some place you'd want to spend any amount of time. After only an hour or so here we'd already started trying to find out if we could get an earlier flight out of town. There isn't any way that there has been a recent renovation of the facility (as indicated in another review) as everything looks to be from the early 80's. The hotel is located on a busy main street in town and you can hear the road from your room. That is if the jet engine of an AC unit doesn't drown out the cars. The busy road also means that almost everything is a huge problem to walk to. You'd expect a place with "beach" in its name to be close to the beach. It's located on the bay looking out at the harbor and shipping traffic. We weren't able to find anything resembling a beach within walking distance. In fact to get any where you'll need a car. Which is really what this place amounts to, an upscale motel. If you have your own transportation and only need a cheep place to crash the place is OK. For anything else I'd steer clear. You get what you pay for as they say.

Not a good way to start (or end!) a trip to Paradise
By ,
~Despite our late arrival, our room was not ready for us. ~When we were eventually given a room, we were somewhat surprised to discover that the bathroom had no door on it. Not only was there no door, but the toilet was fully visible from the outside door to the room. We didn't realize what a inconvenience this would be until I left the room for ice and had to wait until my husband had finished using the bathroom to re-enter the room. ~After one use of the toilet, it backed up and despite our calls to the front desk for maintenance, it remained unusable for the duration of our stay. ~The carpeting in the room was filthy -- sticky to the touch and I was disgusted to find the bottoms of my feet were blackened after walking across the floor just enough to move our suitcases from near the door to a location nearer the bed. Needless to say, I, my husband, and my son wore our shoes for the remainder of our stay. ~Our room was described as having a queen-sized bed. Since our bed at home is queen-sized, we were unpleasantly surprised to discover that my husband was unable to stretch out on the bed without his feet dangling off the end. At 6"1", a standard queen sized bed should be more than adequate in length to support him comfortably while sleeping. ~Our frustrations and criticisms of the room upon check-out were met with a response of "Well, that's your opinion." ~All in all, a thoroughly unpleasant experience. We certainly would not stay there again, nor would we recommend it to anyone else.

Underrated Place
By ,
Maui Beach was recently renovated ($4 mil). We had rooms on the 1st and 2nd floors. Rooms looked like they were very newly renovated, very nicely done. No old smells or old carpets or outdated bathrooms. Although the rooms are a little small (including the shower - a 200# person would be a tight fit) they are comfortable and very quiet. Although our room was classified as a GARDEN room we had a good view of the ocean. Great location in Kahului, close to shopping centers and restaurants. There are safes in the room as well as refrigerator, and internet service. Too bad there is no microwave or coffee maker but that is minor

good proximity to shopping and airport
By ,
Good proximity to airport and shopping.... facilities are old however, convenient... Rooms smelled a bit with odor ( humidity )... Parking inconvenient(later in the day) after being out sight seeing ... Housekeeping hopefully will keep up with the clean carpets, bed mattresses and sheets...(hope no bedbugs have arrived) Thank you from Seattle...

I would definately stay there again
By ,
I loved that it was clean and had a peaceful view of the harbour and the ships and was near all the shops and had an airport shuttle too.I loved the kiosk for my morning coffee and a laundry for washing and wireless internet facilities. I was visiting Kahului to see a friend and I would love to go there again and I would definatley stay at this hotel again. I have no complaints at all about this hotel. I found it clean and comfy and convenient.:)
