Maui Schooner Resort, Kihei

This is our 15th year staying at the Maui Schooner. It is our home in paradise for 2 to 3 weeks each year. The property is kept in excellence condition by Nancy and her staff. I agree the units are out dated, but in excellent condition and repair. We like the smaller size resort (we own 4 weeks at the Schooner) because of the friendly atmosphere. We also own at 3 other resorts, (Diamond Resorts in Kauai, Pueblo Bonito Sunset in Cabo, and Star Island Resort & Spa in Fl) – they are all excellent resorts and truthful more up-to-date than the Schooner, but the best value for money and location – we choose the Schooner.

First...the website should be updatated! It certainly doesn't do justice! The Schooner is much nicer than it appears on the website! Dislike: The front dest attendant expressed that we should check for an early check-in when she called to confirm out reservations a week before our arrival, so we did...but to no avail. We actually checked in at 3:55pm and they acted as tho we were getting to check in EARLY. I guess I dont consider 5 mins as an early check-in. I later found out that that is standard for them to say and also found and heard a number of unsatisfied guests sitting around the pool with their luggage waiting for their rooms to be cleaned! (They'd obviously been told the same thing) Likes: I loved the size of the property...2 buildings! The pool was great and the grounds are very well kept! They provide the racquets and balls for the tennis courts and the equipment for shuffle board. There are alot of shops and great dining establishments within walking distance. We highly recommend the Cafe Ole!

We stayed at this resort and were so dissatisfied! After our first night, we discovered while making the bed a HUGE glob of dried bodily fluid!!!! The front desk and the manager, Nancy had several lame excuses i.e. bleach, masking tape. It was clearly bodily fluid!! Don't waste your money. An hourly motel would be more clean!

my wife and myself were offerred a week at the schooner checking the web site we werent sure if we wanted to go,the pictures looked outdated and run down we were wrong ,it had a good location it was quiet very clean and it looked and felt like a home away from home. We did make a suggestion to update there web site. centrally located between shopping and restaraunts. AND MUST FOR ANYONE DRIVE THE TWO OR SO MILES TO FREDS MEXICAN RESTARAUNT,we found it and had dinner 3 nights in a row i recommend the cajun shrimp burrito, we will go again!

We have stayed in more "upscale" large resorts, but the smallness of Maui Schooner , layed back atmosphere and beautiful grounds right on the ocean met our vacation dream. We will go back.

It was our first visit (April, 2008) and we were a little anxious about what to expect. The ladies at the front desk were so friendly and helpful. We could see the grounds were beautiful and very well maintained, but what would the room hold for us. My husband went in first with a couple of suitcases and said, "this is beautiful". He was right, everything about this room was great! The rooms were very large, clean and decorated beautifully. The view was superb. The Schooner's location is fantastic, close to markets, shopping and restaurants. They also provided sand chairs and a cooler to take with you on a picnic or to the beach. Thanks Schooner for making our vacation one to remember.

This is not a bed and breakfast as listed. We go here every year and I love it. The grounds are beautiful, the location is good, the 2 bedroom unit works well for us with guests, and it seems so away from the hustle and bustle. The atmosphere is like Maui 20 years ago.

We had a great 2 bedroom suite. Overlooked the ocean and beach. The kitchen was well equipped. Loved the barbecue at the poolside. Had a very relaxing trip. People were friendly and helpful at the front desk. Very clean unit and well landscaped grounds. The unit had a cooler and beach chairs which were handy. The pool was was nice and warm. We spent a week in Waikiki before and after Maui. Maui Schooner was the best. Next time I'm just going to the Maui Schooner for longer. Only thing I would like improved is to have more comfortable seating for 6 in the living room- really only good for 4 adults.

during our stay in november 07, we discovered roaches at two separate site of the location. when we notified the management, they seemed like it was no big deal. so book at your own risk!

The Maui Schooner is our home resort and by exchanging our 2006 week for one in 2007, we were able to get 2 2-Bedroom units at the same time. There were 7 of us there, celebrating a 50th wedding anniversary. The accomodations were perfect for our group of 5 adults and 2 children. If glitz and glamour are what you are looking for, you won't find it at the Schooner. But if you want a clean, quiet, well equipped place where you will feel at home, this is it. Over the years, the resort has added an elevator for the B building (we all voted to be accessed for it), added storage facilities for folks with late flights or early arrivals, kept the pool and landscaping up to date, and made sure the units were equipped with anything you could think of...even beach towels , chairs and an ice chest to take to the beach of your choice. Recently they added free Wi-Fi. There is ocean in front of the resort, but it is where the Hawaiians used to raise fish in ponds and is too shallow for swimming. But it's great for walks, runs, and beachcombing. The sunsets and sunrises from the balconies in both units (one in the A building, the other in the B) were beautiful. We ate breakfast and dinner on the balconies most days. We also were able to fix healthy food that matched our dietary needs (one diabetic, two organic-food nuts). We have stayed at many timeshares in the 12 years we have owned at the Schooner, and although some were newer (some older) none were any nicer. It is truly our "Home away from home."
