By Penny, 9/29/11
Our room had bedbugs! Had to visit a walk-in clinic to get a shot AND get oral medication for the itching! STAY AWAY from this hotel!!!

My favorite place
By K.P., 4/28/11
It is a little older, we call it a Mamala Papala spot. Rooms are basic, small bathroom, fridgde but no microwave. There is obviously a management thing happening, the restaurant is closed and there is need of a little pool repair.....BUT it is secluded, nice grounds, great relaxing at the pool, close to shopping and just laid back. We have stayed 3 times for a week each time. Walk into Waipouli to rent bikes, ride up the bike bath to great beaches (be prepared for al fresco sun bathing), explore Kapa'a town. Restaurants all walking distance (or bike) Coconut Marketplace next door. The beach is lined by a path that is great for a morning run. I can't say enough, it is a great location so I can deal with a little less in the room (who stays in their room anyway) If you are looking for high end luxury this is not for you. Price is great for what you get! Love the place, can't wait to go back.

Very pleased
By Dumby, 9/6/09
This is an incredible place for the money. We spent days looking at other hotels and most of them don't show pictures of the surrounding neighborhood because that is where the next door hotel is, sharing space. After spending ten days on the island, we came to the conclusion that many places were overly expensive without reason other than "the haoles will pay what we ask". I was pleased with the low cost of this place. It is an older hotel with nice lawns and 2 pools, right on the beach in a quiet part of Kapaa. There are no next door hotels. It is near Coconut Grove strip mall, a boogie board rental place, and a kayak rental place, with condos on the other side. Each room has A/C and you get a lanai. I liked hearing the ocean at night. There is no restaurant but there is a small convenience store room in the office with things like ice cream, post cards, sunscreen, and hygiene items. The grounds are very clean and manicured and staff are always visible taking care of the grounds and cleaning rooms. Staff both in the office and on the grounds were very personable. Though I did not request much from the office, we stayed twice - once for a few days in late August, and the next time for three days in early September. We asked for a quiet room and got one both times, which was nice because we could stay away from the partiers. We were pleased enough both times to want to stay again in the future. I liked being able to walk down to the beach to watch the sunset or play in the water. It might not have the yuppie amenities of some of the more expensive places, but it is well worth the money and good for singles, couples, or families.

Don't stay here!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/1/09
Not only is it old, run down, and unhealthy; their customer service is horrible. I missed my reservation due to airline delays and the manager Anna had no sympathy with me or the online hotel booking representatives who called to get a refund for a room I never even stayed in. I called as soon as I knew I wasn't going to make the reservation and the employee told me to call the manager in the morning. Well she happened to be off all weekend, and when she was finally reached after 6 attempts and 4 days later, she said that I was a no show and that I didn't call to cancel on the night of the reservation. To make a long stoy short, I recieved no refund or compensation, and wasted my time on the phone for an hour. Not only was that a bad experience, but when I went to meet my friends here the following day and swam in the pool I quickly became happy that I hadn't stayed here. The pool flagstone is loose and has mold and mildew growing under the stone and in the cracks. My friends room was tiny and old. Just pay a little more money and stay in a better hotel. Hopefully this place changes management soon or gets an investor to revamp the place.

This is our special place!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/27/08
We loved it here, it was quiet, clean, the employees were helpful and extremely kind to us. This was our first time in Hawaii and it just made our trip all the more special. We will definately go back and stay again. We actually cried when we had to go home. Sentimental, yes, but happy too.

A hotel converted into a stage set.
By Kenny, 8/21/07
We've been staying at this hotel for more than 10 years, but it's no longer Hawaiian-owned. The new chain has converted the main court, restaurant, parking lots and one of the pools into multiple sets for a Tom Cruise Vietnam-era movie. The mess won't be cleaned up until October 2007. Cables everywhere. No warning. No discounts. No food. Walk to Coconut Marketplace for breakfast. Moreover, the ads say $94, but we paid $129 for the low-end room. The help was courteous and efficient, not their fault that an outsider bought the place. We'll go somewhere else next year. Aloha, no. #

Paradise Revisited
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/8/07
My husband and I booked a tour which included this Hawaiian owned group of hotels located on each of the islands that we visited. The workers, staff and all that were connected with our stay was absolutely fabulous. Close to shopping, restaurants and sightseeing places. Easy access to everything. Hoping to get back in near future and will book our stay with Kauai'i Sands. Thank you Staff.......
