Don't waste your money!!

We stayed for a 3 nights and wished we hadn't. The whole experience really put a dampner on our holiday. We were told the Hyatt is a 5 star hotel (although some websites claim it is 4 or 4 and a half , so who knows??). We had a mountain view room on the 25th floor and the room itself looked as though it belonged in a 3 star motel. The bathroom was so small - a bathtub that you stood in to shower, with a shower curtain (nope, not even a shower screen), with sections of the wall and floor that had been retiled (poorly) and didn't match the original tiles (can't you just re-tile the whole thing?? Don't be so tight).
We went back to reception to ask if we could have a room that had been renovated which at least took it out of the 1970's - we would pay more, no problem - and were informed by two bored & unhelpful reception staff that our room had in fact been renovated last year.
The staff had no interest in whether we were happy nor any desire to see that our stay there was pleasant. I thought this odd, from a hotel that claims at every turn that they "take pride in offering you the best of everything" (quoted verbatim off their website - check it out under Guest Services). I note too that the website fails to give you any contact details of where you might lodge a complaint, and pointedly, no comment cards are available within your room - you have to specifically request one from reception.
Also note they have gone to the surprising expense of installing an in-room safe, only to charge you $3.50/day to use it in order to keep your valuables safe from theft! Included is a small coffee machine and sachets of instant coffee and powdered creamer for your use - don't be fooled though, this they charge you for also!! Note too that the price of using this instant coffee is not included in the mini bar price list, as reception staff claimed (I looked 3 times to ensure I had not missed it) and not a single staff member could actually tell me how it would actually cost. It would no doubt be cheaper and you would likely have a much nicer cup of coffee if you simply walked downstairs to a cafe or crossed the road to The Westin (as we did). It appears the hotel has gone to a surprising amount of trouble to charge for every tiny thing it possibly can. In fact, they even charge you for things you don't use - such as the mini bar charges we had on our bill when we did not use the mini bar.
The pool is ludicrously small - my neighbours pool is larger - and full of small, loud children. There are not enough chairs or pool lounges and the ones that are there are squashed in like sardines. We finally did manage to get a lounge, only to be abruptly told (along with all our new friends we were squashed in beside) that we had to get up and leave as they were conducting a wedding rehearsal shortly and all the outdoor furniture had to be moved. No apology, just move it!
And yes, as other guests have noted in their comments, it was noisy. The doors to each room are right beside each other (4 of them together) so when someone comes or goes, the door usually slams shut. I think I averaged about 3 or 4 hours of sleep each night.
The whole experience was so distasteful that not only would I not return to the Hyatt Waikiki, I would in fact be loathe to try any other Hyatt in the world - particularly when there are so many magnificent, truly 5 star hotels available to choose from. Do yourself a favour and stay at the Halekulani instead. It was our first choice and if it hadn't been booked out, we would have stayed there for certain.
