Yuck
By ,
Place is a disaster from the outside. From looking at the reviews the inside matches the exterior's appearance. I refused to even set foot in the place. Be warned and read the reviews carefully before you commit to a reservation you cannot cancel!!

We plan on returning!
By ,
The hotel had great plants, was cleaned well each day. We enjoyed the pool each day. It was well cared for. It is close to the airport and there are planes going over head. My son loved it and wants to return.

It's a local style hotel
By ,
The hotel has a wide entry open air lounge/veranda with lots of seating. Rooms are small, intended only to be slept in, but are you really in Hawaii to stay in a hotel room? Reminded me of the Manago where I stayed as a young child. Service friendly, room was clean. Yes, you will get up early as you hear neighbors moving around but you are in Hawaii to see it, not sleep it, yeah?

Good value, nice staff
By ,
The location of this hotel is really good--near the airport, right off Highway 11 and near Highway 19. It's four miles away from some good ocean swimming and snorkeling. The hotel is a bit rundown, but very clean and secure. There seemed to be enough parking for the guests. The free breakfast at the attached restaurant is a good deal too. There's also a nice bar/restaurant right across the street and a great Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant too. Downside--there's quite a bit of traffic noise and if you aren't used to to airplane noise, that might bother you. And it's not the least bit romantic. Definitely a good place for families or casual people who want to explore the volcanoes and the Puna District.

Would never stay here again
By ,
First, notice that there has not been a review on this hotel in over a year and a half. Someone got smart and read the reviews prior to booking a stay. There are a NUMBER of problems with this hotel, parking being the biggest, the rooms are old and out dated and smell. Many of the rooms were closed off because they were in such bad condition. We could hear the people from both sides of our rooms. There is no privacy. The windows are slat glass - so noise comes in and goes out easily and so do the bugs - even when the windows are closed. Do not keep lights on in the room at night as it attracts the bugs in. Only one staff member was helpful all others could seem too careless if you needed something. When I was there the hotel was only 25% full and the parking lot was completely full. Very inadequate parking space available. I had to walk well over a block to park my car on a side street. Removal all valuables from your car as we witnessed someone who had their car broken in to. There are many other options when staying in Hilo and I would recommend NOT STAYING HERE. I see below that there is a cheaper and nicer place to stay close by - wish I read these reviews before my trip. The location was good but there are other hotels that have just as good if not better locations. I did not even want to give this place a mark for Service, Cleanliness or Value, so the one star is being required by the system to accept my posting. There were hairs from prior guest in the bathroom. The floor in the room did not appear to have been vacuumed. I pulled the sheets back before getting into bed to make sure they were changed and clean. I am not a neat freak but after seeing the hair and stuff on the room floor, I had to wonder. There are many other options available on the Island and I would recommend extending your search elsewhere. I was very disappointed and will never stay at this hotel again. I know I was looking for a bargain when I booked this room, but it is not a bargain if you cannot relax and have a good nights rest. I have stayed in Hostels that are in better shape and that is sad to say. I do not wish to damage this property’s reputation but just want people to know what to expect if they plan on staying here. Visit the 3rd world without a Passport !
By ,
Do not consider this property. The place is so run down, it should not be allowed to operate. While on vacation to the Big Island, for the 3rd time on that island, we decided to try for a helicopter tour of the volcano. We found out that it was much cheaper to ride helicopters on the Eastern Hilo side, rather than the Western Kona side where our 5* Luxury Hilton Resort was located. The shock of going from a "best in the world" type property to a "should not be allowed to operate" property was amazing. The rooms were musty and moldy at the Hilo Seaside. The Air Conditioner did not operate. The staff was indifferent. Save your precious vacation time. Do not stay at this place. I've heard there are very nice b&b options and also cabins near the village of Volcano. Hilo in general is a dump, there are no decent hotel options in the city of Hilo itself. Aloha!

comming back
By ,
When we visit the big island we visit the island. A hotel room is for rest up for the next day. The rooms are clean the service is great, the workers all friendly. Us locals like to enjoy the island as much as the room. As long as we have our privacy and not so much outsiders it's all good. Hilo seaside is a place only the locals or people with qualities like us locals can appreciate as much as we do. The others spoiled.

close to airport
By ,
This location is very close to the airport and convenient for persons just arriving in Hawaii and too tired to travel. There is a nice restaurant on the premises but not much difference between the rooms overlooking the garden and the more expensive ones overlooking the ocean. I recommend reserving the least expensive room!
