Bed bugs, expensive, poor service, great location
By Justin, 10/4/10
Bed bugs! We stayed on the 4th floor and found bed bugs. Another couple in my group staying a few rooms down from us had the same issue. This hotel is expensive for having such small rooms. Some things are also supposed to be "historic", but they seemed more like they were just old (my roommate got stuck in the elevator between floors for over 30 minutes!). I have stayed in other Hilton hotels in the past and was surprised and disappointed to see this one did not offer the same amenities (fridge/microwave, free breakfast, free access to business center printing/computer) and did not seem as nice. The several interactions I had with the front desk employees during the daytime were not pleasant; I also observed them being rude to other hotel patrons at least three times while passing through the front lobby. They definitely did not show southern hospitality. However, the bell person and manager were prompt in responding to the bed bug issue and quickly got us moved to another room. The one thing this hotel does have going for it is that it is in an excellent location. I also would have to say the food was wonderful, and the head chef and kitchen staff members were great. Overall, the experience was not fun, I would not recommend it to others, and it was not worth the money. It did not live up to the Hilton name I have experienced in several other locations.

Can not wait to leave
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/20/10
The only redeeming quality this hotel has is that it allows pets and the in-room high speed wireless internet was actually fast and consistent. I stayed at this hotel because an event I attended was hosted here. From the beginning our stay was lacking in quality. I wanted to self park my car and the valet told me he had to have my keys while I checked in. I returned to have the valet gone and I had to stand outside, in the dark, for several minutes while he completed other things, then I had to ask for my keys at least twice before they were returned. The rooms have no microwaves or fridges and the cable tv selection is basic at best (You get about 10 channels and all the others are about the hotel). If you have medication that needs refrigeration or small kids, this is not the hotel for you. The coffee pots produce lukewarm coffee at best, and our room was not even adequately restocked. The second day, we had coffee but no condiments or stir sticks. The staff in the front lobby is rude and not helpful but the other workers we encountered were friendly and courteous. Some websites list the pet deposit as $50 but it is actually $75, and our dog is close to the weight limit and the valet and bellhop actually questioned us about our pet. The noise from the road can be annoying and you can actually hear other guests flush their toilets. The bathrooms need to be updated and the floor behind our toilet was wet from an apparent leak. The entry and exit gates to the parking deck work marginal at best (definitely not worth the $13 self-parking fee). Parking spaces are small and the roof is low, which leaves a lot of potential for property damage to your vehicle - and all of the scrapes along the walls and roof indicate it probably occurs more than it should. They do have several signs posted letting you know they are not liable for any damage to your vehicle, yet most of the parking spaces are more suited for a compact car. I agree with underWHELMING - if I could get my money back I would, and they made errors on my guest ticket and my bill was about $150 more than expected. This is not what I expected from a Hilton Hotel, and I will never stay here again.

UnderWHELMING
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/16/10
My husband & I decide to take advantage of a long weekend and visit Savannah. We were excited about our stay at the Hilton, and looking forward to the experience. We were very surprised that the service was "good" at best. Most of the time the valet, concierge service and front desk staff were rude. When not rude, they were nasty nice. It was as if we were bothering them with every question. For example, we needed to know how to get to the military base. The front desk staff begin to explain (w/o taking a breathe or allowing time to write it down). She said do have it, and I said no. The people in the line laughed, and she said, "O.K., where did you get lost" - being very sacastic! We couldn't use our key to park and when pushed the button, the gentleman yelled "VALET". We explained that we could get out or in and after asking the same questions again and again, we were told to go back to the front desk and they would rekey our key. We explained that there were cars behind us and that we could back-out. ONLY then would they open the gate thingy! It's wet and rainy outside, and it would have been nice to spend the weekend in the hotel and have the experience of "southern hospitality". We still have 2 nights here and I wish we could get our money back. The Country Inn or Hyatt was calling my name! The area sounding the hotel is extremely beautiful and you feel the history. It's unforetunately that the service isn't better. Get it together Hilton or change your name.

Terrible!
By Tim, 11/18/09
We rented the place for a wedding. Took me 60 minutes to convince the rude manager to let me have my dog stay in the hotel. They lost a $300 gift that we left for someone at reception. I called and asked them to find it after we left the hotel. That was 1 month ago and I am still awaiting a call back. Was not expecting such poor service but at least they got our money. Good for them.

LIKED IT
By SRC, 9/26/09
Stayed there 4 nights. Room was clean, beds were comfortable. Food in dining room kind of pricey but good. Valet parking expensive but convenient for my 85 yr Mom with a walker. The staff were all nice. Good location. good price. I would stay there again, and they allow Dogs!!!!

will not go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/6/09
The guest confirmation said that the check in time waS 4PM, THEY DID NOT EXPLAIN THAT YOU COULD CHECK IN EARLIERI A ROOM WAS AVAILABLE. And the first room that they assigned me was dirty, the maintenance people had been working on the shower and left the doors off, water coltrols off and ceiling tiles out. The next room was ok, but to watch other that the weather channel you had to pay. The valet cervice was slow and sorry.Even the lobby area did not live up to the empression of a Hilton. At checl in, the clerk was slow and surley as if i was bothering or had awakened him.I have had better accomodations at one of those $8.88 per night motels.

Overall it was a great stay
By TeenaL, 2/15/09
Stayed there over Valentines weekend. We did valet service at this hotel. First of all check in was a breeze! The guy who checked us in was very professional and attentive. We got to our room; the room was very nice, we had a balcony and our view was very exceptional. The bathroom was great.. I loved our shower. Overall our stay was great except for two things. 1 Rude guests who for two days were loud and very disrespectful espcially at 2 am when people were trying to sleep and the 2. the noise by the near by bar ( not much the hotel can do but hey it's a dislike.) I will stay at this hotel again.

Its Okay.
By Chris J, 1/12/09
Lots of construction going on right now with this place. You can get a good price for a room now because of this. There is nothing special however about this hotel. Location is close enough to walk to most of the areas in the historical district. However, the location near the church was annoying. If you have any desire to sleep in, I would advise staying somewhere else, the church bells ring for like an hour straight on Saturday morning. After a night of drinking, that was the last thing my aching head needed.

Don't bother
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/5/09
Room was dirty. Three of us stayed in the rm & every day they left just 2 wash clothes. One day no towels. They didn't vacume our room the whole week we stayed there. Nasty cup of water with cig. butts on the balcony when we got there & still there when we left. One day didn't service our room at all. Keys kept decoding themselves. Power was out for 12 hrs one of the days. They purposefully decoded our keys 20 minutes before check out time when they had a valid credit card on file. I was told I could pay cash for my room but they put it on the card anyway. I couldn't get my car out of the garage because of the decoded keys, upon which their valet parking attendants began yelling at me to get out of the way. I went in & told all of this to the front desk clerk as well as the manager on duty. No one to this day has said they are sorry not even one time. I guess that means they are not. You don't expect this kind of service from a hilton hotel. I love Savannah but this experience has made me not want to return ever again.

Good location and great experience
By StacyN, 8/30/08
Even though the lobby was under construction, our room had been newly redecorated. It was great. The bed was foam and sooo comfortable. Self-parking under the building was easy but be aware of the extra $11/day fee. But, for that they gave us a card and we could come in and out as many times a day as we wanted. The check in was quick and we got a good recommendation on eating at the English put about a block away. The restaurant and bar looked great but we didn't get a chance to try them. The hotel is in a good location with some parks nearby and about a 1/2 mile easy walk to the waterfront. I would recommend a GPS for navigating the city, though, since the streets start and stop unexpectedly.
