One night is not enough!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/19/10
What a beautiful hotel! The staff is great and knows the area so you don't get stuck in tourist spots. The room was clean, modern and spacious. The gym was up to date and the tennis courts looked inviting. The morning we were there the temp was about 45 so a little too chilly to play. The sunset was one of the prettiest you can see in Florida! OUTSTANDING!

Will definately be back
By Alana, 09/17/09
For starters, the landscaping and layout of the resort was beautiful. The staff was helpful, curteous, and very welcoming. The resort was not that busy, which we loved. The resort has a very romantic setting, but I was there with my cousin for a girls' trip and we had a lot of fun. It was very relaxing. The room was very nice and clean. The view was awesome even if it was the bay. I do agree, that the beach was deceiving. From the web site it looked as if there was a nice beach, but it isn't a beach you can lay on or even walk on. The pools were fantastic. We didn't use the valet service, we did the free parking, which didn't take too long to walk or there was always a golf cart or van to take you to it. We would pull into the parking and someone would automatically arrive to take us to the main resort building, which was nice. We did eat at the Tarpon House restaurant on site. It was delicious. It was a little pricey but I expected it to be. We did not use the spa services at all b/c they seemed too pricey. But all in all, this place was awesome!! I plan on returning with my husband next year for our anniversary.

We loved it!
By Alma, 08/30/09
We loved the view of the harbor. We watched dolphins from the pier. The pool was great. The drinks were a bit costly. We were charged for items from the mini bar even though we did not even open it! Overall, we enjoyed the facility.

this was nice but not whats expected
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/01/08
my fiancee and i went here the first week in march. the pics were fabulous so we were pretty excited about staying here. but when we got here although we found it was nice, it just was not truley worth the cost. we have traveled to some other really beautifull places that were only a fraction of the cost. What ever you do please if getting a spa treatment request a seasoned technition. I am an avid massage loving individual, and out of the probably 80 massages i have had in my life it was by far the worst i have ever recieved!!!(my friend got one and she said hers was pretty good though) this would be a great place to stay if u just felt like reading a book, but other than that there really isnt much else to do. At all!!!! although if u do plan on going definetly have a car because the resort is not actually on sanibel istland, u must take a tool bridge for 6$ and on the island is the best italian restuarant ever. dolce vita. they even have a real opera singer entertaining u while u eat!! totally worth it! just be prepaired to have a long evening at the restuarant! hope this helps you out!

Great amenities!

This is my second visit here. While the hotel isn't on Sanibel, it is located pretty centrally to most of the points of interest to the area. The beginning of the hotel experience is with the smiling guards at the guard house, and gets better from there. The valets are very quick and friendly, and work extremely hard, I rarely saw anyone lounging around. Very well worth the $18.00 a day not to have to walk from the parking lot with a 3 and 7 year old. This would be one of the only down sides to the hotel that I could find. The front desk staff are kind and efficient, even when my 7 year old got sick on the outside veranda. The Security staff are also very efficient, I locked myself out one day and they quickly let me in, and verified my identity- important when traveling with children. The Concierge (Viola was our favorite) is knowledgeable and able to anticipate what I wanted to ask before I asked it. The room was beautiful, and well appointed for a family of 4. We did have to request a refrigerator from Housekeeping ($15.00 a day) for our picky eaters, and that was the only other complaint I had- I think it would be better if the hotel offered the choice of either mini-bar or refrigerator, rather than charging extra for a fridge. Also, no continental breakfast at the main hotel, but Breakfast, Tea, and Hors d' Oeuvres at the Grande Bay. There are 2 pools at the main hotel, with a free Saturday night 'Dive-in' for kids (movie on the big screen while they swim), and another pool (salt water) at the Grande Bay. You can visit any or all of them via the shuttle (golf cart, car, or bus) for no additional charge. The Shuttle bus will take you to and pick you up from Sanibel for free at appointed times, (I believe the cost is included in the room price, but don't quote me) and that spares you the $6.00 toll to visit the islands. The view from the room was of the lush blooming trees facing the Gulf and the Sanibel Lighthouse (beautiful at night!). The Housekeeping staff were all wonderful (Thank You Rose Marie!), and always ready to help. Best of all to the kids was the bakery on the lobby floor-- not only great bagels but ice cream and gelato- what a treat! Overall, a good place to visit. We would go back.

Beautiful Place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/27/07
My husband and I thought Sanibel was very nice. We stayed at the Grande Bay, which seemed to be for older couples. The main hotel seemed better suited for younger couples and families. Although we enjoyed the 3 times daily food spread at the Grande Bay. We had read reviews and there were a lot of negative ones, so we were concerned, until we arrived. You are greeted by a guard in a guard house, so that was our first clue that this was indeed a nice place. Everyone was very nice and helpful. The tram drivers didn't know a lot about the area outside of the resort, but the concierge answered any questions we had. They also took care of us when we had to cancel our spa reservation as well as our dinner cruise reservation because I was ill at the outset of our vacation. I am unable to comment on the quality of those experiences because of that fact. Our room was nice, but theou could tell the place was a little older. As far as the cost, if you stay at a 5 star resort, you should expect to pay more for everything. All in all we would go back.

Not even IN Sanibel!
By Z, 05/08/07
This hotel was the worst we've visited in all our trips. First of all, the hotel is not even on Sanibel Island. If you want to go to the islands, you have to cross the toll and pay $6.00 each time you want to visit the actual Sanibel and Captiva islands. The parking for the hotel is clear across to the other side of the hotel's landscape. You have to walk about half a mile from where you park the car to get back to the hotel. Valet parking is $18.00 a day if you don't want to do this. Our room was beside the service entrance door - for the entire night we heard the slams of that door from the service staff. The room has NO mini refrigerator or microwave, so forget bringing back leftovers from your dinners out. The hotel staff were not saavy with the events around the hotel and with booking the dinner cruise. They were unattentive to our needs. The view was of Sanibel Island, not even the actual Gulf waters. Needless to say, we left that hotel after the first night and went to stay on Sanibel Island in a MUCH nicer hotel with a Gulf view for the remainder of our week-long vacation.

Just average...that's all
By Scott, 05/08/07
Disregard the photos for your own good. I could make Compton, CA look good with the right angled shots and photo doctoring equipment. For the money it is not worth it. It's not to say my stay was terrible, but just average and I can get "average" at a motel and drive to the beaches for the day. Look at other options before considering Sanibel Harbour. P.S. 1)the beer selection is terrible, only 1 person (a bartender) knew what a "microbrew" was. 2)the pillows in our room looked crisp and white but smelled like a rotting corpse and I would know because I worked in a morgue.

Amazing Honeymoon Memories!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/23/06
My husband and I had a wonderful 8 night stay at this resort, and every night (and day) was truly amazing. The staff at the desk and especially in the pool bar were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was well accommadated and kept very clean. Not to mention the view was breathtaking. If we had only 1 downfall to staying at this hotel it would be that you can not walk on the beach or swim in the oecan because it is on a bay. With all of the activities and places to walk right on the grounds, we really didnt mind. THe pools, views, restaurants and spa kept us busy enough. We look forward to going back soon.
