nothing special
Place did not appear as fancy as it advertised. Room was outdated, nothing special, and pricey for its lack of amenities. It is close to the beach, and has a nice pool. Beyond that, it is a bring your own everything type of place. Staff was friendly. Need a car to get around, so location is not great either, unless you want to just stay near the beach and cook your food.

We really like this place
By Jim Macualey, 12/16/08
Silver Sands Beach Resort December 15, 2008 We go to have a vacation and to visit relatives The Silver Sands Motel is an old beachfront one-story “L” shaped motel. The end of the long part of the “L” is perpendicular to the beach and is a few feet from the beach. The bottom of the “L” faces the street. On one side of the long part, the largest part, the rooms face the parking lot and on the other inner side face the pool, which is enclosed by the “L” and the sand dunes of the beach and a few cottages. The pool is large and very nice and the area green and attractive. A short walk to the end of the motel, a few steps across the small sand dune and you are on the beach. You don’t even need sandals. The beach has lost some sand but this is the whole Key Biscayne beach and it will probably come back. Moreover it’s still nice as it is. The units contain a small kitchen area –A counter to sit at, no stove but a sink, fridge, microwave and coffee maker. Very good for having breakfast and lunch, if you don’t want to spend the time going out to eat. A Win Dixie is a few blocks away to pick up what you may want. The unit is sparse for having dinner but you are on vacation and probably want to go out anyway. We have just returned from a stay there and as usual look forward to having the chance to return. We have stayed there several times and greatly enjoy it. The Ritz Carlton it is not (which is about a block away and costs about 3 or 4 times as much). But at Silver Sands you have the chance to experience old Miami and old Key Biscayne. It’s simply a wonderful opportunity to sort of step back in time to a peaceful and enjoyable time at the beach or pool or just watching the many iguanas. So you don’t have all the amenities of the Ritz-Carlton, but for us, we would much rather stay here than the Ritz Carlton and I think so would a lot of people so long as you recognize that this is not the Ritz Carlton. In Fact, we are quite concerned that the next time we are able to go there Silver Sands won’t be there but will be in the process of being replaced by another high-rise building. The owner of the Silver Sands should be commended for preserving this little jewel. We wish it could be given or designated a historic status or property to preserve it forever. We offer a few suggestions: 1. Get a unit on the poolside. It’s worth the little extra charge because (we think) it’s so much nicer to look out at a pool rather than a parking lot and it comes with an outside table chairs and umbrella. 2.We usually go off-season in the fall. We don’t like crowds. 3.Stop at Win Dixie before you retire. It’s nice to have breakfast in the room

historic motel gone to the rats!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/24/07
O god! This place use to be awesome! My mom modeled swimsuits here in the '60's and I learned to swim there from an Olympic coach. My family is from the Key and we have TRUE AUTHORITY to say "this place has gone to the rats!." Literally, hundreds of rats were infesting the grounds after dark. We were so looking forward to our little retreat.....when, in reality, we demanded our $ back, and left for a relative's house. This motel has so much potential, it's a true shame that the current management has let it go to seed. p.s. I almost to say the room was filthy, besides!

Its fun when you are with a groop of friends
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/30/07
I like this location because it is at a modest price and it is right infront of the ocean. The staff are nice but when you are with a groop of kids they get pesky and irritated. THIS IS NOT THE PLACE TO GO WITH loud and noisy children. The RITZ CARLTON is more child friendly. Other than that the motel/hotel is great. The rooms are a perfect size and it is relaxing and cozy.

location location location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/26/07
I have stayed many times at the silver Sands. One does not go for the service or appearance of the place. But oh the location! Probably the only really quiet motel in the Miami area but convenient to everything. I love it and am looking forward to my next visit in April!

Miami's Best Secret
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/19/07
20 minutes from the latin hustle of Miami, 5 mins from the Ritz & big hotels on Key Biscayne - this is a wonderful secret paradise- no crowds, low cost, minimal services but great value. Great for families with kids, or couples wanting quiet. Read a book, walk the beach to a lighthouse, calm ocean, swim to the sandbar, see manatees. 1 story motel from the 60's, kitchenettes, low cost cuban food nearby,(the Oasis) walk to a great bakery for breakfast (the Boullangerie), great organic market. An absolutely peaceful week at the beach - we'll be back.

Ever seen this resort??
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/20/06
I challenge you to find a pic of this place online of the outside structure. My good old buddy did (challenged me) because he and his family were going to stay here. And being the due dilligent person he is...he just wanted to see what the facilities looked like from the outside. Unfortunately, a pic like this does not exist. This hotel has not updated their website since 2002. I even went as far to call the hotel and ask them to send me a pic via email, however they did not have a digital camera. Although, maybe Carmen (General Mgr.) might be able to use a disposable camera, take the pics, develop them, and mail them to me. I'll have to wait for that, she's not in until NEXT WEEK. She's only works Mondays. Sounds like somebody has a case of the MONDAYS, ha, ha, ha - - taken directly from the masterpiece Office Space. I DO NOT recommend staying at this hotel. I would like to mention a quote from a review about this facility that said it best - Couple pulls up to the Silver Sands excited to begin their honeymoon. Husband says to the taxi driver "Keep Driving". Fortunately, for this couple they were able to build a fort on the beach out of rubble and palm leaves which provided a step up in accomodations. But you don't have to take my word, please visit the Silver Sands and see for yourself. OH!!!!! I almost forgot, can you please take a picture, and post it online. :)

Clean, comfortable, good located, smart value place. I had been in Silver Sands every year the last 4 years and I think to go back this year. Ideal for families.
