Poor value, rude personnel
By Shari, 06/02/09
The spartan, cheaply furnished room was far from the "classic elegance" described on the website. The front desk personnel and manager were rude. We decided against staying there and went to the truly elegant and politely staffed Hawk's Cay Resort at only $26/night more.

cant wait to get back....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/02/07
liked all of it. fabulous. rooms spacious and clean. bar and food - great! would definitely stay there again. bar area is big and inviting. had an ocean view room (end room which was all the better). all service to include vern, gus, pam and chefs was great. except there was a bartender (femaile) with a nasty look on her fax who was not friendly at all. dont know her name. but, she should change her carerr choice! relaxing. fun. great people. lots of children. poos are nice. loved the moonrising at the islander. loved the sunset at lorelie.

Rest Easy
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/18/07
If you're looking for a very Clean, Safe and Friendly place to stay, this is it. The resort has been completely renovated and is done in a modern carribean theme. No bright pinks and blues! The beach and pool are great for relaxing. The standard rooms are nice for two people, but if your bringing children you'll definately want to request a villa. We have stayed with them twice in the last year and have another reservation pending. Everything is pricey in the Keys, but not everything is worth it.

loved the Lori -Lei
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/12/07
A scorpion got into our room under the front door when it rained. The waitress at the pool tried to serve our tall under aged child a drink.Ants! I loved the Lori- Lei resturant across the street.

A great family vacation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/07/06
The grounds are beautiful. We have stayed at Cheeca before and this is nicer. Nicest rooms on the strip!!! Beach is huge. Pools are great. The staff is very helpful when you need them. All rooms are renovated. Breakfast is included which is great when you are with kids. The small kitchen was great for bagging lunches. You feel like you are camping with a room instead of a tent. Very relaxing. You can even grill at night if you want to. We fished off the pier and rented a 20 foot deck boat for the day. It was a lot of fun. We were able to rent it right from the resort. We went to Bentleys for dinner one night. THE BEST!!! We also went to the Islamorada Fish Company. (dont bother) The menu at the hotel looked good. Drawbacks-not enough people working at the bar (slow)/tiny ants by the kitchen area in the room. However this was only in our room because we were with other people who did not have ants in their room. It is Florida so if you can get past that the resort is super!!!!!

Nice Family Place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/20/06
This is a very nice place to stay. The rooms were nice and having a kitchenette was nice. The continental breakfast was plenty for us. We cooked out on the grill in the evening which saved money and was relaxing. The grounds were very nice, the pool area was alot of fun for our son. We asked some of the people by the pool how it compared to other places they staed in the Keys and they all said it is one of the nicest for the price. We would definately come again and recommend it to others.

Ask This Question Before You Book
By justabouttown, 06/10/06
The best thing about the Islander is the location, one of the few places you can stay in the Keys that is not on the noisy highway. The worst thing about the Islander, at least in June, is that they have may be having one or even several wedding parties going on. (Four on the Saturday we were there.) This makes for a lot of noise at night. I mean unbearably loud! Also, while the pools are beautiful, the room we stayed in was in desperate need of refurbishing, with broken blinds that wouldn't even close and stained walls in kitchen area and bath. Ugh! As the keys go (and much is worn and rustic here), the Islander is one of the better places to stay, but whatever you do, ask how many wedding parties will be going on while you're there or you may not get much rest.

Totally renovated the pics on this site are VERY old! Wonderful place to stay, beautiful.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/23/06
Nothing, it's perfect. The hotel has been completely renovated. The rooms are perfect, very clean and have everything you need. The whole atmosphere is so relaxing and top class. The pics on this site badly need updating! They are from the old unrenovated hotel.
