OMG!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/20/11
I was a Golf Director at Grenelefe from 1991-1994.........It's horrific what they have let happen.........I actually caught the tail end of a Unique Era in Florida Resort Golfing.....Just a shame that the Japanese let it go, while purchasing several other properties, and let Grenelefe self destruct.......

golf yes, condo's ?
By flip, 2/25/11
I played golf at grenelefe East Course today. It was a good play and one of the two best values in polk County. I also noticed a lot of construction/remodeling going on in the clubhouse area and throughout the complex. The pool had a good bit of activity and so did the bar. It appears to me that someone is trying to rehab the place.?? and I live up north.

Good reviews? Are you kidding me?
By Chris, 2/13/11
I don't remember much about this place prior to 2007, but what I do recall is that is was an absolutely beautiful place. Then the hurricanes came in 2005, and practically destroyed the place. As of 2011, the convention hall, the pools, restraunt, pro shops...everything...still in total disrepair. I drive around by the apartments and golf courses and can't imagine why anyone in their right mind would want to play there with other courses closer by offering so much more. The place is terrible. My mother has lived there since 2007, and in four years nothing has been done to make the place look any better. These good/great reviews are farces, and the pictures must be from over 10 years ago. Do yourself a favor and stay far, far away from Grenelefe.

Golfers - Avoid at All Costs
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/26/09
I visited Grenelefe about 14 yrs ago and was looking forward to returning for some golf. First - I'm not sure the clubhouse is safe to walkthrough - it's clearly been falling apart for years. The pro-shop is empty and the staff we met there was completely incompetent. Clearly not able to handle regular tee times much less a shot gun event that was going on. The price they were asking was higher than our rounds at Highland Reserve, Southern Dunes and Ridgewood Lakes. With Diamondback right across the street, avoid Grenelefe as there are too many great choices to play instead.

Recommended to New Teachers
By UrPersnlPsychCouch, 12/4/08
Here from the northeast US to teach school to underprivileged Title One students in neighboring Davenport, the Polk County School System recommended Grenelefe to us as a great residential condo occupancy for elementary education teachers. We found out why the price was right when we went to the golf clubhouse: IT LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING OUT OF THE MOVIE, "SUNSET BOULEVARD" WHERE SILENT FILM STAR, NORMA DESMOND SEDUCED SCREEN WRITER JOE GILLIS... IF IT WASN'T NORMA DESMOND'S PLACE, THEN IT LOOKED LIKE SOMETHING OUT OF THE DICKENS TALE "GREAT EXPECTATIONS" WHERE THE OLD BRIDE, MISS HAVERSHAM, WAS GIVEN THE GO-BY FROM HER GROOM. IF NOT THAT, THE CLUBHOUSE LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING OUT OF THE FILM, "THE SHINING", GHOSTLY -LOOKING BARTENDER AND ALL WITH THE SLICKED-DOWN HAIR! YUP... THE WESTGATE PEOPLE HAVE US STUCK HERE IN THE "HOTEL CALIFORNIA" WITH A YEAR'S LEASE!!!! ("We can check out anytime we like but we can never leave")

Great stay!!!
By Tom, 3/14/08
We really had a great time! We rented from private owners because "the resort" no longer rents short term in preperation for the pending sale to Feltrim. The pools are great, the courses are great, and the unit we got was very clean and the beds were very comfy. For the money, you can not beat this place. The clubhouse has not been repaired since some huricane hit a couple years ago so it needs paint and trim work, but it still has a great restraunt/bar with great service. It took us 30 minutes to Disney and 40 to Universal. Cypress Gardens was a GREAT deal!

Golf here, don't stay here
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/29/08
The golf course is great - that's it. I think they stopped short term stays. I am supprised it is still listed. Do not stay at a resort owned condo - they are very bad (if you can find one). If you want to stay in Grenelefe, find a private condo owner that does short term rentals. It is a nice area. Quiet and friendly. But the resort buildings are all junk.

This is a farce!
By Marci I, 1/21/08
The West course that is so advertized is not in use!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!The Westgate management has not "bothered" to restore the course. They run this property as a poor persons park.

Don't believe the good reviews...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/27/07
They are written by Grenelefe property owners that are desperate. This formerly outstanding resort has been allowed to fall into quite literally a ruin. If you don't believe me, visit the old Grenelefe West golf course and facilities. If that isn't a modern ruin, I don't know what is. And what a shame -- the old West Course was a Robert Trent Jones design of some repute in the 1980's hosting a number of PGA qualifying events. Maybe someone will buy this place and restore it to its former glory, but in the meantime, steer clear.
