Never Again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/26/07
This place needs to be shut down and refurbished.A good clean would be good too.Not only it was dirty, but I also came home with bed bugs bites. When I aproched the hotel staff about it they were not very interested and started telling me they might have been mosquito bites. No mosquito bites are completely different.

In Need of TLC
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/14/07
This Hotel may have been 5 star but not anymore rooms are really in need of updating very tired and old looking. Sheets and blankets were very bad and beds could do with updating also. Very shabby round the edges and paying to park was very expensive i think. Have stayed in much nicer and cheaper places than this.

Seriously dissapointed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/01/07
I had planed a great night with my wife and choose the Grand Bay for its Location . I was seriously dissapointed . The room was very nice, but not spotless clean as would be expected from a high end hotel . I had forgotten a Wine opener and requested room service to bring one , They showed up 2 hours later after 3 calls. We went out to have dinner and dancing and when we got back to the room a piece of clothing was missing, this we found out the next morning . At about 2 am i tried requested a blanket . (there was no extra blanket in the room .) The front desk never answered. Whenordering breakfast they forgot one orange juice. Now for the clincher when we checked out it cost us 26 bucks a car for valet service. There sign with prices is very well hidden behind a bush . All in all go elsewhere it was a nice night spoiled by them

Something wrong!!!
By Eddie G - UK, 08/04/07
The first review from a non U.S. citizen, Before I do, reading the previous reviews, this hotel really does get mixed reviews, so I think a lot depends on how well travelled you are!. I have travelled to and visited every contintent on this planet and never stay in accomodation below 4 star, so I have lots to compare it to!, here goes. The hotel is a dinosaur!!!, a sleeping Giant with the potential to really live up to it,s four star status, BUT IT DOESN'T!!Not by a LONG way. Many things about this hotel perplexed me ; 170 rooms, yet you never see any guests??? and yet our room wasn't ready till 5.30pm after arriving at the hotel from our cruise at 12.00pm!!! 170 rooms, no guests to be seen and the room not available till 5.30?? doesnt equate!! What made this particularly frustrating was that the front desk staff offered NO APOLOGY for this whatsoever and infact became quite defensive when we had the audacity to complain!! I counted a total of 9 staff working, in the two days I was there, so maybe the aforementioned does equate. The staff that we DID encounter, ALL communicated in SPANISH, CONTNUOUSLY!! in front of guests, not a problem for me as I am fluent in Spanish, but a real issue for my wife who doesnt understand what is being said. This is rude!, a basic lack of manners!!You could easly be forgiven for thinking that you were in a Spanish speaking Country!! The consierge recommended a retaurant for us to eat in that evening - PAESANO'S!....WE WERE THE ONLY DINERS IN THE WHOLE PLACE!!!!!Although to be fair, the food was good Every piece of furniture in the hotel looked second hand! and dated! The room was BIG! The view was nice! but the room lacked basic essentials such as a mini safe or mini bar. The room wasnt particularly clean,(a previous guest had left a pair of panties strewn on the balcony which were there to greet us when we opened the french doors, which in didnt lock!) Taking this a bit further, the bathroom was a great size but was DIRTY..!! UNACCEPTABLE!!! CLEANLINESS must be of the utmost importance in the hotel trade, especially in a four star facility and it certainly WASN'T in this hotel The pool area did provide towels and the pool looked clean enough, however again, the sense of abandonment was very apparent, no staff, an abandoned bar area, from which you could phone to reception if you felt like a drink. Th gym area? and the SPA? Both an insult to your intelligence. You cannot put a broken treadmill and a couple of weights in an abandoned room and call it a gym! Or have a hairdressing salon which remains continously closed and in darkness, and call it a SPA!!! The food from room service was ok but took 40 minutes to arrive. We only ate breakfast in the restaraunt and it was of a 3 star standard maximum. The buffet was limited, the food cold and they brought orange juice by the glass to you table?? To conclude, this hotel was offered as part of our pre and post cruise vacation by Royal Caribean cruises - SHAME ON YOU ROYAL CARRIBEAN!!! I will UNDOUBTEDLY continue this complaint to them in more detail in due course One final point, In reception they have a poster advertising that Guy Richards is hosting cabaret evenings starting September, with stars such as Danny Aelo, Tito Puente Jr and The Platters(I thought they were dead!)all performing, so perhaps that will generate some welcome income and allow some, much need investment in the hotel- problem is! Where will they get the staff to service these evenings!!! My advcie would be to any potential traveller, and in particular from the UK, If you are used to 4/5 star faclities world wide, DO NOT VISIT Grand Bay in coconut gove, it is FAR FROM GRAND and you will ultimately find youself writing a rather condeming report like this one - save the stress!!

Sadly faded
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/31/07
This hotel is in a great location and has large rooms. Its service is unfortunately far below what one would expect from the prices it charges, its imposing structure, and the hype on its Web site. One member of our party reserved two (guaranteed) rooms but no rooms were ready when they arrived at 5:30 pm; later that evening the hotel came up with one room, but not the second. The hotel's phones don't work properly (can't make outside calls, voicemail isn't available). Do not be fooled by glowing reviews of the hotel from its prior existence (as a Wyndham, I think). The current management is coasting on others' past glories and urgently needs to be replaced by people who understand the hospitality business.

going back this week
By Mayza, 07/21/07
The stay there was amazing, the rooms were very clean. The staff was very friendly. The only problem we encountered was getting our room. They had a big group so they took a little long to get us checked in!! OVerall all an excellent choice

Will definitely go back...
By Luisa Fernanda, 07/09/07
I stayed at this hotel 4 days and 3 nights; it was one of the best weekends so far...I was VERY hesitant to stay at this hotel because of the bad, more like, horrible reviews online but I decided to try it for myself. I sent an email to the reservations dept. expressing my hesitation about their hotel and they sent me more detailed information & assured that my stay will be a pleasant one. When we arrived the staff was extremely friendly and the hotel was beautiful. The room was awesome, very clean. The balcony is definitely a PLUS. there was absolutely nothing bad about it, and despite other reviews; you cannot hear any noise from other rooms. The staff is extremely friendly. One of its best perks is that this hotel is walking distance from the Grove. One flaw.....you must pay valet parking 24/day; but nonetheless I recommend this hotel to anyone looking for fun or a relaxing time.

poorly managed
By slick head, 06/28/07
this hotel is all appearance and no service. the rooms were dirty and the bathrooms were disgusting. the hotel was top heavy on ill trained and non english speaking managers. It may have been quite the place in its day, but what ever it was it is long since past.
