Description

Eden House has been a mainstay of Key West's hostelry roster for a couple of decades. Its 1920s ambience includes a tropical garden courtyard lush with greenery encircling a pool. Accommodations are in two-story units that vary in size and some share a bathroom. Some have a kitchenette, coffeemaker, refrigerator and private porch. Suites are more sumptuous accommodations, although all are pleasant. The operators of this classic resort are friendly, happy folk out to see you have a good time. Daily complimentary happy hour adds to that.

Horrible and Insensitive management and Owner
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/15/11
With utmost dissappointment I have to say this, that EDEN HOUSE is the most unprofessional hotels I have ever dealt with. God-forbidden you have a booking with them and you are stuck in a horrible HURRICANE or a SNOW STORM or a deadly EARTH-QUAKE and you cannot make it to the beautiful KEYS, they do not have the courtesy to understand the situation and refund the money back. I would never recommend anyone to go to this hotel. There are thousands of other Hotels in KEY WEST who I'm sure have better proffesionalism. To the OWNER of EDEN HOUSE, If you are reading this, I hope you would mend your policies to attract some guests.

Home away from Home
By suzanne pietrowski, 7/31/09
We've spend a good deal of time in Key West. There are many different types of places to stay - Resorts, Condos, Hotels, Inns & B&Bs. We've stayed the gamut. We love a good small B&B and I wish that the Eden House would break down and serve more than (now) coffee *all day now I think* and happy hour (5-6 ? last time) and break down and maybe tempt people by bringing in some of the island's best breakfast treats and call itself a big B&B already but, *ok* they are an INN. The reason we love B&Bs is the personal relationship they have with their guests. Period. Eden house is - by my definition - a b&b without the other b - a place dedicated to the people who stay here. This is why I consider this place a home away from home. I'd tell you my favorite room number but you might book it :). If you are expecting high scale posh rooms - don't. If you are expecting a mini bar and 1200 count sheets, look elsewhere. If you are looking to stay in a place that embraces the place that it is in - its surroundings, nature and otherwise, its heritage, people, art, culture, laid back attitude - then stay here. Its a place to Chill out and just be, not be a pampered poodle person. Talk to the staff and you'll learn things. Talk to the other guests and you'll make some friends. Be yourself here. Its a good place.

Honeymoon in Paradise
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/14/09
We've stayed in Key West four times previously, but since this was the wedding/honeymoon we decided to upgrade our lodgings. I booked Eden House solely on the reviews here at TripAdvisor, carefully reading the bad reviews as well as the good. We were not disappointed! We booked deluxe room (401) with a porch swing and found it was on the first floor right in front the jacuzzi and pool. (Initially I didn't like the first floor location, but I thoroughly enjoyed being so close to the action.) The staff also surprised us with champagne and glasses, I guess I let it slip we were getting married when I made my reservation. Very thoughtful staff here! The grounds are beautiful, and with hammocks all around, there are plenty of quiet places to nap, read or even work if you had to bring it. I also enjoyed hanging out with resident cat, Lobby, on the front porch. We even decided to stay another night and the front desk was able to keep us in the same room. I'm positive we will be back to celebrate our anniversary, and I cannot even fathom staying anywhere else. The Eden House truly is paradise.

my favorite hotel
By Anne, 4/6/09
We are so enchanted by this hotel. It has so much charm and the staff are lovely and so helpful. They all go out of there way to make sure you have everything you need. We started our day every morning by getting coffee from the lobby and taking it to a hammock under the palm trees. There were bikes right there at the hotel and it is a pleasant way to get around old town Key West or to the beach. In spite of the ease in getting around, I found it hard to pull myself away from the delightful pool area with the little waterfall, hot tub and hammocks. The free happy hour every afternoon by the pool was a great way to rest up before heading out to dinner and I really enjoyed meeting the other hotel guests too. One night we even stayed at the hotel and took advantage of their grill area (everything you need provided except the food!). Ever since our first visit we try to go twice a year. It is our favorite way to recharge our batteries! Our next visit is already planned. Wish we were there now. Don't miss this true taste of the real character of Key West!

There's good reason they call it "Eden"
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/6/09
We found Eden House almost by accident 10 years ago and have been going back ever since. We would NEVER stay anywhere else in our beloved home-away-from-home of KW. Clean, comfortable, laid back, convenient by bike and feet to everything we could possibly want... except we never want to leave poolside or the hammocks. Mike and Pasha and the rest of the staff have become like family to us. This is a wonderful place for couples who seek peace, quiet and a non-commercial resort feeling, We've met wonderful people from all around the world there. George Hillow and Judi Tull

Paradise found...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/3/09
Just returned from a very relaxing stay at the Eden House. It is located about 5 blocks from Duvall St so you are away from the noise and traffic. The staff at the hotel could not be nicer, always friendly with a ready smile. The room I stayed in was 501. It was right off the pool, was large with small kitchen area and big bathroom. Fans and air conditioners worked great. There was a porch on the pool side and also another porch on the other side of the room. This seems to be the place to go to just kick back and relax. No matter how many other people were there it always seemed so tranquil and quiet. I am already planning a return stay for next year!

Way overrated
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/7/08
This house seems to be suffering from a typical case of living on your past reviews, thus losing its drive to provide quality service and quality accommodations. It started with our arrival and receiving as our "welcome drink" a warm Milwaukee's Best straight from the box. Not a good sign. While understanding this is a Guest House, the Eden House's labeling of its rooms is disingenous at the least and borders on just false advertising. Trust me, a Large Deluxe Room has nothing large or deluxe to it. It's a very, very small room - barely enough to hold a Queen bed, night stand, TV stand and smallish bathroom. It has slat doors on both sides, the far side leading to lobby, the other to the outside balcony. The "Apartment" is smaller than a typical hotel room. And the Conch House is about the size of a typical hotel room -- But it has smaller guest rooms literally attached to it. Separated by nothing more than a slat door. The neighboring room literally ran the blow dryer for privacy when they want to "enjoy" some private time. Here's where the biggest problem lies -- don't go here if you intend to get any sleep. You won't. This is one of the loudest hotels I've ever been to. And the staff is the problem. The multiple employee doors and entrance doors in the lobby area are constantly opening and slamming -- and it literally shakes your second floor room. The irony is that the Eden House has a mandatory Quiet Period from 10 p.m. to 10 a.m. -- "if we can't hear you, we can't see you " is there motto between that time. The problem is employees are clearly exempt from this policy as they are the biggest noise makers in the joint -- particularly in the morning. The cleaning crew is up with the sun and that's when all the door slamming and loud talking and step climbing starts. Not to mention the 5 a.m. garbage collections. No exaggeration, my wife literally went out and bought ear plugs for herself to get some sleep. Arrogance really kicked in with the lead staff, particulary one young lady who does a better job flipping her lovely brown locks than serving as a gracious hostess. Hand in your keys and all my wife and I got was an "all right guys." No thank you. No how was your stay. No was everything alright. Just a quick brushoff. Left me with the clear conclusion that this place is living off its past reputation and clearly isn't even trying anymore. They're booked so they don't care what their customers think or how they're treated. I've traveled the world over - staying in places similar to Eden House and as grand as the nicest hotels. I've never been compelled to write a bad review. And I'm writing this one on behalf of six couples who all had the same experience. You can spend your money much better and wiser, not to mention more comfortably and enjoyably, in Key West than at the Eden House. Trust me -- you have lots of choices in Key West. This is way overrated and you can do much better for the price.

relaxing and friendly
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/10/07
We've stayed at the Eden House twice now and enjoyed our stay both times. We love that it is located within walking distance of the downtown area but rad enough away for quiet. The rooms are clean and the beds comfortable which is a luxury! The staff are friendly and helpful. Happy hour around the pool feels like old home week even if you don't know anyone at first. Our daughter came down with a bad cold while on our trip and the staff helped us locate the most easily accessible pharmacy and checked in with us to see how she was doing. We also got helpful and true to their word recommendations for restaurants which is always a bonus when on vacation. We will be back at the Eden House as soon as we can make it!

are you kidding me???
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/16/07
My wife and I stayed at the Eden House, after another place had overbooked us, THANK GOD THEY DID! We were treated better than we have ever been treated. Kathryn at the front desk was a ray of key west sunshine, recommending a great restaurant for dinner and answering all of our questions, like we were family. We felt we were in a tropical island paradise poolside. The rooms were very clean, and the rain shower head was pretty cool. It is walking distance to everything. I couldn't have been asked for a more enjoyable weekend. Thank you for helping us "waste away in margaritaviile."
