Marrero's Guest Mansion, Key West

We just got backed from this place and was a terrible place to stay. This place needs some heavey duty cleaning and some upgrading.

We have ben to Key West every year for the last 5 and wouldn't stay anywhere else. Great place John the owner makes you feel right at home and is a great host. The rooms are always clean and there is nothing like Happy Hour on the porch before going to see the sunset.

The location is excellent as it is one block from Duval and just about the middle of Duval making walking to all locations in Old Town easy. The continental breakfast is great on the front porch and the clothing optional area around the pool is great for all over tans.

My wife and I spent three nights at Marrero’s Guest Mansion, Key West, in early October 2007. Our host, John, was very friendly and had everything ready for us upon our arrival. Our room, #14 by the pool, was immaculate, and roomy. We utilized the small fridge that was in the room. The bathroom had a large shower. A ceiling fan was over the bed, and supplemented the AC quite well. We had no trouble sleeping at night. The room was cleaned each day. Alisha did a great job. The mansion was not at full occupancy, so we were able to see several of the other rooms. All were immaculate, and inviting. We would stay in any of them. A large deluxe continental breakfast was served each morning from 8 to 10:30. Plenty of fresh fruit, all kinds of breads and sweet rolls, cereal, coffee, juice, etc. John had a nice happy hour from 5:30 to 7:00 each evening, serving cocktails, wine, and beer. It is a nice time to see and meet the other guests. We followed several of John’s recommendations for food in Key West, and were not disappointed. The clothing optional pool was open 24 hours a day, a nice place to cool off when you return from Duval St. at 2am. There was an honor bar out by the pool, stocked with soft drinks, beer and water. Just write you name and amount on the clipboard, and settle with him on the last day. The ice machine was located in the pool area too. Parking is not easy to come by in Key West, but parking right behind the mansion in a large lot was $10 per day. It was worth it! We never moved our van once we parked it until we were ready to leave. The mansion is only ½ block from Duval St. Easy walking distance for most attractions, bars and restaurants. As I type this review, we are already planning a return trip in the spring..........John & Phyllis

This isn't the Hilton, so if that's what you're expecting, forget it. Personally, we much prefer this to the "chain" hotels which have taken over Key West. What it is is a wonderful Guest House, very comfortable, clean, and with a nice staff (John does a great job here). They are just a half block away (really) from Duval Street, near all the fun and action of Key West. We stayed in the pool cabana (a.k.a. "room 12"), which was small but very comfortable and clean. Plus it was steps away from the pool, which was great. The pool area is clothing-optional, and many people were working on eliminating their tan lines (c'mon...this is Key West...relax), so either be prepared to join in or at least don't be offended by it. Our only disappointment was that we didn't see the ghost (that's a separate story), but they say she's friendly, so if you do don't worry. Seriously, the place is great, the people wonderful, and you just can't come by a better location than this. We recommend it without any reservation and will certainly be back as soon as our schedule permits.
