Paradise Found

In 1983, during the week of the 4'th of July, a friend and I stumbled onto the Atlantic Shores on my first visit to the Keys. Our room was $45.00/ night!!! Of course, it costs more now, but I still hold fond memories of the following 16 consecutive vacations we spent at "The Shores". We used to sit on the pier all night, get drunk, and watch pink clouds drift by the Milky Way. Ah, mis-spent youth!
But now the pier closes at 11:00 pm, but if you ask the person working at the front desk if you can go out there for a while, they usually say yes. You'll just have to climb over the gate. I was asking one of the Conchs living nearby about the pier being closed at night and he told me there had been a robbery once, and they decided to close the pier after 11:00 pm sometime between the summers of '94 and '95.
The Shores is a short block away from Duval Street,
and you don't have to worry about driving to any of the bars. As long as you can crawl back to your room, you don't have to worry about making it back
(unless, that is, you get lost - LOL!!).
The decor is tropical Art Deco, and the grounds are filled with lush tropical foliage and the flowers are beautiful. And if you are lucky, you will be treated with the intoxicating scent of night blooming Jasmine.
For the most part, everyone there is very courteous and friendly, and has a very cool and open attitude towards everyone. The only time I have been treated rudely has been by shop keepers and an occasional bartender on Duval St; but NEVER by any of the people working at the resort.
But out on the pier the wind is always blowing, and it's like a little piece of Paradise. The Atlantic Shores will always be in my blood and in my soul. If
I ever win the lottery, I might be able to afford the gas to go back....
