We can not go back and stay any other place per our 9 year old grandaughter
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/20/08
This was the best place to stay that toped off our stay at the hotel and the trip to Washington for our Grandaughter Karissa. We wanted to take her somewhere on her Spring break from school that would be a lasting memory. The Hay Adams Hotel was just the thing for her and the people that run it made our stay for Karissa something she will remember for the rest of her life. She has check books from her library out and located where she stayed since she has been back. She took in the White house tour, a tour of the Capitol and the Arlington Cementery in the rain. She was very taken back and had lots to tell her class mates. We are close to 70 our selves and it was a wonderful memory for us and to take her. We did not have any knowledge of the hotel other than it was close to the White house. Boy did we enjoy our trip and the Hay Adams staff could not have been nicer. We will alway stay there and will recommend it to anyone going to Washington. Shirley and Scott McMahon

Terrible service!
By Claire, 2/11/07
I was planning a last-minute fun trip to the Hay-Adams with my mom, but she had to back out because of a medical emergency at home. When I called the hotel to explain and to cancel one of the two rooms I'd reserved, here's what happened: 1) The first person I reached responded to my long-distance call by saying that he didn't have time to talk to me, and could I please call back later. Never had that happen before at a hotel I was about to give $800, and it seemed particularly inappropriate given that - as I found out 10 mins later - there was a manager on duty who could have taken my call. 2) When I called back and explained my situation to the manager, he told me I'd have to pay full price for both rooms because of their 24 hour cancellation policy, which I'd missed by a few hours. When I explained that the reservations agent had made no mention of this policy (which I could have abided by, had I known), he told me he didn't believe me. The fact that I'd made the reservation only the day before and that they had plenty of available rooms, so it was unlikely I had taken away someone else's room, seemed to make no difference. It seems to me that this kind of situation is the test of good service. Will never make a reservation here again.

Pretentious
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/30/06
Thought that this would be a luxury hotel but was disappointed by primarily the management. Front desk staff were ok but the Restaurant Manager who I can only describe as " Blondie meets Attila the Hun" was rude, arrogant and obnoxious. Food was ordinary at best while the Concierge on duty indifferent to any questions. Attended a function the day prior and the Banquet staff were clumsy, and their maitre d' lacks the basic guest interaction skills based on an overheard conversation. Enough about their negative Dining facilities..the roof space has an amazing view and the room we had was ok. I wont be coming back as I felt that the managers have a very arrogant and unpleasant way of expressing their guest service.

Absolutely magnificent!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/31/06
Located across from the Whitehouse is was a great and well worth the price per night. I arrived late in the evening and was offered a bottle of Fuji water to take to my room. Upon reaching my room I was met with a pair of slippers and chocolate on the bed. The furnishings were absoluely without flaw. I felt like I was staying at a royal palace. The front desk staff were very helpful and I very much appreciate the complementary car service. I would definately stay here again.

The Ideal Hotel
By LisaG, 7/4/06
Our 4 night stay began as we were welcomed into the hotel by staff and checked-in within 5 minutes. From that point on every request we made was met by an attentive and gracious staff member, eager to personally see that our needs were met. The room was beautifully decorated and very spacious. The linens were very high quality and the bed was perfect. Robes were furnished, and there was nightly turn-down services. Aside from being in the best location in D.C., the hotel is a work of art in itself. Beautifully restored and immaculately maintained. If you atay here, you will NOT be disappointed.

Elegance & Class
By tlcndc, 6/30/06
I surprised my wife and kids with a nights stay at the Hay Adams for the 2005-2006 New Years. From the moment we arrived to our departure, the staff was the most professionally superior and courteous we have had the pleasure of meeting. I had specifically reserved a room over-looking the White House and was supposed to have an adjoining room for the kids. However, a slight booking error on the staff's part neglected to add the "adjoining" part. No problem! The manager himself got involved to "make it right" and upgraded us to an entire suite also over-looking the White House. While the accompanying adjoining room didn't have a White House view, our small kids could care less. Plus, being the professional in customer care that he was, and in respect to correcting their error, we were not charged for the second room and paid only the original room rate we'd booked in the first place! And the food! While the manager was arranging our accommodations, he arranged for us to get the prime seats in the restaurant with by the fireplace. From this key spot out one window is the White House and the "First Church" out the other. Fantastic! And as for the in-room delivered breakfast - oh my!!! The food was absolutely exquisite, naturally, and the orange juice definitely fresh squeezed. Now I'm not much of a drinker of American style coffee as I much prefer my Italian espresso However, Juan Valdez himself must have been brewing this coffee down in the kitchen! NEVER have I ever smelled and tasted American coffee like this EVER! As mentioned, from the beginning to the end an absolutely marvelous stay with supremely customer-oriented staff all dedicated to make your stay perfect! We will be definitely be back!

Better than the Lincoln Bedroom !
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/7/06
Classic elegance. One of the best I've stayed anywhere. Across from the White House...you'll see politicos & powerbrokers, US & foreign & lot's of nice people. Breakfast must be THE place to see & be seen in D.C. Worth the $$...a great experience.

Location and Elegance
By Nancy, 7/20/05
Great location and great place to see DC celebrities. The beds were very comfortable and it's so nice to open the windows and get fresh air! The staff were great with my small children, but we regret there is no pool! Great view of the White House. It would be great for a romantic getaway.

Mini-Elegance
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/12/05
This hotel situated across from the whitehouse is a great and luxurious hotel to stay at, but may cost some money. The lobby is very nice, it has oak paneling and antique furnishings. The concierge is very helpful, and you have a quick check-in. The rooms are absolutely beautiful. They make you feel at home and some have magnificant views of the WhiteHouse. On the otherhand, these rooms can be pricy, I would check for a good weekend rate. The bar has slow service, but the restraunt is great for breakfast. I hope you can find a good price, and have a great time.
