Capitol Hill Hotel, Washington

We stayed here August 31, 2009 for one night. It looks like the hotel was recently renovated. The lobby and our room were very nice and our room was spotless. Nice comfortable king pillow top, nice computer desk with comfortable chair, kitchenette, 27" LCD TV. Our room had a view of the Library of Congress. The bathroom was a little small, but was manageable and more importantly, it was very clean and recently renovated completely. This is a very nice area, with the Library across the street and Million dollar + townhouses, there is little worry of crime here. Restaurants are only a few blocks away. Breakfast was free and was average for a hotel; cereal, muffins, bagels, fruit, some pastries. One thing to remember is that on-street parking is only for two hours, and that is just for the night hours, I believe. Valet parking is $30/night so plan on that as part of your rate. We were very pleased with this hotel and would stay here again if we return to the city.

no parking...there was on street only, two hr limit. tv didnt work..desk personnel were not helpful carpet was worn out room was extremely overpriced bathroom was dirty not recommended for anyone poor.....dont stay there..ripoff..

It was my husband's 50th Birthday Celebration and I wanted to surprise him. Instead we got surprised! The the location was pretty good. Otherwise, it was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in and we are both travel agents! When we arrived at 4:30pm our room was not ready and we were moved to a room with noticeable plaster peeling from the walls, holes throughout the room and the bathroom tile was also peeling. The carpet and drapes were filthy! I had never seen anything like it. The drapes were so dirty I did not want to touch them. The AC was malfunctioning and the room was about 90 degrees. After several disappointments, my husband asked me to make the best of the room, since it was supposed to be a happy occasion. So, we asked for a fan. We never got it! Friday morning at 7:30am, we were awakened by a call from the front desk asking if we had seen a phone charger in the room that was not ours. We answered "no" and the clerk apologized for waking us and hung up. Five minutes later, the same clerk knocks on our door, despite the "Do Not Disturb" sign and our previous answer. My husband gets up, dresses and lets her in. She looks around and sees that there is no charger and mentions that the couple in the room before us moved out because of the AC and forgot their charger. To top it off, upon check in, several couples were in the lobby inquiring about parking. The desk clerk tells us that the garage is full and that there is no street parking. He nicely volunteers to help us find parking and conveniently forgets to mention the $28 daily parking fee. When we got the invoice we were shocked by the $56 fee. There were no signs or warning about the fee. The clerk was not dressed as a valet. We simply did not know. When we complained to management, our complaint was dismissed and we got the brush off. Finally fed up, we checked out early and cut our trip short. The next day I called the corporate office. Only then did I get a response from the hotel management. Although he reluctantly agreed to refund the parking fee, instead of apologizing, he insulted me. Unbelievably unprofessional! After all we had endured. I followed up with a letter to corporate. No response yet but it's only been 2 days. Though the rooms were $10-20 less than neighboring hotels, I would have gladly paid more for a clean room and an enjoyable experience. The place was filthy and seriously outdated. It's not the deal it sounds like and the rooms look nothing like the website shows. In this case, the saying holds true, "You Get What You Pay For".

we stayed during april for 3 nights. the room was spacious & clean. the breakfast was really nice. the neighborhood is so cute & safe. one block to metro & go everywhere-cheap. dont take a cab! Only 1 drawback was that the water in the shower kept going hot/cold! Would stay again.

My Congressman's office recommended this hotel and it was extremely convenient to the Metro, Capitol Hill, and restaurants. It was, however, a noisy hotel primarily due to the fact that our room was located in the hotel annex which previously was an apartment building. The floor above us was squeaky and the hall noise was pretty loud during busy times. It was clean and the staff was very nice but the hem was out of our draperies and the dust ruffles on the beds were always a mess. We had no heat but were compensated at checkout. The convenience outweighed the disappointments but I wouldn't stay there again for 5 nights. A few nights would be ok, but not for a lengthy stay.

Likes: Location of the hotel was fantastic; near the Capitol and one block from the Metro. The staff was very helpful and friendly. Continental breakfast was fine. Dislikes: Rooms need to be updated, especially the carpet which was stained and worn out. Bathroom was small but otherwise OK.

The staff was helpful, suite was spacious and comfortable. Maid service was timely and efficient. Breakfast was fine. But the location of this property helped make our vacation memorable and enjoyable.

IF you wanna stay at a nearby hotel to all Wachington DC attractions and sight-seeings, I recommend to you the capitol hill suites. Service is not premium, but they provide whatever is needed. Their team is friendly and very helpful. They have very very roomy rooms and nice furniture. Their breakfast is fine and energetic. They have a very good library and launge. One of their maine defficencys is the missing of the swimming pool.

This is the place to stay. Walking distance from the capital and metro. Rooms are spacious with dining facilities. Free breakfast. Good price. Friendly staff. What more could you want?

Loved being a block and a half from the Capitol Building and a block from the nearest Metro station (Capitol Hill South). Not only was it close to the Capitol Building but also to the Library of Congress, Supreme Court and the Mall. In the summer, it is an easy walk down to the mall and the Smithsonians as well as the National Arboretum. I would definately recomend this hotel to anyone who wants to go to DC and not waste time traveling by taxi or subway. Not to mention that several Members of Congress stay there on a weekly basis so you never know who you will run into.
