Mold
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/31/11
When my boyfriend and I traveled there this fall, we discovered mold in the bathroom and were unable to tell the front desk because they were so busy. At night, the doorman stood in the vestibule instead of opening the door for approaching guests. The bed was hard like a marble slab. On our second day of three days, the front desk worker confronted me in the lobby saying that we were supposed to have checked out at noon although we paid in advance for the three days. And when they finally came to clean the mold, the maintenance man just opened the door without knocking. When he saw me sitting on the bed he said "Oh, I thought you two were in the bar downstairs." Very classy.

More negative than positive features
By yinxuehui, 4/26/09
Went there in Oct 2008 with my boyfriend because he had won a national scholarship and the award ceremony was there. It was nice that the scholarship program paid for the room but i wouldn't personally go there again cuz the price is not worth the room, (then again, what isn't expensive in DC?) Dislike: closet space---barely enough to fit one person's clothings, not very spacious, old building needs renovation, we got placed on the highest floor and there were construction workers banging and knocking away when we woke up the next morning, elevator very slow and tiny, barely fits 4 adults Good: bed is big queen/king size, customer service was nice and helpful

Very Small Closet Space
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/3/09
*Dislikes- found hair on writing desk and trash behind the sitting chair, very small closet (you will not have enought space to place luggage unless you remove all the extra blankets and linen in there), lighting is not good for working at desk, and desk chair is uncomfortable *Likes -Location is near union station and other tourist sites *Unusual- Bed is very high

DO NOT GO!!!
By StephanieS, 8/5/08
I arrived at the Phoenix PArk Hotel on July 19 for an overnight stay. We were very excited about our stay. I had read the negative reviews but thought that I would give them the benfit of doubt and go ahead due to the great location of the hotel. I was so upset from the minute I checked in. The customer at the front desk is awful. We went to our room and the room was so hot I couldnt breathe. It was 100 degrees outside and the room was 115. We called and asked to have the air fixed or be moved. After about an hour the janitor came up and said he tried but it was hot in the room because of the temp outside. The room was so small, nothing like the pics we seen. The air was never fixed, we were never moved, the people in the room next door froze all night because the air wouldn't turn off. We woke up sweaty. They did bring a fan up for us, but it only ciculated hot air. When we checked out we asked why we weren't moved, they said they did all they could do for us and goodbye. I told them I was going to write a review and they said they didn't care. For what we paid for the room, we should have been living it up. Please be ware if you are going to stay here. You may want to stay in the winter when you wont need air conditioning. I will never go back here again.

Will never return
By Diana S, 4/27/07
The rooms are extremely small, the pictures on their website are misleading. The hotel looks luxurious on the pictures and is a dissapointing kick in the stomach when you actually see it in person. The hotel staff are quite nice but the staff in the Dubliner restaurant, which Phoenix Park Hotel owns, are an absolute nightmare, they all treat you horribly, if you are there with a group that has an agenda that they don't agree with, they treat you especially horribly, and when you complain to the manager, the manager sides with the staff. One of our guests was served the wrong beer and when he asked for the correct one, the waiter argued with him and when he brought him the right beer, he slammed it down to the point that some spilled on the guest. One manager told another guest that the staff was extremely upset that we were there because we were discussing political subjects that they did not agree with and that they did not want us there. This was an absolute nightmare. If you need to stay there and you have a political agenda, don't discuss it in front of them or you might have food thrown at you.

hotel is just ok
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/8/06
Hotel was ok. The pool area is great. It was a little noisy as kids were running up and down hall after 11pm. The location is ok. Restaurant buffet was ok but limited choices.

Old, needs renovation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/26/06
Rooms are old and needs some TLC/renovations. Some things in the room did not work. It is in a great location in DC, near the capital. For what you get in the room I found the cost to be a bit high.

Wedding Reception
By ombudsman, 9/26/05
What a wonderful place to have a wedding reception. The staff was amazingly helpful with planning the event and making sure everything was just as my wife wanted. Excellent food and a perfect layout for any medium to large reception. The bar located on the lower level of the hotel was perfect for guests to continue the festivities. I highly recommend this charming Irish island in the heart of D.C.

BROKE MY HEART TO LEAVE!!!
By Bethanne, 6/7/05
My boyfriend and I decided to take a weekend trip from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. I searched all over websites for a nice place that was close to the Amtrack Station to stay and was pleasently surprised!! This hotel is right down the street from the station and you can see it from the doors.. So it was easily accessable..Especially if you have a large amount of bags or kids. You will not have to pay money for a cab..A huge highlight!! We could walk to a couple of locations but the cabs are so cheap anyway in Washington, D.C. that it didn't break us if we felt like catching one. The Phoenix is an absolutely beautiful hotel, gorgeous rooms, amazingly comfortable beds, great conceirge service and friendly staff. Our room was very clean and the bathroom I would have had no problem to have eaten any meal off its floor. Expensive and High quality toiletries, an abundance of fresh towels and a stocked mini fridge. Seamus accidently spilled ketchup on his brand new white-shirt..We went to the Conceirge desk and they took care of it FREE of charge. They make you feel so comfortable and at home you can't help but never want to leave. We stayed an extra night because we enjoyed it so much...To top off their great hotel service, their restuarant is great!! The food was impeccable..I loved their Irish Soda Bread so much I bought a couple of loafs to take home with us...They are not over priced and I would pay any amount to stay there again. They are a hotel that all hotels should strive to be like! They are an exceptionaly great hotel!!
