Charming with a Great Location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/22/09
I'm surprised that people would give this hotel only 1 star. For the value and location, this is a great hotel! We stayed in early July, after the holiday weekend. We had a AAA rate of only $144 per night. Comparable hotels in the area were going for much more. We came at 9 in the morning to drop off our bags, not expecting to have a room so early. However, Morton at the front desk, was extremely helpful and courteous. He had a room ready so we could rest before our Capitol tour. He also provided us with a map of the area along with recommendations for the easiest way to get to the Capitol. Our room was pretty small, there's no doubt. We were on the 3rd floor on the corner. However, for the rate, we thought it was fine. The only other negative was that there was construction going on next door and they started at 6:30 in the morning the next morning. We were able to sleep through most of it, but if someone is a light sleeper, it could be bad. We didn't check out the restaurant on site, although we heard it was very nice. We used the small bar. Good service, pricey drinks. I think the best part was the location. Within walking distance to the White House. Walking distance to 3 Metro locations. My husband and I walked to the National Mall with no problem. It was probably a 20 minute walk or so. For the price, it is a charming, boutique-like hotel with good service and modest accommodations. You cannot expect a huge hotel in a location like this for the price.

Washington's Little Treasure
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/1/07
My husband and I stayed in the luxury suite and it was simply spectacular. Elegant, refined and flawlessly decorated. Not to mention the beautiful dining room. We felt like royalty and were treated as such. We were in town for a funeral and chose Henley Park because of the value and lovely website, but the room and service exceded our expectations! Would highly recommend. Better than the Four Seasons without the price tag.

Cockroach Hotel
By Jeremy, 7/5/06
The Henley Park Hotel was far from the 4 and 5 star ratings that I have been reading. My hotel room was on the 8th floor. It was very small and tight. The room was at a chilling 60 degrees, so my girlfriend decided to change it to 70. Instead of turning off, the AC blows warm air in order to make the room 72 degrees. Along with the warm air came the smell of burning hair. I don't know how, maybe there was a rat in the vents, I wouldn't be surprised. The first morning after we slept, my girlfriend and I started to get ready in the bathroom. What came from behind the mirror? A cockroach ladies and gentelemen, a cockroach. The cockroach climbed all over the toothbrushes, retainers, everything. After spraying the cockroach with shaving cream, it ran back behind the mirror in the bathroom. After complaining to the front desk, we were upgraded to a Junior Suite on the 7th floor. After moving into that room, it was also cold, so we made the room 70 degrees. Again, hot air started to blow out of the vent, and again it smelled like burning hair. I was amazed to see how crappy they treat their low cost rooms. The shower in the first room had a moldy shower head, bath tub had no grips. The shower in the suite had a new a shower head, and grips in the bath tub. The junior suite was as big as regular rooms at the double tree, hyatt, hiltons, etc. The bathrooms in both rooms have absolutely no good form of ventilation. When you turn on the light, a vent opens up on the wall. There isnt even a fan to expedite the venting process, just a vent that opens. Upon checking out, I expected to received at least a one night discount due to the problems with a cockroach and having to pack all our things to move to another room, but we received no discount. All in all, I wish I would have spent an extra 25 dollars a night for a nicer, cleaner, name brand hotel. Cheaper isn't always better.

An interesting oasis
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/18/05
This is a beautiful hotel,if you like old pre-war buildings. The building was previously an apartment house and it has been converted in a top notch manner. The service staff is quite pleasant and very attentive. The service in the restaurant at dinnertime is impeccable and the food is absolutely superb. The meats were cooked to perfection based on how you requested them prepared. The live jazz sessions were excellent and the quartet was superb. The only negative aspect to my two day stay at this establishment was breakfast on Saturday morning. The service in Denny's or Bobs Big Boy would have been superior. The morning staff was absolutely inefficient and disorganized. The tables were not prepared. We had to wait for silverware and napkins while our breakfast got cold.Coffee was served without any creamer or milk, and again this got cold waiting for the waiter to return.Guest's were not served in the order in which they arrived. Some guest's waited for their order to be taken while others who arrived later were served. All in all this experience was extremely disheartening based on the superb manner in which this restaurant serves it dinner patrons. PLEASE ! PLEASE ! educate your morning staff. They do you an injustice.

Excellent Upscale Value
By Melvin, 6/20/05
I really liked the location. The building architecture is a site to see. I also liked the valet parking and the polite mannerisms of the attendents. After viewing the parking area, I was relieved that my new car was secure. In other words the parking is worth the money. I also enjoyed the quality of jazz entertainment offered in the hotel dining and bar area. I had the pleasure of enjoying a excellent female vocalist, Michelle Walker and her accompanyment. I have stayed in a plethora of upscale hotels, however I would much prefer this one overall. The rooms are very well prepared, adequately cleaned with a stocked refrigerator and a safe for your valuable posessions. This hotel is tucked away on a nice quiet corner and when you drive into the driveway which is emaculately kept, you feel at home. There is so much good that I couldn't find anything that I disliked about this hotel.

Needs to fade away
By cr8it, 5/3/05
My assistant was told the hotel had been renovated - lie (2 floors were 2 years ago). The carpets were stained, the walls were water damaged. The room had no desk and drawers that would collapes when opened. This is a faded grand dame that should fade away (or be purchased by someone with deep pockets willing to invest the money into making it nice.

Great service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/6/04
Stayed 1 night in DC on business, really enjoyed the outstanding service and charming decor of the lobby and downstairs. The room itself was nice, clean and just a little bit shabby-- frayed cushions on chairs, etc. Rooms are small too. Overall, a pleasant experience for the low price and plenty more charm and character than a typical chain hotel.
