Bad Reviews are out dated! Amazing Hotel!
By ambi, 06/27/08
The gold star inn has been completely renovated since these these bad reivews have been posted. Me and My boyfriend chose this hotel because of the military discount. With the price of 75$ a night I prepared for the worst. But was amazed! You will get the best night of sleep ever with there plush king size beds. Breakfast is excellent with wide veriaty. Staff was so helpfull and trusting when we had problems with our bank acount. Great spa with tanning, clean pool and hot tub. We are staying here in July for the third time. Do yourself a favor, pay the extra 10$ for the goldstar instead of going to the super 8! You wont regret it!

enjoyable stay
By STEVE S, 10/05/07
Allthough undergoing some renovations and new management ( I think ) the staff here was very friendly and helpfull. Good variety at breakfast, room was very clean but had a strange odor, this may have been a smoking room at one time and the cigar smell allthough mild was still present.Bed was very comforbitable nice indoor pool in basement water was a bit green though, ample parking , no fitness center. Indian restraunt on premise that smelled wonderfull and 24 hr diner across street, very close to mystic . All in all a pleasent stay , would stay here again

What a great place to stay!
By Cambridge, MA woman, 08/26/07
I had a wonderful experience in August 2007, and felt compelled to add to these reviews, the rest of which are several years old. The hotel was totally sold out the night I stayed, and yet the service was excellent. I am a 55 year old woman who was there by myself, and the cleanliness of the facilities met my fussy standards. In fact, they exceeded my expectations, and were much superior to another hotel I recently stayed in in Mystic that cost $80 more per night! There is an all-night diner and a delicious Indian restaurant right next to the property that you can just walk over to. There were lots of families with kids staying when I was there, and some people with dogs in another part of the hotel, but all was quiet and peaceful in my room. I did not use the pool (not my thing). I would stay there again any time I have to be in Groton on business. I give it my highest recommendation!

How could this be rated 3 stars?
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/07/07
This hotel was a shock. The daily rate was over $125. and its rated 3 stars by someone. The room was poor. The door locks did not open and everytime we needed to get in, we needed to get someone from housekeeping. He was very accomodating and would not accept a tip at the end of our stay. The bathroom door would not shut and the bathroom was dirty. The air conditioner was overtaxed and loud. The beds were comfortable and the sheets felt good, but the room did not inspire. The poor TV had an unacceptable sound differential. It would alternte between too loud and too soft. That was only after the remote needed reprograming to work. I was glad we got a travel discount but Clarion should not be proud to have this hotel as part of their "collection" in spite of the pleasant staff!!

Stay Away from here!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/10/05
The hotel was dirty, needed updating, and completely in need of total renovation. The pool was unusable, as was the jacuzzi (brown and littered w/ beer cans). We were woken by drunken guests screaming and running down the hallway when the bar closed.I complained, but was pretty much ignored by both the manager and the headquarters. This nasty hotel ruined our weekend.

Stay Somewhere Else
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/29/05
From the careless service at the front desk to the filthy rooms, this place should be charging about 40 bucks a night at the most. As others have mentioned, the carpet was stained as well as some of the furniture. Everything looked dingy and was in need of either some better cleaning or renovations. I would categorize this as more of a motor lodge as the whole area looked a bit skanky.

Stains on my pillow
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 02/21/05
I just recently stayed at the hotel for the weekend. And let me tell you,do not beleive what you see especailly the pool. I stayed right by it and it ain't what the pic shows. My room had stains all over the rugs. A big hole was in the blanet on the bed. A shower head that was proberly been there since it has opened. And when I went got more pillows, one of them had tons of stains on it ( they ran out of pillow sheets ). It was pretty nasty and gross. The next day we left and no one had come to clean the room or bring fresh towels to the room. We called to get some new towels and no one showed up to bring us more. The pool is only 3 1/2 Ft deep and dosen't look close as what the pic. shows and the jaguzzi wasn't working either. Well good luck if deciding to stay here it's one of the baddest places ive been. the breakfest was a joke too

Another Dissatisfied Customer
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/23/04
We stayed at this hotel just to getaway for a night, Based on the price that a web site gave us and the amemties that were "said" to be availiable we thought it would be more upscale than it was. The room and hotel were very outdated, the room needed through cleaning and so did the halls, The owners were rude and Even the restaurant staff told us that the owners laid off all the restaurant staff and the restaurant was closing, there goes the onsite restaurant we looked for. The pool and jacuzzi looked dirty and room service HA HA HA---We decided to go with pizza hut. The pillows were cheap and the bed very hard and uncomfortable. Our room was worth 1/2 of what we paid. I felt like this hotel was a cheap subpar operation. The internet websites and pictures are VERY misleading. DONT STAY HERE, spend your money at a better place. I WOULD NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN!!!!

very deceiving.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/12/04
I was a recent customer at this Clarion Inn in Groton Ct. and I would not recommend it. When we arrive we inquire about the breakfast. We made reservation through cheaptickets. com. We were not told that the contineNtal breakfast is only served during the week. So we had to paid for breakfast Saturday and Sunday in the restaurant located on the site. Also our room was clean but the air conditioner was not working the first day. The second day we call and no one came to fix it. We call again after we arrive to the hotel and they brougt us a fan. So the next day they offer us a new room with a working air conditioner. I recommend you also check your bill before you sign. I notice the price was higher than cheapticket offered. THIS IS MY SECOND BAD EXPERIENCE WITH CLARION INN HOTEl. I WILL NEVER USE THEM AGAIN.
