Good location...but could be better.
By Visitor, 07/22/09
Went to mystic about a week ago,and this hotel looked as if it had a great location. Disappointed in the pool, they make it seem bigger in the pic,but its small. One thing I hated was the size of the waste baskets. You couldn't put 3 paper plates in them. Room service comes by pretty early, but don't worry the thin walls and the neighbors staying next door will wake you up in NO TIME!!!

NEVER AGAIN - BUG IN BED
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/25/09
I was on an overnight with my three kids, 12,11,8, while my husband was back at work at home. We checked in as the internet was giving the rooms away for next to nothing, but it was so gross we should have left after getting our room, facing the highway and with a really dirty shower with rusted bolts and dust or soap scum all over the tub. The wall paper did a bad job of hiding wet wall problems around the tub and sink. We went to bed and woke up with one of the kids still asleep and I asked my 8 year to come cuddle. She climbed in the bed I slept in and squeeled that there were bugs on the pillow and on the sheet. We turned on the light and there they were - about 15 wiggly bugs that were clear/brownish with a small pointy tail. They were less then 1/8 inch long and my son then started picking them up in a tissue and flushing them. We called room service and reported bed bugs and when the GM arrived she assured us they weren't bed bugs but had probably crawled in through the ventilation system. UGH! They comp'd the room and gave us another equally dirty room to shower and get out of there. Do not stay here as there are other hotels in the area that exterially look newer and worth aa try. Also, everything is CLOSED in Mystic except the aquarium which the Mystic website failed to mention. I expected some seasonal closures but thought with spring breaks from schools starting up there would be some action. Nope. Good luck with you stay but skip Ho Jo's.

Nice place Great Location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/24/09
The location was great, you can walk to the Aquarium and Seaport. The rooms are clean and large. Very accomodating staff. Great place for the price

It served its purpose
By Warwick Resident, 08/01/08
Location was good - close to everything and easy off the highway (although we did have to run the fan to drown out the traffic noise) Clean enough, nothing fancy. Needs some updating, but not horrible. Bad points - the bed, everything about the bed! Hard as a rock, the floor was probably softer! If you like a firm bed, your good. I woke up with a back ache! Also, the bed was made with two flat sheets instead of a flat sheet and fitted sheet. The desk clerk said that they had run out of fitted sheets and placed an order for more. Lame! With some tossing and turning, it didn't take long before I was sleeping on bare mattress - which is gross considering its a "public" bed.

Nice cheap Place, very friendly!
By RL, 05/24/08
If you are looking for something extravagant, then this isn't the place for you. But if you are looking for something cheap, comfortable, clean, and nice then come here by all means. My boyfriend and I really liked it here. As college students coming all the way from Providence, RI and walking everywhere, this was a nice place that was very comfortable and had a friendly hassle-free service. The cleaning service is excellent and the surround restaurants and attractions were very close (the aquarium is right across the street as well as the Mystic village). The rooms are great, for the price. The TV is big and not old and crummy like other cheap places, the beds are VERY comfortable, the tables are cleans, the bathrooms are clean, and there is a pool that is open for you to enjoy and big enough. I really liked it there, personally. There is one post before me about bugs but that was probably because of the time of the year and the fact that Mystic is right by the sea. THAT WAS A ONE TIME THING. Believe me. Please don't let that post scare you off from a very affordable and nice place.

Worse Place Ever!
By Brookfield, CT, 05/17/08
This is the worse place I've ever stayed. The rooms are run down, the hotel is right next to the highway, the walls are paper thin and the staff was not accomodating. We went here because I thought the pool would be nice for my 3 kids, but the photos of the pool online are not only deceiving, but the clorine was so strong we couldn't even stay. Good luck if you should to stay at this hotel!

Good value for the price
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/28/07
I stayed one night at the hotel and found it to be nothing special, but acceptable. Lots of hot water in bath, room was large and very clean (although there was some initial confusion behind the desk as to what rooms were ready and what rooms were not _ arrived at 3:00 and had to wait until 4:00). Security was good - swipe card entrance only for hallway entrance access, double locks on room doors. The best thing about this hotel was the staff. The two women behind the desk were sincere and friendly. I specified a room on the second floor, facing the parking lot (rather than noisy highway) and got it, along with a surprise king size bed and a more spacious room for the same price. Negatively, the hotel is rather lifeless - a building plopped down in the middle of a parking lot along with lots of other hotels. The halls were depressing and humid (possibly from the very clean and bright indoor pool).

PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/16/07
MY FAMILY ARRIVED AT THE HOWARD JOHNSONS HOTEL FRIDAY JULY 13. WHEN I ARRIVED AND CHECKED IN WE WENT TO OUT ROOM THAT I WAS PAYING $200 A NIGHT FOR. AS SOON AS I WALKED IN THE MILDEW SMELL WAS OVERPOWERING. THAT I CAN DEAL WITH, NEXT CAME THE SPIDER WEBS A THE 1" DUST ON THE FURNITURE. I WAS VERY UNHAPPY BUT WE WERE THERE TO HAVE A NICE WEEKEND WITH OUR CHILDREN SO I WAS GOING TO STICK IT OUT. MY HUSBAND LEFT TO GET THE LUGGAGE AND LOCKED HIMSELF OUT OF THE ROOM SO HE KNOCKED ON THE GLASS SLIDING DOORS WHICH LED OUT TO A SITTING AREA OUTSIDE. WHEN MY SON PULLED THE HANGING CURTAINS TO SEE WHO WAS AT THE DOOR WE SAW BUG SCURRYING AROUND O MY GOD THERE WAS ROACHES IN THE CURTAINS I FREAKED. I CALLED THE FRONT DESK TO TELL THEM WHAT I HAD FOUND. THE WOMAN WAS INSISTING THEY DID NOT HAVE ROACHES, SO I TOLD HER TO SEND SOMEONE TO THE ROOM TO SEE THEM. THE MAN CAME AND CONFIMED WHAT I SAW. WE LEFT.

Great Location!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/30/06
My family and I went to Mystic for just one night on Memorial Day weekend. Our plan was to go to the aquarium during the day and just relax by the pool at night. LOCATION IS A PLUS!!!! The convenience of having the aquarium directly across the street along with the Mystic Village Shops and the Steak Loft restaurant was great. Friendlys was also a plus. Great service and clean. Just leave your car and walk. I was disappointed when I checked in and was told that I might not have a balcony room. My husband likes to smoke and I told the woman I needed the balcony because we didn't want smoke in our room. I was told she would try. An hour after I checked in I did receive a phone call to make sure I was happy with my room. I didn't end up with my balcony but it was fine because we had a slider and he smoked outside. I did like the convience of the beautiful pool being on the first floor. The pool was clean. The rooms seemed to have been remodeled and up to date. The hallways smelled a bit. We had a few ants in our bathroom but when we left I was asked if I enjoyed my stay. When I brought up the 4 or 5 ants, my bill was discounted $30.00 The only other disappointment was that the bar closed at 9:00 p.m. on the holiday weekend. We have teens who are able to stay by themselves and were watching T.V. and we thought we could have a drink. We did but were told they were closing at 9:00 p.m. NOT ON MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND!!!! Overall our stay was fine and the convenience of the shops, restaurants, and aquarium were great. The aquarium was too crowded but we made the best of it. We would go back.

I dont think I would ever go back
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/13/06
I was not very pleased with the overall service. Also, I paid for a jacuzzi room under the impression it was a nice actual jacuzzie and it was not. It was in the bathroom, it was an oversized tub with a shower head above. It was not worth it for the price I paid. I would not stay there again.
