Unsanitary, old, and not worth the money
The Wiesbaden makes a HUGE deal about being a "Healthy" spa - i.e. no one who smokes or has smoked in the past three months may stay there due to clients 'allergies and other health issues'. Yet the room (#9 outside) we stayed in, had large shiny and stained yellow ceiling tiles, very old worn carpet with an unstable floor underneath, and the open bathroom window's screen was knocked out onto the roof covered with last yrs old dried up leaves. I started having an inkling I might have overpaid for this night's stay. The $157 a night fee, and pictures posted on their website, did not prepare me for these accommodations.
We awoke in the middle of the night to a loud shuffling in the ceiling near the corner of the room. I stayed awake for hours worrying but finally fell back asleep only to reawaken horrified, to the heavy shuffling now above our heads. All I could think of was (rat?) feces and urine sifting through the ceiling tiles onto our faces. No more sleep for us. We notified the front desk and were told if we were staying another night, that next night would be a comp. We weren't interested. Then we were told the owner would contact us. She did, but it took her 3 days. During that conversation, she admitted there was a prior problem with a 'raccoon' getting in above that room and #10's, but said it had been taken care of (obviously not) and also said she was replacing those stained ceiling tiles but insisted they were from a water leak (we couldn't believe that but didn't expect her to admit the rat/raccoon urine). I brought up the spa's 'health conscious' advertising and asked how they could allow even 1 of their room's cleanliness to slip like that.
The owner started off offering a week's comp stay but then later on in the conversation, found out we live on the east coast, and the offer changed to 2 off-season nights between a Sunday and Thursday. It has been 3 WEEKS since that conversation and we are still waiting to see an envelope with any offer/compensation arrive.
The outside gardens and pool area were clean and kept up, and the hot spring underneath the spa was interesting to experience for the few minutes one could sit in that heat, but you can pay a small amount to use those facilities without having to stay.
Also - the tv in our tiny room was a 13" and from the 60's, the mattress was old and uncomfortable, and the walls were thin.
