Never Again
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/31/09
Rooms were too high and the cooling system didn't work. Service in the Diamond Belle was not good.

Location, location, location
By Penny, 01/01/08
We just got back (12/31/07) from Durango and the Strater Htl. This place is definitely "historic". We had a reasonably sized room, queen bed and full bath. Continental breakfast each morning got us up and ready to ski Purgatory. The Strater is old and has old hotel problems, but all in all we had a great place to rest our heads. One boiler was out of service and we were asked to avoid "peak" water use times. The floors creak, strange noises, etc. I'm really disappointed that I did not experience any of the alleged ghosts. The hotel is smack in the middle of the places to be in Durango for restaurants/cocktails. I recommend it.

It is a visit I will never forget!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/07/07
I have gone to Durango for over 20 something years and stayed at Hermosa Camp Ground. A bunch of girls decided to have a week out and we chose the Strater. The food was wonderful, service was great and the rooms were just beautiful..What a memory I will always have..We stayed back in the late 1990's.

Wonderful historic hotel!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/16/07
My husband and I stayed for our 5 year ainniversary. The Strater is a beautiful hotel. All of the antiques give the hotel and rooms a warm comfortable feeling. The beds are comfortable and the hotel is quiet. Be sure not to miss out on the private hot tub the hotel offers! The hotel is within walking distance to the train depot, which was great after a cold wet day on the train!

Great find!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/27/07
We did not have a reservation but were able to stay in one of the beautiful rooms. There is a photo op everywhere you look in this hotel. Beautiful! Quiet, clean, comfortable and friendly as well. One of the highlights of our trip to CO was staying here.

We loved this place!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/18/07
The Strater Hotel is a wonderful place to stay. It is beautiful both inside and out. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The food is top notch and the bars are a blast. I especially appreciated the dedicated motorcycle parking. I accidently left my wallet in my room after checking out, and the staff found it and sent it to me overnight. The location is perfect!

I wouldn't stay in any other hotel in Durango!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 06/01/07
Great service, beautiful architecture, lovely furniture, quaint saloon next door, good food, nice vaudeville ambiance! I would recommend this hotel to any newcomer to Durango, for certain!

One of our favorite places
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/15/06
The Strater is really a nice hotel--old doesn't mean dirty or unkempt. We have been back multiple times, and are greeted as if they know us. The rooms are historically important--we have stayed in Samuel Clemens and Will Rogers rooms-- Beds are comfy and there is a perfect room for anyone--lots of choices. They are great with special requests, and the bar downstairs is one of the local hotspots. In winter, the best place to sit in front of the fireplace and watch the snow fall. Rates are reasonable, and if you tell them what you can afford, they are really helpful finding you a room. We are locals (Farmington) and we know the scoop about this place! We wouldn't stay anywhere else--walking distance to all the places to see and shop and EAT downtown--

Very romantic hotel!
By ~*Sweet Pea*~, 07/12/06
My husband I stayed at the Strater Hotel for our two year anniversary. We both liked the romantic vibe the whole hotel had. The room was very comfortable, neat, and clean. We are going to make plans to stay at the hotel again soon.

Serenity
By jonathan h, 08/19/05
Every room had its own ambience. I would stay there when not working in Farmington and most often never left the room. I stayed during the Winter months 5 times. At 75.00-105.00 a night it was a bargain. You can pay a similar amount for a dump. And the restaurant is exceptional.
