Bad facilities, rude service
I have been staying with travel lodge since the mid 1950s. My recent stay in Berkeley was very unpleasant. The room was just barely acceptable, the carpet was very dirty. This alone we could live with. But, after we checked in I could not phone out (dialing 9 gave me a busy tone). I phoned the office and ask them to unblock it. After a few minutes I tired again without success. I needed information about local transport. We left the hotel and returned in the evening. I tried again. Phoned the operator again, she said she would look at my phone again. Still no luck. I asked her to place a local call for me, begrudgingly she agreed and connected me. The next morning at about 7 a.m. I tried to phone out again. Still no luck. I phoned the office and informed them that my phone was still blocked and would she please place another local call for me. A sleepy and very irate person informed me that my phone was not blocked. I ask again if she would make a local call for me. Again begrudgingly she agreed. She ask me to hang up and she would connect me. I waited and nothing happened. After 5 minutes I phoned the office again and ask if she had managed to reach the number I asked for. She said yes and she had passed it through to my room. I said the phone didnt ring and could she please try again. At that point she said youll have to come to the office!
This has left a very unfavorable taste in my mouth. Dirty carpets or equipment failure is not unusual in a motel, but impolite and uncooperative employees are really hard to accept when you are already burdened with the rigorous of traveling.
I posted two notes to the Travelodge web site and ask for some redress and did not even get an answer.
I will certainly never stay again with Travelodge.
