10 reviews for 1929 Sandpiper Inn by-the-Sea B & B, Carmel
A Great Place to Stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/18/08
My husband and I enjoyed our stay at the Sandpiper Inn. It is old-ish, but most importantly it's clean. We loved the breakfast! Delicious food and personable service. It's a nice location- close to the sea and it's nice to walk around and look at the neighboring houses. I recommend it!

Poor service, out of date and overpriced
By Paul, 08/16/07
The service here was very poor and at one point was extremely rude. My wife and I stayed here, adults only, so we were not thrown out, but I am not surprised by that experience encountered by others. Now the complaints: First, the front desk person was minimally helpful and not really rude, but only did what was required (almost). But, she failed to tell use one thing - the front door key is not the same as the room key. We came in late, were unable to determine how to get in and rang the night person. The night person was UNBELIEVABLY rude. He made me feel like an idiot for not knowing what the correct key was and stormed off after telling me off. This in my mind is inexcusable. I could half way understand if it was the middle of the night, but it was only 10:30. Also, the place is very out of date in the interior. I noticed that it says 1929 in the name, and believe you me this place has does not appear to have been updated since then, or most of it is still at lest 50 years old. From the outside it looks like an old apartment building and the fixtures and interior details are old and run down. Also, be sure to use the deadbolt! The ancient door can open easily when locked! This is all very unacceptable at these prices! It seems that the other high reviews overlook this because it’s Carmel and close to the ocean, but I can’t. If this was Motel 6 I may not mind, but this is supposed to be some special B&B and they charge like it! The only pluses where a comfortable bed and view of ocean, albeit in the distance, and the breakfast was pretty good, seemed homemade. BUT, I have done much better elsewhere (not Carmel) for the price.

by the sea by the sea by the beautiful sea!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/21/07
Quaint inn just 1/2 block from the beach. Cozy rooms, sweet service, clean, very accomodating and quite reasonably priced. Slept like a baby! Also walk in for $125 per night no matter what room as available. I cannot wait to go back! Ahhhhhhhh!

Family Friendly B & B with 5 star service
By ANDY, 04/02/07
The Sandpiper Inn was first class when it came to their service for my family. With proper notice, they were very accomidating for my wife and I, and our two 14 month old children. We called ahead and they were terrific, especially Bill the owner, who helped our weekend become very memorable. They put us in a beautiful room, which was away from the other guests, so our children didn't disturb anyone... Just add a very short walk to the beach (1 short block) and you can enjoy beautiful Carmel. I will not hesitate to recommend anyone to stay there. Just call ahead if you have kids, it is that simple....

Best Kept Secret in Carmel!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/05/07
Having read the previous reviews some bad but mostly well above average, I can only say that in the 20 years we have been coming to the Sandpiper Inn we've been quite pleased and satisfied. We always have great service and courteous attention and Bill and the staff have been great. It's true about young children though. It's a place for adults to get away and be romantic. For the price and close proximity to the beach, the Sandpiper is still the best kept secret in the area but we continue to share this with our friends and relatives.

Clean quaint charming
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/13/07
I have no complaints. We arrived on the day of 80 mile hour winds and were greeted by a nice young man. It's a charming home away from home feeling along with the feeling of a European pension. The tea and treats were delicious as is the breakfast complete with a choice of homemade croisants. We will definitely return! Although it was a bit cold due to the weather, once we asked for more heat, we were instantly accommodated.

Great get-away to hear ocean with adults!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/28/05
I deliberately wanted an adult get-away with my girlfriends and this was it. I loved being able to hear the ocean all night. It is not geared for families with children or pets. There are plenty of other places for those types of vacations. This was perfect for a woman's retreat or romantic get-away. Quaint rooms, cozy and small but comfortable. Nice, filling breakfasts and helpful staff. The best part was being one block away from the ocean and hearing the waves crash all night! It is hard to find places in Carmel/Monterey with this kind of location that offers easy beach access without highway 1 noise.

The worst customer service ever!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/29/05
My wife and I tried to stay there last weekend with our 8 month old. We made the reservation on the website. The good news was they informed us that infants could not sleep in the bed with parents so we brought a portable unit. After we checked in and got our baby into his PJ's for bed, the rude lady from the front desk knocked on the door and said they had to charge us $25 for the baby. My wife refused, explained the process we went through on the website and asked to speak to the manager. The manager came in acusing us of decieving them by not telling them we had a child and threw us out on the spot. On our way out I offered to show how their website was the reason they were surprised by our arriving with a child. Her response you won't believe..."their's the door and give me those keys". Sandpiper Inn disapoints!

Will never return
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/29/05
I want to relay this review to anyone who may consider staying at the Sandpiper. In a word, Don't! After being checked in for hours, they came to our room and very hostily told us to leave. They claimed that we didn't inform them when we made our reservations that we had a 8mo. old. Who made not a peep! We did include him in the reservation, there must have been some problem with their web site. We had to find another place to stay on a Friday of Easter weekend! They did not handle it well and came at us with a huge amount of hostility,as if we meant to deceive them. Expremely poor customer service! It is only an average place to stay when you consider all the other options.
