In 1985, the Clocktower Inn was created from the existing structure of a historic 1940s California-Spanish-style firehouse and Clocktower. The main hall of the firehouse was transformed into a comfortable lobby with fiber wall hangings, original art, beamed ceilings, handsome wood furnishings, and a large fireplace. The inn offers complimentary breakfast, same-day dry cleaning, free local calls, fax, and check cashing. Front desk representatives are always on hand to offer information regarding dinner reservations, local entertainment, recreational activities, shopping, and scenic tours. The inn also has meeting facilities. Located in the heart of historic downtown Ventura in a beautiful park setting, the inn is adjacent to Mission San Buenaventura and the Historical Museum. The state beach, restaurants, antique shops, boutiques, and county fairgrounds are all within easy walking distance. Ventura Harbor and Ventura College are three miles away. Downtown Los Angeles is 60 miles away. Each room has air-conditioning, cable television with HBO, coffeemaker, computer modem hookup, and radio.

HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE

My sisters wedding reception was to be held at this hotel however 3 weeks before the wedding we were notified that the sales manager we had the agreement with was no longer employed there and that the agreement we reached with her would not be honored because he felt she undercharged us. The new manager informed us the new price would be 3x's the original price and if we did not pay the new price he would be forced to cancel the reception. Which was in fact what ended up happening! We are pursing legal action. I WARN ANYONE WHO WANTS TO STAY HERE THIS PLACE IS DISHONEST AND HEARTLESS. DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY AT THIS PLACE!

A great place to NOT sleep or conduct business!

Although the hotel is quaint looking, the amenities are nothing as described. The management is horrid. There is a disco attached to the front of the hotel and another one right next door that play extremely loud music until 2:00 am. There is no swimming pool. The hot tub is open all night. We were woken up at 4:00 am by people talking in the tub. The so called free high-speed internet is a public service which has such a weak signal that no one can connect. The atrium smelled musky and that was where they held the free "healthy" continental breakfast which consisted of packaged sweet rolls, white bagels or toast, some fructose sweetened yogurt, bananas, apples but no fruit juice. The price is way too much for this place and I would never stay here again nor recommend it to anyone. We were also told we were getting a discounted rate for the conference we were attending but it seems they were lying!

lacking in customer service

The staff needs training in customer service the food was not covered and they had no serving tongs or spoons people they ran out of food half way thru the breakfast.

Nothing is more irritatng, than to come back from my Ventura vacation and to find out the hotel charged me twice!! Hotel management did very little to help revolve this overcharge issue!

We Loved It!

The service was great and the staff both friendly and helpful. A free breakfast, along with wine & cheese in the evening was a surprise. It didn't feel like a hotel, but rather a spanish home. The courtyard, an atrium, was pleasant to just sit and enjoy the weather, read or conversations.

Disappointing

I had a mandated stay here and while the place has a certain level of charm, the halls and my room was musty and the bathtub gave me the willies. There was a drainage problem when I took a shower and some black stuff that had backed up into the tub. While attending the function that I was there for, there was alot of noise due to a *nighclub* being right next to the inn. Further, the conference room we were in was very stuff and there were flyes all over the room. The location is great near downtown and attractions but I would not stay there again given the choice.

You can find better

Not much positive to say about this hotel. It certainly does not deserve its 3 stars given by most sites. I went thru Hotwire, so I did not intentionally pick it. I certainly would have been suspect of a $80 3-star hotel. The high-speed internet access is by request--they turn it on when you ask and charge $8 per night. I requested it, then requested again when they had not turned it on in 20 minutes. The rooms did not come with ethernet cords. The rooms are dark and walls are dirty. The sink did not drain because the plunger was smashed down. The windows were not well sealed, so you could hear most outside nice. The carpets were spotted and in need of cleaning. Despite advertising as such, rooms do not have irons/ironing boards in them. Pressing the Front Desk/Wake-up call button on the phone gets you no where. The first time I tried, it rang over 10 times before I hung up. Pressing "0" yielded better results. On the plus side, it is walking distance to the beach (across the freeway), and most downtown attractions.
