Stove Pipe Wells Village, Death Valley

No phones in the rooms to call friends in other rooms, no wake up calls, no toilet brush or air freshner! Pretty basic really.

The first thing you see in the room is the big sign that says "Non-Potable Water"! You can't use the sink to brush your teeth or get a drink! You have to go outside and fill the pitcher (provided in the room) from a different water faucet, which dribbles (I am not kidding that it takes 2 - 3 minutes to fill it). There is no phone or alarm clock. The room is old and needs maintenance done - water stains on vinyl floor and sheetrock around the shower. The beds are so hard that I am going to a Chiropractor (I am not kidding!). The gas heater is located in the wall with no way to turn it off or regulate the heat. We had to run the NOISY A/C to keep the room cool. It's cheaper than Furnace Creek. Not sure if furnace creek is any better.

We went to death valley in November and to see something that was not man made was breathtaking. From the hotel you could see across the valley and no matter how long you looked it just was not enough. Our room at the hotel was very clean and the hotel staff could not of been better.

I like the fact that it is there! Since it is the only available option in case you want to sleep inside this is the spot! it is clean, fresh, has a nice pool, food and a full bar. also there's a little gasstation across the street and a 3 minute walk to the sand dunes. of course, then you'll have to climb those. In short, it is a great place and really a cool place to visit in the middle of nowhere even if you're NOT a photographer! :)

I have stayed at this motel twice in winter, in the standard rooms. If you don't want a lot of frills, and want to be closer to the northern features of the park, this is the place. It's so perfectly quiet at night, you can almost hear the stars moving across the sky. Rooms are basic and cozy, with air conditioning and heat, but no TV. Who needs one anyway in this beautiful place? Taps have water for washing, but potable water is available through an outside spigot! I think that adds to the rustic charm!

a very unique experience. so glad that we braved the 120 degree temperature, the pool was a heaven send and the bar/restaurant was wonderful. rooms were clean and provided what we needed.
