Good price for location

Great location for a CITY hotel. The neighborhood is low scale, but the location with the BART/MUNI station just outside the door is a major plus. The Staff was great, very helpful and easy to deal with. Problem parking(sold out for our stay), but the overflow is a better price. Rooms are clean but small and forget about expansive bathrooms, but you can't expect more for a true city hotel. The place is quiet notwithstanding the street noise. The Starbucks in the lobby is also a great feature, but the restaurant is fair at best. A good experience and would go back.

Location - plusses and minuses

The location is both the best and worst aspect of the hotel. It is very convenient as it is above the Bart and Muni Civic Center station. But the neighborhood isn't the best and some visitor may feel unsafe at night. Also, there are few decent dining options nearby.

Paper thin walls

All in all this hotel was convenient to downtown shopping and whatnot, but the walls were so thin we could always hear slamming doors and talking. The front desk employees weren't that friendly either. The only really great thing about this hotel was the location next to BART.

close to theathers

I love staying here to go to plays and the symphony--they have an excellent dining room. It is one of the first hotels built after the '06 quake and it has a good feel and personailty.

I wont go back

The rooms were aweful! They were like little closets with piping going through them. Seems like they havent updated this place since they opened it. The people that worked there were rude rude rude!!!!! Even the location is a good few blocks from union square and in San Fran and few good blocks could kill ya! Dont bother with this place it isnt worth the money...its terrable!

Great Location

I loved stay here. We have stayed twice. The location is awesome. If you have the oppurtunity to get a room facing Market Street, Try it. It offers the best people watching. I would recommend the Hotel. We really enjoy the "old world" feel we get in the hotel. The history is very intriguing.

Hotel with Character

Rooms rather small and somewhat dark - old hotel that has been updated while maintaining old hotel character and a certain charm. No coffee pot in the room - Starbucks downstairs.

Very BAD

The hotel was smelly and the staff was rude. I expected an old hotel, but the rooms in this one have not been updated in at least 20 years. The lighting was so bad in the bathroom that you could not even get ready in there. Electrical plugs didn't work, airflow was bad (and the window barely opened), and the worst part...dirty, dirty, dirty. The cleaning staff should be retrained. I would NOT stay here again. For a few dollars more, there are much nicer places in the same area.

Never again!

Yuck! Yuck! Yuck!!! Don't let the pictures of the lobby fool you. The rooms are small, dated, smelly and not very clean. You have to walk through a sea of homeless to get anywhere. While the price is good, you'd be better off spending a bit more and staying closer to the pier area.

Great Bargain

This hotel was average, but great for the price. It was located in a perfect place for why I went to SF, walking distance to the BG civic center. There is a Starbucks coffee in the lobby, and the train station is right outside the hotel. I would stay there again for events at the civic center or Warfield Theatre.
