Central location, close to shops and dining
By Cindy M., 3/21/11
This hotel was not what I expected when I stepped inside, as it was so boutique-y and posh. I think this was a non-smoking hotel because I did not smell any smoke at all, and I am alergic to smoke. Check in was quick, considering I booked my hotel room last minute. My room was nearby the elevator but it was never noisy or loud. The room decor was certainly updated and the amenities were just enough to get me by. The self parking lot is a bit tight to park and the elevator was a bit slow, but I felt my car was safe there for a few days. There really was no need to drive as this hotel is in the middle of everything, tons of dining options. Sip, the bar and lounge was great for drinks and light appetizers. The concierge Stephen was great, as he helped me find a salon nearby to get my hair done (Salon 500). There is no gift shop in the lobby, only a small area with basic items. Next time I will try out the massage with Maureen McDonald.

fabulous business hotel
By RutheeG, 10/26/09
The Ms. Wheelchair California Pageant plans to host the 2011 Ms. Wheelchair America Pageant to be held in July, 2010 at this Renaissance and the event staff and the support staff are outstanding as are the facilities. Planning the huge event has been a snap. For business or pleasure, this hotel is fabulous. I would recommend this hotel to anyone planning an event, big or small for companies, corporations, and non profit organizations. The opportunity to stay in a hotel with such a supportive staff where the event is being held is priceless.

I do not recommend!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/27/09
Excluding the rude departure the hotel front desk gave me the hotel was clean and other staff helpful in giving direction and suggesting places to see and eat at. Everything was standard and for what it was it was a little pricey for what you got. I was staying with a friend who was there for a conference and upon check in gave her details and gave notice there were 2 of us staying. There was no request for details of the second person. On the 3rd day the concierge arranged my shuttle and when I went to the front desk to exchange enough currency for the shuttle, I was flatly refused assistance because I was not registered and even explaining my shuttle was waiting for me he still would not assist. After finding another guest that was happy to assit, he was told he could not exchange the money for me. I then missed my shuttle and had to catch 2 trains and a transfer bus which thankfully got me to LAX with luggage in tow.

Disappointed
By Debra, 8/25/08
I wasn't thrilled with the Renaissance and will not be back. I expected a room with a view of the ocean after paying to stay on the top 2 floors but was given a room with a view of buildings which made the room dark, seem smaller than it was (it really isn't big) and depressing. We went to the front desk and requested a change; at first we were told they didn't have a room with double beds with a view but the young lady saw we weren't satisfied so she found us a room. We did appreciate her efforts; we were able to see the ocean and the light made the room seem bigger. I have stayed at many hotels and I was disappointed with this one. The concierge and valet staff were pleasant but the rest of the staff needs customer service training; we didn't feel welcomed. There was no warmth or sincerity and no customer service. The in room food service is very limited and they don't make exceptions to the menu. The prices are crazy ($16 for a hamburger) The restaurant food was good but overpriced too... sweet chilli prawns were delicious but cost $35.00 and all we got was 7 prawns... you had to buy everything else separate. Breakfast came with our room... bacon but no sausage? Housekeeping didn't clean as well as they should (our bathroom floor wasn't swept) When we first came to our room there were peanut shells on the floor and when I asked the cleaning lady who was on the floor to please vacumn she told me to call housekeeping so I picked it up. They charge you for using the internet and to park! Suggestion: give fifteen minutes free for internet and for guest who stay overnight free parking. The best thing for us was the comfortable bed.

Great Hotel
By K, 8/24/08
I loved the hotel room. It was very nice. The food was 4-5 star but pretty pricey. Definately would stay again. The Valet and parking was a pain in the but. I got blocked in and the kid who did it was a punk. I had to get the manager so I could go park my rental. the manager moved the van for me and another three business men stuffed in their car. We waited a good 15 minutes before this was resolved. This kid gave me dirty looks, too. Needs new line of work. Again - everyone else was OK.

Pricey for what you get
By Traci, 5/11/08
This place was definitely overpriced and not all that exciting. Certainly not somewhere to spend your time if you're looking for the resort feel. The pool is below average, the fitness center is lacking and the carpet in main lobby is hard to look at. No balconies, expensive parking, and average staff. The food in the restaurant was fantastic.

Excellent hotel, very clean and highly recommended although the employees could smile and be a little friendlier. The rooms are clean and the beds are soft and extremely comfertable.

Outstanding
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/16/06
Clean, spacious, friendly, food great. Large rooms, desk, big bathrooms. Quiet, Across fro the beach and the convention center. The Hotel however was superb. The location was very good, not really far from the airport. Internet connection was not free and I think it should be. If you get the limo from the hotel to the airport make sure you ask what the price is. I was told $20 by the bellhop and when I was close to the airport the limo driver told me it was $45!. I told him what the hotel said and he said he would accept whatever I thought was fair!. I paid $20, no tip.

gOING AGAIN THIS SUMMER
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/27/05
I liked this hotel because it was comfortable, offered good service and has a good view of the sorrounding areas. This hotel has a lot of what people need from a pool to a work out room. Not to mention that the area is sorrounded by fun activities for everyone. I would go back another time if i had to choose from other hotels.

Was a very nice hotel.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/16/04
I travel with Great Danes, and appreciate staying at nice hotels. I realize that many 'dog people' before me have been pretty bad, not cleaned up after their dogs and given us a bad reputation. It was nice staying here.
