Wonderful Amenities
In reading these reviews (including mine), I recommend checking the date of when they were written. Many here complained about filth, need of remodeling, and so on. Well, I think maybe they have remodeled by now, because everything I saw looked wonderful and clean. I had a suite with a kitchen unit and it was extremely well stocked, with enough place settings and utensils for four, at least, and a good variety of pans, serving utensils, knives, and so on. There was a 12-cup coffee maker and both regular and decaf coffee packets for that size coffee maker. There was a toaster and microwave. The little refrigerator did not seem to have a freezer section, though, but that didn't really matter. Albertson's market was in the shopping center across the street, so it was easy to get whatever I needed. The kitchenette even had salt and pepper and dishwashing liquid and a dish drying pan. I was in a non-smoking room and at first when I was cooking some hamburgers I worried about making smoke, but the blower in the hood over the range was powerful and I needn't have worried. Everything was perfectly fresh and clean when I was through.
I was mostly there to do some writing and the desk was fine. As they offered free local calling (and I checked with the front desk to see if this would include internet usage, and it does), I plugged the phone line into my laptop and used a local Lompoc number that I had gotten from Earthlink before-hand. Very nice!
There were two televisions, one for the living room area and one for the bedroom area, and they had HBO for free and also several pay-per-view channels. The room also had an iron and an ironing board in it.
The weather was not warm enough for me to try the pool and the hot tub, but what they had looked nice. Also, they provide late afternoon snacks near by the pool (the "Hospitality Room") for $3.00 (free for some of the room plans), including wine, beer, popcorn, nachos, hot dogs, etc. for the $3.00 price. I checked it out, but didn't try it, because I am dieting (which is why I wanted the kitchen unit). However, for eating out there are several restaurants, coffee shops, and fast food places close nearby, some even within walking distance. Directly next door is a restaurant, but it was being remodelled at the time I was there. It's going to be an Asian Buffet when they finish.
Service was wonderful and everybody was completely helpful and personable. One of the maids had a great sense of humor and we shared a laugh over something that happened.
Lompoc, itself, was a perfect getaway--the town is small and friendly with good old-fashioned values. I enjoyed walking in their older section and looked at all the murals. Commercial flowers were blooming in the fields and the ocean was only about 20 minutes away.
Next time I need a quiet but productive getaway, I will go back to Lompoc and this hotel, for sure.
