Sleepless in San Francisco
By ,
While stay in SF for just one night and looking for a place close to Pacific Heights, I chose the Laurel Inn. After checking out reviews, I decided that this hotel fit the bill. Parking isn't free anymore for those also reading reviews. 15$. About the same as other hotels, but just to let you know. Front desk service was not overly accomodating. No luggage assistance. When getting to my room, realized I had front row! I am sure the loudest in the entire hotel. 2nd floor and a teeny window with no ventilation. No air conditioner. They do provide 2 fans in the room. Didn't help much, with the ventilation or the noise! The view was of the cross section of the 2 streets and 24 hour traffic noise that seemed like the room was in the street. Could also here alot of coming and going in the hall and next door. I read that this was a quiet hotel, reason for chosing!, but wound up with the bottom of the barrel. So don't stay if you are worried about your sleep. The lobby is quite small, so with the continental breakfast going on, a lot of people on top of each other, either with food or luggage or just trying to get in or out of the door. The bed was comfortable, as were the pillows and comforter. Had I been able to fall asleep, I may would have enjoyed the stay.

Okay Hotel
By ,
The staff was very nice and helpful. The continental breakfast was lacking...the bagels were hard, more fresh fruit or cereal would have been nice. Our major complaint was the noise. The walls are paper thin. We could hear the person in the next room dialing their cell phone. Normal conversation level talking could also be heard. You have to pay for parking in their lot and you are not within walking distance to very many things, so you end up paying for parking wherever you go too. If you don't mind hearing your neighbor's day (and night) activities, then stay here. Otherwise, I would look for somewhere else.

Great location and price for SF
By ,
As former SF residents, we wanted to stay in the heart of SF rather than in touristy Union Square. Laurel Inn is in a great neighborhood area. Friendly, clean. We had a toddler with us, so they gave us a larger end room. They offer a free light continental breakfast, but there is a very popular, delicious breakfast spot across the street. Walking distance to great boutiques.

A Great Neighborhood Experience
By ,
My husband and I recently spent a week here and thoroughly enjoyed it -- even though our room was on the "street" side it was not very noisy. The small kitchenette made it feel like a studio apartment; we loved the many throw pillows and bedding, as well as the toiletries. Especially thoughtful was the vase of flowers that awaited us because the staff learned it was our 25th anniversary. This small, quiet, but well-decorated boutique hotel provides a great way to learn about a non-tourist part of San Francisco. There were great restaurants and shops in the neighborhood, also. FREE PARKING was an added plus! Only downside was no wifi or easy internet access -- unusual in SF, I think.

I'll be returning next year.
By ,
For rates that are higher than economy chain hotels and lower than luxury chain hotels, you get a modestly up-scale hotel experience in a lovely city neighborhood (not noisy, lots to do, easy access to everything), with parking included (very important here), attractive & comfortable room, free continental breakfast. This place was just fine-- & for me had the added advantage of being within walking distance of my daughter's apartment. I was not crazy about the fact that pets, being welcome in this hotel, were encountered frequently in the elevator. Also, one morning the elevator was out of order, and it was necessary to use the stairs. For someone with a handicap, this could have been a serious problem, even if only for a few hours. There are no spa facilities (pool, hot tub) here, but there is a "Y" across that street that I was told I could use for $10 a day. I wouldn't have minded a pool and a gym in my hotel, but I'll still stay here again for my next visit.
