Dont try this at Shooters.....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/23/09
Really...Why are you guys in business for? Get more patrons or chase patrons away in these times ? The most unprofessional, pathetic staff I have ever met or seen in my entire life, here or abroad.Guys dont you get it every penny counts today. You chased me out of your establishment and you are getting a bad review which is what I am doing.Upper management your entire operation sucks from housekeeping to shooters. Now for your retarded bar so called shooters I can write a drama book about it as long as here to china and guess what still doesnt end.Your are so poorly staffed your bartender drinks and makes fun about it as it never happened.Your floor supervisor is so lost a blind person can find his way to the bathroom without a cane.I am in the business and I know about all the rules and ABC regulations and you are lucky I have NOT reported you yet to the proper authorties.Your staff is so out of sink you should be running a Mcdonalds not a multi star hotel or bar.SHAME SHAME SHAME how could you run such a hotel in La Jolla this way. Finally If you ever wanna get those patrons back or atleast have a common sense in this business think about making drastic chamges with your staff both in your hotel and especially your bar so called Shooters.

OK hotel, Humphrey's Restaurant Fanstastic
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/21/09
The hotel is OK, older, smaller rooms and would have got 3 stars if it wasn't for the 50% off Entree's coupon they give for Humphrey's Restaurant. Plus side is the hotel has a nice pillow top bed, refrig. and microwave in room. We usually stay at the Hilton Torrey Pines or The Lodge but the LPGA was going on so those were out. What saves this hotel is Humphrey's Restaurant, (located near Checkin). It is the best in La Jolla and as a guest they gave us 50% off entree's up to 4 people. We used the discount all 3 nights. Prices even without the discount are moderate (29 Filet Mignon, $28 Macadamia Halibut, Desserts were $3) Where do you get $3 desserts??? The Crab Martini Appetizer is superb, usually not a fan of curry (unless in Indian) but the chef put just the perfect amount to create a unique appetizer, could have ate 2 more. Everything was SUPERB especially the Filet Mignon, Macadamia Encrusted Halibut, Pork Loin, Taste of San Diego Shrimp. Even the salads had great home made dressings. We tried the Humphry's and Spinach, both excellent. Great service, Excellent food and best priced desserts in Southern California. Hotel certainly acceptable but Humphrey's is a unique dining experience. If you like George's at the Cove, you'll love this place.

Do not eat at the Humphrey's restuarant
By nettiepoo, 9/16/09
I had lunch there on Wednesday September 16, 2009. I placed an order to go and when I opened my food I saw a baby roach crawling on the sandwich purchased. The Food and Beverage manager provided an insincere apology but insisted they did not have roaches. I am embarrassed to even type this, but I felt it was important to post and communicate this incident. If you eat there, be very careful!

Rude front desk
By ToddJ, 6/27/09
Online, there were room rates for $125/night. I printed the page to check-in with. I was not allowed that rate at the counter. The best I could get was $179/night. I was told I could use their free wireless internet to book it online. This amenity functioned very poorly, cutting out constantly. I tried this for an hour at the hotel lounge. While at the lounge, the bartender was yelled at, and belittled by his manager. The reason is unknown, but the foul language used and the total unprofessional behavior was obviously uncalled for. It was an uncomfortable situation for all the patrons. After failing to properly book a room online, I used the business center and logged in using a co-workers room number. There I find that on-line rates are not available through their internet feed. I succumb to the rate quoted to me at the desk. I now go to check in and am told the rate is $220/night. This is from a rude Richard Phillips. I explain my whole ordeal about the online rate and the rate previously quoted to me at the counter. He doesn't accept this and maintains that room rates are $220/night. My frustration is increasing as I ask why they switch room rates around. Richard Phillips goes to get his manager, who tells him that the room rate is $179/night. I get my room, which is beautiful. The next day I find that my room key doesn't allow me access to leave the parking structure, and later, into my building or room. Being a frequent business traveler, I know not to expect too much, but this experience was by far memorable, to say the least.

Unknowledgeable and rude staff
By RB CA, 11/13/08
Service is subpar. Almost like they're trained to think "the customer is wrong until proven otherwise." The only thing in favor of this hotel is its location.

"Vacation" Inflation
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/3/08
We had an unexpected extended stay (not a vacation) due to problems with university housing and the rates continually went up. Pros: Clean room; nice staff (excepting one haughty desk clerk); safe feeling area; well lit; pretty garden with waterfall and fish pond, easy walk to restaurants and stores and UCSD Cons: Price hikes; much of the staff does not speak English, which is probably common for San Diego hotels; though the rooms were nonsmoking, ashtrays were present at the doorways to the halls, which encouraged smoking at the entrances and would pull the smoke into the hallway and into the rooms, a big problem for an asthmatic; really odd smelling cleaner or disinfectant spray

Would Stay Here Again!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/11/07
We arrived for a wedding weekend with about 30 family members. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were great. We had the rehearsal dinner catered by the hotel restaurant and a good time was had by all!

Don't stay here!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/6/07
The "Supervisors" are not really trained in customer service. We were scheduled to stay for 4 days but for some reason they kept checking us out each day and then we had to check back in each day because "the rates changed". They also charged us a $75 penalty for canceling on the same day but we didn't cancel on the same day but they refused to be reasonable and remove the extra charge. They actually said they did us a favor by not charging us for another day @ $250! Caution: The views from the rooms are terrible if you are assigned to a room on the parking lot side of the hotel. It is also very humid in the hallways and bathrooms as they are not air conditioned. This is not exactly a luxury hotel compared to the other hotels in the La Jolla area.

Perfect place to stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/31/07
We really enjoyed this hotel. The pool area had a tropical feel and was very pretty. The grounds were immaculately kept. The service was wonderful. We stayed in the newest building and the room was spacious and beautifully decorated. The bathroom was very large! It was a convenient location to La Jolla, San Diego and all of the major attractions. We were only an hour and fifteen minutes from Disneyland. Right across the street and up the road were restaurants and various stores. I wish we were there now!

Great location if you're visiting UC San Diego.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/19/06
Great location right across from UC San Diego campus. Easy access from the freeway. Room nicely decorated. Bathroom very small; there was a little notch cut into the door so it could open without hitting the toilet! Only one sink. Everything very clean and updated though. Very pleasant breakfast in the restaurant downstairs. Food good and service efficient. Parking easy and plentiful. Beautiful grounds. Internet connection very slow. They were doing an upgrade, but speed was a problem even before that.
