We had a satisfactory stay at California Suites Hotel. I had stayed with my folks. This hotel is not fashionable in any sense. Furniture was sort of outdated. But it didn't matter to us. We already had a low budget and it suited us. Rooms were set in lap of nature. Microwave and fridge in the kitchen were a plus point. We didn't like the continental breakfast. But the staff was co-operative and friendly. I needed an hot water bottle in the middle of the night. There was this lady in the staff, she came with the hot water bottle, with a smile on her face. Must say, staff was very hospitable which I didn't expect it to be. In fact rooms and services were better than we expected. There is lots of parking space. It is a good hotel for budget travelers.

My wife and I stayed at California Suites Hotel on our honeymoon trip. What impressed us the most was the cleanliness of the hotel. Hotel is not pricey but it meets the mark on cleanliness. Our room was good and well furnished. Bedsheets and pillows were clean. We got fresh towels daily. My wife especially loved the well-maintained lush courtyard which had meandering pathways. It was beautiful. My wife and I used to stroll through spacious lawns with pleasing flowers, plants and greenery all around. Swimming pool was large and hot tub was good. However we were not much satisfied with the breakfast. Coffee and the tea were the only items on breakfast list which I can say were good. The hotel is conveniently located, close to the freeway and some of the beaches. San Diego's key attractions were close by too. I think what made our stay at this hotel was the friendly nature and hospitality of the staff. They were really nice people.

We are a family of five people. Our budget was very limited so we stayed at California Suites Hotel. It didn't have any lavish amenities that some 5 star hotels provide. However it worked good for us. It is a very clean hotel with a large clean swimming pool. The staff at the hotel were some of the friendly and sweetest people I have met. Room was not spacious but the lush, green surroundings made up for it. We always woke up to beautiful plants, flowers and birds. However, continental breakfast is best avoided and bed was not very comfortable. Rather we used to go to restaurants which were in walking distance. Lots of attractions such as (Balboa Park, Old Town, Sea World) were nearby to the hotel. There was a bus stop nearby that made it easy for us to commute. If you are on a shoe-string budget, it is a good choice.

I was looking for a budget hotel for our family trip to San Diego. Somebody suggested me California suites hotel. We availed 2 night package. I must say it suited our budget well. Traffic noise bothered us but rooms were neat and clean. Food was okey. Its central location did save good amount of our money. Not bad especially if you are short of money. Value for money…

A beautiful garden filled with flowers and plants is what first greets you when you enter this hotel. So that's one sure good thing about this place, it made me feel close to nature. The other advantage about California Suites Hotel is its proximity to everything that's worth seeing in San Diego. Its convenient to commute to beaches and other attractions of the city. The hotel has a large swimming pool, which allowed us to have a nice, refreshing swim after a rather hectic day of sightseeing. The rooms are well furnished, rather unusual for budget hotels. The only gray area was the staff, slow and laid back. However, when you get such rock bottom room rates, you gotta overlook these minor hitches. Their continental breakfast was unusable! Be prepared to have your breakfast outside. 2 good points of the hotel - the discounts on room rates are fabulous and the pleasing green surroundings. If you are on a budget, you can have a look at it.

Nice and comfortable. A four night stay got us a decent discount on room rates. The swimming pool is warm and large. Breakfast menu was ordinary but more or less satisfactory. Must appreciate the staff for its help and assistance. The hotel is at a comfortable distance from the places you would love to see in San Diego but in terms of the location, its kinda lonely. Lovely flowers and plants around but the rooms are just too close together. So thumbs down for privacy. Overall would stay again on next visit. Will probably try their extended stay package.

My buddies and I had an amazing time in San Diego. I was there in the last week of December and almost first week of January. We had stayed at California Suites Hotel. Now there are some good things and bad things about this hotel. Good thing is that it is very economical. The hotel offered attractive discounts on room rates which suited our limited budget. Plus, my friend had booked the room 10 days in advance, so we got additional discounts. Cable showed HBO channel. Though we hardly watched much of television. Continental breakfast was ok. However our rooms were small, albeit clean. Internet service was slow. And the staff is a bit slow again, don't respond fast to queries. Well, if are looking for a really budget hotel and if you can ignore the non-responsive nature of the staff, I think this hotel will suit you. P.S.- the outdoor swimming pool was really good!

What is the most primary thing (or things) that you look for in a good hotel? For me, its the washroom and the Internet connection. The hotel where I was staying i.e. California Suites Hotel in San Diego disappointed me in this regard. The washroom was small and the shower installed there was too low for my good height. But I have to admit the hotel exceeded my expectations as far as cleanliness was concerned. I thought as a budget hotel, it must be some shaggy types. But it wasn't. Rooms and the washroom were of course small but they were clean. There were beautiful tropical plants and flowers surrounding the hotel. Don't expect too much from this hotel. Its a good value proposition as far as the rates are concerned. I don't think you can get lower rates than these. The rates more than make up for the other minor drawbacks. Go for it!

I have been to several places from India and Nepal to France and Italy. On my vacations, I have learned that it is important to stay in a hotel which is in the middle of the city. So on my recent vacation to San Diego, I chose to stay in California Suites Hotel since its location is perfect. The beaches are nearby and Old Town is hardly a few minutes away. My favorite Gaslamp Quarter is just a stone's throw away. So commuting is easy and transport is readily available around the hotel. Secondly, the hotel has a good swimming pool (this is a must for me anywhere I go). With a relaxing warm pool that has clean water, you can enjoy a good time. Can't say much about the room though, its basic and anyways, how much can you expect from such rock bottom rates. Anyway I have stayed in the worse hotels, so this hotel was OK, neither too good nor too bad. It is ideal for a group of friends who seek a budget San Diego vacation. I will give this hotel a thumbs up for its rates and location. But a thumbs down for the poor complimentary breakfast and slow services.
