Great potential...but missed the mark

The ambience of the courtyard, flowers, mexican tile and architecture were perfect for the wedding party to be together in a more private setting. Enjoyed reading a book in the shade of the plants by the fire pit. The location across from the beach and the Hotel Del and near shopping was perfect.
The room however, had great potential but was less than what I had hoped for. The lighting was horrible, not even a lamp to read by. Our unit backed up to the alley and delivery trucks parked with motors running three feet from our bedroom window. The bed was awful, the AC unit was terribly noisy, and the pillows flat. The bathrooms had interesting tile, but were only big enough for one person to turn around. The floor in the corners of the bathroom needed scrubbing. Toilet paper was Scotts, but must have been the economy quality. The window in the tub area had a shower curtain that needed some attention. It was nice to have a little kitchenette which was fairly clean except for the greasy stove. The rustic furniture was now more than rustic and a little sticky to the touch. The doors were dirty with fingerprints.
As for the service, we had a few problems with the staff allowing wedding guests to get into their rooms that were not in their name (even though we had spoken to them about this). We went one night without a blanket for the pull out couch, but they provided one the following day upon request. Check out went well!
So, new lighting, a good cleaning and a few nice touches (maybe a vase with one real flower) could make this place a great one, but until then, we will be staying away for the $300+ that we paid.
