Quaint but filthy and noisy -more of a party spot
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/20/10
We stayed at El Cordova for 4 days - location was great, but room was filthy. Kitchen cabinets full of dead cockroaches. We ended up buying supplies and cleaing it up ourselves. Fun place with BBQ's for guests to use, and restaurants onsite, but each night they dumped all the beer bottles in the trash outside our room, so each night my family was woken to the sound of breaking glass. All night long, others would come and sort through the trash to go recycle the bottles, again making sure we had no sleep. Big sign in lobby offers a 10% discount if you post a positive review before checking in - so be skeptical of any positive reviews!!!!

Charming Hotel...very friendly staff!
By Ginaquel, 10/29/08
Overall the El Cordova is a nice charming hotel, for a romantic getaway (not really for business…no facilities to conduct business i.e. business office for guest use). I would most certainly use again. I had problems with my web reservation and the manager was more than willing to accommodate the mistake. The staff was always super friendly and helpful. I was in a one bedroom suite with one queen bed with a huge walk in closet, the bathroom was quite small, however the bedroom was a comfortable size as was the separate living area. The room did have an air conditioner, the kitchenette had a small fridge, microwave, gas stove (which is why no curtains at the kitchen window) and cooking utensils. Very close to shops, restaurants, etc. about 2 blocks from the beach and about 2 miles from the ferry, wonderful location! Would recommend renting a bike or taking a taxi to get around town instead of renting a car!

WHAT A DUMP..NOT 3 STARS!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/5/07
After traveling 9 hours from Napa, we arrived at the subject Hotel. What a dump! The Room #33 which we were shown was unacceptable; it is not a three star category hotel. The room was 90 degrees plus inside; AC operation was not functional. The place looked very dated, smelled, was unclean and the stairs/access up to the room was difficult for my wife to negotiate; stair/treads not per CBC code standard. No parking at the Hotel was available. Parking is per the Coronado Plaza Parking Garage across a very busy intersection, two city blocks away. We advised the hotel concierge that the room was unacceptable, upon which he replied that's too bad, the room has already been paid for. We left the Hotel after that verbal exchange .

Great potential...but missed the mark
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/23/07
The ambience of the courtyard, flowers, mexican tile and architecture were perfect for the wedding party to be together in a more private setting. Enjoyed reading a book in the shade of the plants by the fire pit. The location across from the beach and the Hotel Del and near shopping was perfect. The room however, had great potential but was less than what I had hoped for. The lighting was horrible, not even a lamp to read by. Our unit backed up to the alley and delivery trucks parked with motors running three feet from our bedroom window. The bed was awful, the AC unit was terribly noisy, and the pillows flat. The bathrooms had interesting tile, but were only big enough for one person to turn around. The floor in the corners of the bathroom needed scrubbing. Toilet paper was Scotts, but must have been the economy quality. The window in the tub area had a shower curtain that needed some attention. It was nice to have a little kitchenette which was fairly clean except for the greasy stove. The rustic furniture was now more than rustic and a little sticky to the touch. The doors were dirty with fingerprints. As for the service, we had a few problems with the staff allowing wedding guests to get into their rooms that were not in their name (even though we had spoken to them about this). We went one night without a blanket for the pull out couch, but they provided one the following day upon request. Check out went well! So, new lighting, a good cleaning and a few nice touches (maybe a vase with one real flower) could make this place a great one, but until then, we will be staying away for the $300+ that we paid.

Manager's Suite
By Harry'sWife, 9/14/06
I have stayed at the El Cordova hotel serveral times and though a little pricey for what you get, I still go back. Normally I stay in the junior suite which works out fine for me. Last time I was able to stay in the manager's suite which was HUGE, SUPER CLEAN, and had everything you needed for a GREAT visit to Coronado. However, though I made sure with the front desk to give me a wake-up call for an early flight out, they never called me and I just about missed my flight.

My favorite Coronado Hotel
By Bill, 5/19/06
Ambiance! The El Cordova is full of wonderful ambiance. From the tile work in the rooms to the music wafting from the courtyard this hotel exudes Mexican charm. Their gardens, like most in the area, are stunning. The restaurant in the courtyard is great. I especially enjoy a cup of coffee while looking out on the courtyard or even onto Orange Avenue. The only downside to this property is the smallish pool but with the Pacific ocean just across the street who needs a pool? I'll be returning for my honeymoon.

Nice Place, Poor Service
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/22/06
Front desk staff and manager indifferent at best. Bad enough to detract from the wonderful location. We won't return and don't recommend. In fact we checked out early and went to another hotel nearby. The rooms are clean but somewhat cramped for the price. The location is great but there are also plenty of other hotels nearby.

STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/2/06
The AAA review is misleading and incorrect. There is no continental breakfast, or on-site parking, or early check-in or late check-out. I am stunned that AAA gave this hotel a 3 diamond rating. I believe that this hotel owes the guests stars. You have to carry your luggage up a flight of stairs to a room that is dark, dingy, has a musty odor, and desperately needs more lighting. Heating & cooling would be nice. The room needed painting, and a bathroom where more than one person can squeeze into. Perhaps a shower that can be used at night would be nice because of inadequate lighting in the bathroom. The only good quality of this hotel was that the bed was comfortable.

By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/17/05
This was a quaint hotel, but quite honestly, I would never stay there again. Not worth the money!!! In need of updates really bad. About the only good thing was the location. All in all, the best description is - OLD. CRUSTY & smelling kind of MUSTY.
