Don't believe the negative reviews
By ,
I think this is a fabulous hotel. I stay once a week. It is lovely. The rooms are huge and very nice and clean. I love the guest lounge. They serve a continental breakfast that is very nice. They provide two free water bottles in the room and coffee and tea you can make yourself. I know friends of mine have stayed here also and are repeat customers every year.

Great Location
By ,
I love that's it's right on the beach. Our family goes for the Thanksgiving weekend and it's the best time we have all year! The sound of the ocean is great to hear at night! And our daughter loves to watch the dolphins early in the morning! Sunsets are the best!! We always stay in the "new" building behind the pool - it has an elevator and the rooms are a little newer! We've gone back over the years and we will continue to do so!

Dont Stay Here
By ,
The only good thing about this hotel is that its located on the beach. However the service that was provided was horrible!!! The worst staff I have ever came across, I do NOT reccommed this hotel, there are plenty others.

PERFECT!
By ,
I searched and searched for the best place to stay for my Anniversary and I found it here at Beach Terrace Inn!!!!! I was alittle put off by the high price but I did go during the most expensive season-so that's on me. Everyone was so nice and the room was perfect! I highly, highly, highly recommend this place.

NOT WHAT I PAID FOR
By ,
We arrived early and though we could not check in I was not allowed to use the bathroom (construction) and sent to a construction portable across the street. It was locked so then I was told to go 2 blocks around the corner to a park! After a day at the beach which had no waves and no bathrooms (not Inns fault) we checked in, I was not given the room with a panoramic view of the ocean with a balcony, I was given a room facing the pool on pool level (this I can look at at home)I specifically called and asked for this room. To get to the room I was given in the construction, I had to carry all my bags and children across Inn grounds to the back, down 2 flights of stairs and up 1/2 flight and across pool area. The gal at the lobby desk seemed to think I was insane (but was polite) for being upset, but at 200.00 a night, I want what I paid for so I took a refund and came home. The whole deal was wrong and though clean the room wasn't worth it.

i'm looking forward to our next visit!
By ,
I liked especially the big rooms with view to the ocean. The hotel is suited directly to the beach and the breakfast is also great!

Soul Soothing!
By ,
Service was great! We purchased bottle of wine - and realized we'd forgotten to get a corkscrew. The front desk clerk made a special effort to ensure we got one within half an hour. The layout of the room was exceptional! Late night TV watchers can stay up and watch TV without fear of disturbing their partner. The kitchen was great - but be sure to bring your own utensils, pots/pans, etc., because other than some coffee cups and small water glasses, there are none! Location was great - easy to get to. A caution for out-of-town visitors - make sure you get through San Diego and surrounding areas BEFORE the commute hours. A 15 minute drive from the 805 split to Carlsbad took us over an hour in evening traffic. The only (minor) issue we had was that there is no AC in the living room/kitchen area. Even with the door open, the humidity made the room seem a little stuffy. The bedroom, however, was nicely cooled. The fireplace was wonderful! You might want to bring a night-light for the bathroom - as the fan comes on when the light does, or else you have to turn on the heat lamp - WAY too much light in the middle of the night! Nice couch and overstuffed chair in the room made for very comfortable seating. We had a room with a king bed - which was VERY soft - you may not care for it if you prefer your mattress firm. Can't say enough good things about this place - it was a soul-soothing vacation. The dolphins put on a show swimming along the shore every morning, and the pelicans skimming the waves was awesome! The sound of the waves crashing against the shore was great music to sleep by, and there are great little shops and restaurants in Carlsbad and nearby smaller towns. We also ordered in one night from the menu in the room (for a nearby pizza place) - the delivery was quick and the food was served hot! The beach was great - although - the sand is more compact (making for easier walking) in the evening than in the morning. A word of caution - there is no elevator - and there are a LOT of stairs to climb...down to the beach, and up again to street level. We didn't use the pool or hot tub (although we noticed several people who did) so we can't comment on those. Overall - we thought this place was wonderful - and plan to go back again and again!

We Will Return!!
By ,
Want a room with a balcony looking out at the ocean and Right on the sandy beach? This is what I loved about this location and the convenience of walking on the beach. It has a nice pool and spa also facing the beach front. If you travel with a laptop internet is free in the room also. It was very reasonably priced for a beach front room booking online at Yahootravel.com midweek rates.

Great location, service needs some work
By ,
We chose this hotel because it was located on the beach, which is great. It has a kitchenette, which is a big plus with two small children. Overall we were generally happy with our stay. However, while speaking with the front desk regarding the hair dryer not working, the phone cut out and died. Fortunately, the bedroom phone still worked and they sent a repair guy a few minutes later who fixed both the hair dryer and replaced the phone. We had to ask for them to replenish our shampoo and the maid service neglected to dispose of the breakfast service tray. There is an in-room safe, however, the instructions are incomplete and while it is easy to operate, it neglects to indicate that one must first turn it ON! You have to call the front desk to find out how to do this. Also, if an ocean view is a must, be sure to specify that. Many rooms overlook their beach-front building that provide only a side glimpse of the ocean and a view of the horizon. Mostly your view is the back of a building. On the plus side, we had requested two double beds and got a king, as that was all that was available, but it was very comfortable. They provided a nice quantity of decent pillows and had two televisions....another bonus with small children. There was a small fridge and microwave which we were grateful to have and we could walk down to the beach directly from the hotel, which was wonderful. We would choose to stay here again. Our children loved the beach and we really need a hotel with a kitchenette - just don't expect great service!
